Bron wants the banana boat

dubs supporting cast is so good that they can severely punish any team that tires to shut down steph & klay. this has been demonstrated all season. okc got closer than anyone has to matching the dubs, but they didn't overweight their defense like the cavs have

a little too mature to be cute (Aimless), Monday, 6 June 2016 18:56 (ten years ago)

yeah still kinda mystifying that cavs went from going up 2-1 via clampdown defense + lebron train to like, dubs scrimmage chum

, Monday, 6 June 2016 18:58 (ten years ago)

lack of blatt defensive schemes?

lol i mean its prob just the dubs having jumped lightyears ahead but i certainly dont think tyronn lue is helping

if young slothrop don't trust ya i'm gon' rhyme ya (slothroprhymes), Monday, 6 June 2016 19:02 (ten years ago)

the cavs should be playing the same strategy as the blazers which was basically to run up and down w/ the warriors and bomb as many threes as them. it's prob suicidal but at least introduces variance and the cavs can really shoot it. right now they're playing this bizarre mix of the warriors pace but w/o shooting threes w/ them it makes no sense.

J0rdan S., Monday, 6 June 2016 19:04 (ten years ago)

feel like its not so much a match up issue as its the dubs r just much better

otm, this is a 65-70 win team vs a 55-60 win team the difference is fairly large

ciderpress, Monday, 6 June 2016 19:04 (ten years ago)

also let's not forget that for whatever style the cavs were playing last year the dubs basically had that 2-2.5 game choke-y hiccup moment under the bright lights that was not going to happen this year

J0rdan S., Monday, 6 June 2016 19:05 (ten years ago)

it's really bizarre to see the team that was breaking 3 point playoff records in the 2nd round shoot so terribly. and no the hawks defense does not explain the difference.

Heez, Monday, 6 June 2016 19:07 (ten years ago)

though the hawks offense might explain it.

Heez, Monday, 6 June 2016 19:08 (ten years ago)

yeah the warriors were kinda shook for the first few games to start last year. Think they thought it would come easy but they've learned and now are better. cavs are playing like they haven't realized whats going on yet, still asleep at the wheel from the rest of the offs. Not at one point in this series have I felt like the Cavs have figured anything out. Even when they took the lead early or got back within striking distance it wasn't really cos of anything they were doing, its just either the warriors turning it over or missing open shots.

Spottie, Monday, 6 June 2016 19:09 (ten years ago)

blazers are v young with young legs and they can run all day long. they have a lot of odd pieces coming off the bench with particular talents that stotts can use to make strategic adjustments. the blazers also have stotts, not lue, so there's that, too.

a little too mature to be cute (Aimless), Monday, 6 June 2016 19:09 (ten years ago)

steph didnt play in the blazers series hello!

lag∞n, Monday, 6 June 2016 19:11 (ten years ago)

yeah the dubs got their game choke moments over early with the thunder

, Monday, 6 June 2016 19:12 (ten years ago)

steph didn't play

except to score 17 points in overtime!

a little too mature to be cute (Aimless), Monday, 6 June 2016 19:14 (ten years ago)

i find it really sad that richard jefferson is getting regular minutes in the 2016 playoffs.

Spottie, Monday, 6 June 2016 19:21 (ten years ago)

basically the only genuine steph moment in the whole series xp

lag∞n, Monday, 6 June 2016 19:27 (ten years ago)

by the eye test he seems to be playing really well! xp

k3vin k., Monday, 6 June 2016 19:28 (ten years ago)

i know he is doing fine Ive just not been a fan of him since he was on the warriors

Spottie, Monday, 6 June 2016 19:29 (ten years ago)

thats a diff series man!!!

lag∞n, Monday, 6 June 2016 19:30 (ten years ago)

oh i read that as "whole playoffs"

Spottie, Monday, 6 June 2016 19:31 (ten years ago)

Remember when Chris Paul and Blake Griffin got hurt at the Dubs didn't have to play them lol

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Monday, 6 June 2016 19:38 (ten years ago)

that was a weird night

Spottie, Monday, 6 June 2016 19:39 (ten years ago)

so does anyone wanna revise their prediction to a sweep? i still think this goes to 6; they split the next two games in cleveland, lebron scores some ridic numbers in game 5 and the warriors demolish them in game 6. i guess if love is really injured maybe 5?

