scoring on a 1-4 fastbreak is more valuable than consistently hitting open threes because open threes tend to get rare come the offs
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 11 May 2016 16:21 (ten years ago)
yes if there is anything late game russell westbrook has taught us over the past 5 years it's that he can be counted on to make the right decision in 1 on 4 situations
― k3vin k., Wednesday, 11 May 2016 16:24 (ten years ago)
well luckily most of the game isnt the late game
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 11 May 2016 16:25 (ten years ago)
westbrook played better than kawhi last night ergo is better than kawhi
― k3vin k., Wednesday, 11 May 2016 16:26 (ten years ago)
i mean obvs russ is very flawed but hes also consistently taking one of the alltime great Ds out of their comfort zone, its not unrelated that okc are a great offensive rebounding team
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 11 May 2016 16:26 (ten years ago)
kawhi is great but hes a lil bit overrated due to the nba efficiency fallacy
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 11 May 2016 16:28 (ten years ago)
if he really is the 2nd best player in the league spurs shd be winning this easily
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 11 May 2016 16:29 (ten years ago)
i do think we can rebury the notion that kawhi has passed or caught up to KD
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 11 May 2016 16:32 (ten years ago)
the thing about westbrook is that he has distinct flaws that can be very harmful to his team but like the way he played last year when KD was out was superhuman transcendent
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 11 May 2016 16:33 (ten years ago)
naw kawhi is a top 10 player and maybe top 5 but not top 2. he's also the youngest player in the top 10 though....
― ciderpress, Wednesday, 11 May 2016 16:33 (ten years ago)
kawhi is amazing but not top 2
― marcos, Wednesday, 11 May 2016 16:34 (ten years ago)
in a more structured system aka "when durant is healthy and okc must play like a normal basketball team" he's much more problematic and perhaps less useful than "we need you to put up 35/10/10 every game" & so i could see how one might prefer kawhi but i'm not sure that necessarily makes kwahi... "better"
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 11 May 2016 16:34 (ten years ago)
was Duncan good earlier this season, I can't remember. for the rare athlete who can stay productive past 32-33 yrs old, when it finally goes (always by 39 or 40) it goes like *overnight*

some crazy stats
The Cavs shot better from the 3-point line in the series (51 percent) than on shots from 3 feet and closer (48 percent). Love, Frye and J.R. Smith all had games in the Hawks series in which they made at least six 3s. It's the first time in history a team has had three players do that in a series. The Cavs are the first team in history to make at least 15 3-pointers in four straight games, regular season or playoffs. Not even the groundbreaking Warriors have done anything like that. In the four-game series, the Cavs made 77 3-pointers. The most they'd made in any four-game stretch this season was 61. The most the Warriors made in a four-game stretch was 68. The Cavs hit 77 3-pointers and 81 2-pointers in the series. No team is history has made more 3s than 2s in a series, but before this the closest was 25 more 2s than 3s. Six Cavs shot 48 percent or better from 3-point range (James settled for 42 percent) and seven players made at least four.

truly nuts
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 11 May 2016 16:47 (ten years ago)
duncan was still one of the best defensive bigs this season, he's not good on offense anymore though
― ciderpress, Wednesday, 11 May 2016 17:05 (ten years ago)
Bad timing for both he and David west to show their ages
― Spottie, Wednesday, 11 May 2016 17:08 (ten years ago)
what happened to the david west top of the key 2? lol
― 龜, Wednesday, 11 May 2016 17:11 (ten years ago)
okc is the hardest team to defende
― ciderpress, Wednesday, 11 May 2016 17:12 (ten years ago)
Yeah usually automatic but if he's not making it then he's not really bringing much else to the table
― Spottie, Wednesday, 11 May 2016 17:13 (ten years ago)
west currently some unholy marriage of cooked and shooked
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 11 May 2016 17:14 (ten years ago)
i like how defense is so enigmatic that the only way these advanced stats can get at it is calculating the player's overall impact on the game and then subtracting their offense
― ciderpress, Wednesday, 11 May 2016 17:16 (ten years ago)
the dark secret of basketball is that its actually impossible to completely untangle a player from their team/scheme statically or otherwise, those nu defensive metrics are only at the outer edge of unreliability
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 11 May 2016 17:21 (ten years ago)
which is p cool imo i like stats being useful but not definative
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 11 May 2016 17:22 (ten years ago)
i mean like obvs duncan was not actually one of the best defensive players in the league this year, but was he put in a position to succeed, def
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 11 May 2016 17:23 (ten years ago)
the regressed plus/minus stats actually have more predictive power than i expected, i'd like to look at just instances of consecutive years where a player switched teams though and see how much that goes down
― ciderpress, Wednesday, 11 May 2016 17:30 (ten years ago)
i proposed in one of these threads that all players shd be forced to switch teams every year in order to make stats better
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 11 May 2016 17:31 (ten years ago)
we'd also find out which coaches are actually good im in favor of this
― ciderpress, Wednesday, 11 May 2016 17:32 (ten years ago)
it shd be a law def, all players randomly assigned teams at the beginning of each season
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 11 May 2016 17:33 (ten years ago)
Realistically, tonight will be the last game of the blazers' season, but I am hoping they can string it out long enough for one more game in Portland. All that would be required is good active defense, some hot shooting from Aminu & Crabbe to relieve pressure on Lillard and McCollum, and some better than average offensive rebounding. I give them a 15% chance of a win, but hey, it's a chance!

I can't put my finger on why and kd was better last night but right from the outset I really felt like Westbrook was just *in control* of that game, in some kind of quasi mystical bullshit first take sense, right from the first few possessions
― gis for westbrook shark jump (agent hibachi), Thursday, 12 May 2016 01:00 (ten years ago)
Kawhi tried to wrestle it away and made some astonishing plays but lma didn't really step it up, maybe gassed from scoring so much the first couple games
― gis for westbrook shark jump (agent hibachi), Thursday, 12 May 2016 01:01 (ten years ago)
Shaq is just staring straight ahead as chuck and Kenny talk about Dwight being on last night

i love how nobody cares about this series at all
― Clay, Thursday, 12 May 2016 01:55 (ten years ago)
man i've seen too many injuries caused by a defender trying to draw a charge while a player is up in the air. the restricted area arc should be extended out by like 3' imo
― micah, Thursday, 12 May 2016 01:57 (ten years ago)
yeah demarre looks real hurt :/

yet somehow every raptors set still ends in a long 2
