another thing that game left me feeling is that tristan thompson has an obvious identifiable upper echelon skill in offensive rebounding and when a team is playing relatively half assed like the dubs did in game 3 it can really feel like it's altering the game. but in a game like tonight where a (good) small lineup is really busting its ass they can get enough of boards (on either end) between effort and the way the ball bounces to more or less neutralize that advantage.

xxxp yeah it just doesn't seem like he can affect a 48-min game through offensive rbs even though it seems disastrous when he gets a couple in a row

half of their guys are unplayable on one end of the floor.

yea it is super frustrating

it's too bad that game sputtered out at the end cuz for the first 3.5 quarters it was maybe the best game i've seen this season game 6 WCF included

also as magical as it can be to see kyrie make these impossible layups after dancing to the rim, when he starts running failed attempts play after play in crunch time it gets super annoying

yeah all of a sudden the clock turns to midnight and he's a pumpkin again

he really is one of the most insanely skilled one on one offensive players in a long time tho

Dubs D in the second half was incredible

Now that the dubs are up 3-1 and the Finals are effectively over, I wish someone would explain to me why letting both teams physically maul each other, by grabbing, bumping, and grappling one another is presumed to be a better, fairer or more exciting brand of basketball than the usual brand, where defenders are required to move their feet or make clean shot-blocks, and offensive players are required to set stationary picks, not commit traveling. How would enforcing the accepted rules of basketball make the NBA Finals less of a test of the players and coaches?

This irks me deeply about every NBA finals I've ever watched. I want to see skills, not muggings. I want to see "amazing", not mud-wrestling. imo, changing the officiating standards during the playoffs sucks balls. It always has and it always will.

it was called super tight in the first half and then in the second half they let them play didn't they

The players in the old rough and tumble nba smoked, drank and were in a lot worse physical shape than the modern nba players. both the warriors and the cavs would be like gods in the NBA of 1975. but they'd both have to hire one brawler to be the designated brute who knocks out teeth when the opposing team plays dirty. it was how you protected your stars.

you can be intense and not hack, set moving picks or travel.

Yeah they just flat out weren't calling anything but at least it wasn't one sided

i mean, u can expect things will get sloppy in the finals from nerves. so u can either call it tight and slow the pace down and make it much more halfcourt, or u let em play and occasionally see dudes get scrote-punched

so, the argument seems to be that refs swallowing their whistles makes for more exciting hoops because the pace is faster when nobody shoots free throws, regardless of the infractions on the court. maybe for the average fan, sure, I can see that. I still don't like it. it's like, I know what hoops is when played right and this game where infractions happen but not consequences is not quite real hoops to me.