De La Soul is no Major Lazer (ulysses), Monday, 6 June 2016 19:46 (ten years ago)

i think cavs get game 3 and thats it. same as I thought b4 the series started

Spottie, Monday, 6 June 2016 19:46 (ten years ago)

i predicted the sweep and i am holding fast

ciderpress, Monday, 6 June 2016 19:49 (ten years ago)

i am revising my prediction to a sweep

marcos, Monday, 6 June 2016 19:51 (ten years ago)

There is no glimmer of anything that is working for the cavs right now

marcos, Monday, 6 June 2016 19:52 (ten years ago)

this type of thing is really fascinating to me
http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=15633764
seems like a p sweet gig

Spottie, Monday, 6 June 2016 20:02 (ten years ago)

xp well, yes. shumpert and JR are all but invisible, thompson isn't proving more than more than just being a big body, Love looks like a defensive liability, kyrie can't find his game... but lebron is still lebron and my inclination is to give them one more game than I would otherwise by virtue of his muscle and will.
by which i don't mean to suggest that i LIKE lebron; i've kept the last games of both prior year finals just because it's fun to watch sad lebron.
i also wouldn't write off the cavs willingness to get much more physical, like desperation let's-take-this-guy-out physical, as long as the refs aren't calling contact fouls near the basket. right before they pulled steph in the fourth quarter (and kerr left him in longer than I'd prefer), there were two back-to-back take down fouls on him that did not bode well.

De La Soul is no Major Lazer (ulysses), Monday, 6 June 2016 20:02 (ten years ago)

i predicted dubs in three. silver is going to step in after game 3 to stop the pain

, Monday, 6 June 2016 20:04 (ten years ago)

feel like the cavs cld win game 3 just cause the dubs dont seem to be trying very hard and if the the bounces arent going their was theyll just be all whatever

lag∞n, Monday, 6 June 2016 20:05 (ten years ago)

cavs best chance would involve basketball adopting football rules and having different units on offense and defense.

call all destroyer, Monday, 6 June 2016 20:06 (ten years ago)

yeah if curry is on the court at the same time as james jones and dahhntay jones then Kerr should be fired immediately xps

Spottie, Monday, 6 June 2016 20:07 (ten years ago)

I said dubs in 5 but am leaning towards a sweep. shame that the raps turned up and the option of cavs sweeping the east and getting swept eludes us.

Clay, Monday, 6 June 2016 20:34 (ten years ago)

ya that wldve been tite af

lag∞n, Monday, 6 June 2016 20:35 (ten years ago)

i don't see how this isn't over in 5. honestly wonder if the warriors might let the cavs win one so they can celebrate at home.

J0rdan S., Monday, 6 June 2016 20:48 (ten years ago)

That would be kind.

6 god none the richer (m bison), Monday, 6 June 2016 20:49 (ten years ago)

I think everyone would be happier if dubs finished this at home

marcos, Monday, 6 June 2016 20:51 (ten years ago)

draymond sitting in a darkened corner, sharpening the spike on the toe of his brand new HyperRevs, looking into the camera pitilessly, saying "i think everyone would be happier if dubs finished this at home... don't you?"

De La Soul is no Major Lazer (ulysses), Monday, 6 June 2016 20:55 (ten years ago)

in the background, you can faintly hear falsetto chants of "jones barbecue and foot massage, jones barbecue and foot massage"

De La Soul is no Major Lazer (ulysses), Monday, 6 June 2016 20:56 (ten years ago)

dubs equipment manager seems like a really cool guy

De La Soul is no Major Lazer (ulysses), Monday, 6 June 2016 21:11 (ten years ago)

Doesn't seem like a sweet gig to me, it looks really hard!

happy 15 year anniversary, coach lue

Clay, Monday, 6 June 2016 22:00 (ten years ago)

post-game interview with lue was not good, I felt bad for him

lowe on klay http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/16007209/there-fuels-klay-thompson-more-losing-people-underestimating-skills

Even bullish executives didn't see this coming in 2011 -- a perceived lack of respect that still rankles Thompson. He came across as quiet, disinterested, lacking a hunger to broaden both his game and his life horizons. During his rookie season, the Warriors assigned him a book report on "Play Their Hearts Out," George Dohrmann's outstanding peek inside West Coast AAU basketball -- an attempt to coax Thompson out of his comfort zone, and "expand his mind beyond basketball," Lacob said.

Draft experts wondered if he was too slow to defend at a high level. "I'd read reports, and they'd say, 'His defense needs work, he's not quick, he can't stay in front of anybody,'" Thompson said. "And I'd be like, 'Are these guys even watching me play?'"

The intel on Thompson was so jumbled, the Spurs needed two private workouts before deciding to attempt trading up to get him. After one workout, Chip Engelland, the Spurs' shooting guru, told the front office something that made their hair stand on end, officials remember: Thompson's competitive nature reminded him of Manu Ginobili.

"There's something deep in there," Engelland recalled. "He has that chip. When you see it, you know it."

Thompson says heated competition with his athlete brothers, Mychel and Trayce, made losing at anything -- basketball, pingpong, whatever -- a searing, unpalatable personal failure. And he has always been a worker. Lacob once asked Thompson what he did for fun. Thompson simply responded, "I like to shoot." Lacob explained that he meant what Thompson did off the floor. Thompson shrugged and repeated himself: "I like to shoot."

k3vin k., Tuesday, 7 June 2016 15:04 (ten years ago)

the "i like to shoot" anecdote is priceless
