their problem right now isn't depth... they have more players than they can play (i.e. channing frye). it's that the players aren't good enough.

w/o love you start getting into an entire alternate history but basically i don't think andrew wiggins was worth keeping for the cavs. maybe kevin love wasn't the right fish to lure in but nobody knew that at the time.

unlikely they cldve got anyone better, maybe a combo of quality roles players cldve worked out tho who knows

im much more interested in attempts to decode how good kevin love actually is. it's fascinating!

he's clearly amazingly talented as an offensive player but i wonder if he peaked in those two seasons in minny

ya agree re the mysteries of love, seems unlikely hell ever recapture his minny peak but its also v obvious that hes not being given the opportunity to succeed in cleve, feel like he cld still put up big numbers in the right situation but his defensive limitations and positional inflexibility are still problematic

not hard to imagine him regaining 95% of his MIN form in the right situation

yeah the only reason im skeptical is just cause those numbers were so nuts in the first place

i've come to think that love is one of the least versatile players on the planet, like if you give him run to do the 4-5 things he's really good at he'll get numbers but he's so hopeless at everything other than those 4-5 things and i don't think he's really interested in getting better at them.

i was going thru teams trying to find one that fit the love criteria and theres not much out there since a lot of the 5s he might pair well with are on the FA or trade market

maybe denver but they're a year or 2 too early to be making big moves

celtics w amir johnson, great perimeter D, the assets to trade makes a lot of sense

kevin love = nick young

ive been on board w/ love to celtics for a while i think if there's any coach that can set up a narrow player to succeed its brad

nick young is only good at like 1 thing tho

im on record as declaring love to celtics destiny so theres no point in fighting it

love is prob worth the #3 straight up given the scuttlebutt re: many players below 1 and 2 in this draft, he's def not worth #3 plus actual players imo

maybe some second rounders too if only so ainge doesn't have to draft-and-stash five separate euroballers due to roster crowding issues

the only problem w the deal is it wld need a third team involved cause i dont think cleve is interested in draft picks

with love the cavs bought high and will be reluctant to sell low. the celtics would be buying low on love, so it makes great sense to buy in, if love gets offered. but this is verging on offseason stuff, not finals.

he's worth the #3 in this draft i think. i don't think he was worth the #3 in last year's draft (in a world where the third pick was porzingis instead of okafor)

the other thing w/ love is that maybe his health will never be where it once was even tho he can still look like the same player. sorta like what happened to dwight howard but on a much more protracted timeline.

love to the celtics straight up for #3 would be interesting if the cavs could flip #3 to a team that really liked a player there and also had a good nba vet to spare but idk what team that would be....

apropos of nothing, the weirdest prop bet i would place right now were it available would be steph hosting an snl episode next season

love was traded for the #1 pick in what was supposed to be the draft of the decade PLUS some other stuff just 2 years ago. i don't think the perception of his value has regressed so much that he's now worth the #3 pick in what is (afaict) considered to be a draft with 2 players of superstar potential
