Bill Simmons Reacts to Celtics Picking 3rd
― ciderpress, Wednesday, 18 May 2016 05:00 (ten years ago)
im thankful for #content
they had some kinda Ringer Watches the Lottery periscope feed that i watched for about 3 minutes out of curiosity and it was extremely awkward, mostly bc it was like 6 writers on a couch, and to fit them all in the frame they had to set the camera far away, which meant they all had to yell, and periscope aligns vertically so it was this tiny horizontal couch of yelling writers amidst a vast blank space of wall and carpet.

Before lottery, Warriors PR czar Raymond Ridder texted Luke Walton that Lakers got 4th pick. Luke fell for the prank, now has last laugh.
— Bill Oram (@billoram) May 18, 2016
the last laugh being that he will now be the coach of a v bad team, hilarious
― Clay, Wednesday, 18 May 2016 05:22 (ten years ago)
Upside tho
― Spottie, Wednesday, 18 May 2016 05:23 (ten years ago)
if i'm philly i'm just taking ingram, simmons is on a mission to break the record for most predraft bad vibes.
― call all destroyer, Wednesday, 18 May 2016 12:20 (ten years ago)
Wouldn't he also a better fit personnel wise?
― (•̪●) (carne asada), Wednesday, 18 May 2016 12:23 (ten years ago)
so many bad vibes with simmons. he's not a scorer, his jump shot mechanics are broken, and he's a whiny baby. even the australian national team doesnt like him.
― micah, Wednesday, 18 May 2016 13:26 (ten years ago)
bilas was comparing simmons and ingram on the lotto show--simmons got the edge in "passing" and "rebounding" and ingram got it in "shooting" and "defense." i was like when you put it like that...
― call all destroyer, Wednesday, 18 May 2016 13:27 (ten years ago)
celtics should keep the pick imo
― ciderpress, Wednesday, 18 May 2016 13:51 (ten years ago)
hard to say, who knows what trades are possible
― call all destroyer, Wednesday, 18 May 2016 13:56 (ten years ago)
both of the best remaining lottery pick dudes are guards though. too. many. guards. oh and i guess there's the euroballer dragon dude, which...aight sure
Andrei Kirilenko is a solid comp for Bender
hnnnnnnggggghhhhhhhhh

im a fan of taking a chance on the dragon
― ciderpress, Wednesday, 18 May 2016 14:04 (ten years ago)
i think the celts need to hope someone falls in love w/ dragan & wants him at 3 cuz otherwise i don't think a team is coming in hard to take jamal murray or buddy heild at 3
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 18 May 2016 14:08 (ten years ago)
kirilenko wasn't a 7 footer iirc
― ciderpress, Wednesday, 18 May 2016 14:08 (ten years ago)
murray would be a good fit for the celts i think but he feels like a guy who would go 4-5 picks later in a better draft
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 18 May 2016 14:11 (ten years ago)
he's just a pure shooter type?
― ciderpress, Wednesday, 18 May 2016 14:12 (ten years ago)
yeah he's a good shooter but big too like he could develop a post game. he might have trouble on defense cuz he isn't quick but the c's have good perimeter defenders already.
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 18 May 2016 14:13 (ten years ago)
ok sure im down with that
― ciderpress, Wednesday, 18 May 2016 14:29 (ten years ago)
buzz about d'antoni to houston today. that's surely the thing to turn their struggling defense around
― geometry-stabilized craft (art), Wednesday, 18 May 2016 15:06 (ten years ago)
not official, don't let me misrepresent, but he's had a couple of interviews is "an increasingly serious candidate" according to espn
― geometry-stabilized craft (art), Wednesday, 18 May 2016 15:08 (ten years ago)
now this is going to be fun

ya he doesnt seem to be going out of his way to endear himself wonder if hell slip
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 18 May 2016 15:12 (ten years ago)
seems like the prevailing opinion is still that you can't pass on what could be a lebron-esque player but def a lot of naysayers coming out of the woodwork suddenly
― ciderpress, Wednesday, 18 May 2016 15:24 (ten years ago)
the whole not being able to shoot at all thing has got to be troubling
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 18 May 2016 15:26 (ten years ago)
"Opponents were able to neutralize him very effectively in the half-court as the season moved on, simply backing five feet off him. Simmons would respond by getting very passive in turn, looking very conscious about firing up jumpers, even late in games when his team desperately needed him to be aggressive. "
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 18 May 2016 15:30 (ten years ago)
2. Simmons’ box scores have grown increasingly hollow. One NBA executive described him as a “taller Rajon Rondo, a more athletic Evan Turner, or a skinnier Royce White.”
ow!
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 18 May 2016 15:35 (ten years ago)
sounds like he has a similar skillset to giannis tbh
― ciderpress, Wednesday, 18 May 2016 15:36 (ten years ago)
giannis is a freak tho
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 18 May 2016 15:38 (ten years ago)
yeah
― ciderpress, Wednesday, 18 May 2016 15:41 (ten years ago)
Id probably go with the dragon at 3, feel like a sweet shooting big euro dirk/zinger type would be huge for the c's. And if Kirilenko is a realistic comp that's good too- young Kirilenko was just a monster box score filler, that stretch when he and matrix were #1 fantasy picks because they would have like a steal a block and a couple threes every game now feels like a precursor to the ideal modern 4 man
― gis for westbrook shark jump (agent hibachi), Wednesday, 18 May 2016 16:36 (ten years ago)
Or trade it to someone who thinks they see something in any player beyond Ingram/Simmons...last time ainge had a decent pick to work with he turned a fifth pick and some garbage into Ray Allen (and big baby ha)
― gis for westbrook shark jump (agent hibachi), Wednesday, 18 May 2016 16:38 (ten years ago)
idk seems like simmons has a pretty low floor to me even if shooting never really quite gets there. he demonstrated his court vision & passing ability at LSU and will prob be able to finish at the rim and if he can guard both wings and bigs there's a draymond-esque skillset there.
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 18 May 2016 16:39 (ten years ago)
if he can defend and shoot at dray green levels then he will be good i agree lol
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 18 May 2016 16:41 (ten years ago)
i feel like he really screwed up by going to LSU which i guess some people would say is a red flag but he was a young kid going to college in a diff country it's not crazy that he would pick a place where he could be close to a family member
i would still take ingram tho he's a year younger and i'd just rather take a shot on that offensive upside
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 18 May 2016 16:42 (ten years ago)
also wingspan is the new vertical
― Spottie, Wednesday, 18 May 2016 16:43 (ten years ago)
simmons has short arms throw him in the garbage
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 18 May 2016 16:44 (ten years ago)
yup
― Spottie, Wednesday, 18 May 2016 16:45 (ten years ago)
ingram has no torso, all legs n arms. nice shoulders tho, i bet he can bulk up pretty quick
― lag∞n, Wednesday, May 18, 2016 12:41 PM (27 seconds ago) Bookmark
i'm not saying he would be as good as draymond just that he could contribute in the same way that draymond does. having a big who can move and pass like that is pretty helpful.
i guess the worst case scenario is that he's essentially ricky rubio on the offensive end but can guard wings and bigs in small ball lineups which would be a disappointment but still a useful player!
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 18 May 2016 16:46 (ten years ago)
he's gonna be a playmaker so even if his shot never develops you're at least getting a player better than michael kidd gilcrhrist or whoever. like at absolute worst he's josh mcroberts or something, which again would kinda suck for a #1 overall pick but at least could really help you in certain situations.
but still ingram looks like he could be a perennial 25 ppg scorer so you know
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 18 May 2016 16:48 (ten years ago)

last time ainge had a decent pick he took marcus smart!
― ciderpress, Wednesday, 18 May 2016 16:49 (ten years ago)
is marcus smart good y/n? no one can answer that question still it seems
― Spottie, Wednesday, 18 May 2016 16:50 (ten years ago)
simmons prob has the tools to be an elite defender its just kinda difficult to project when everyones questioning his desire to do so
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 18 May 2016 16:50 (ten years ago)
yeah. idk ultimately he's 19 i'd still assume he's going to care enough at some point in the next like 5 years.
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 18 May 2016 16:51 (ten years ago)
some guys do some guys dont, its his shooting that really gives me pause tho, like hes afraid to even shoot, he takes most of his shots around the basket with his off hand, i dont think u can come from that level to be even a decent shooter, thats pathological
