durant might help him get it yeah
― Spottie, Tuesday, 26 April 2016 17:57 (ten years ago)
what did dwane casey do this year exactly?
― call all destroyer, Tuesday, 26 April 2016 17:59 (ten years ago)
There's an apocryphal story that before the battle of Salamis the eleven Greek commanders cast votes for who'd be the overall commander in charge. When the ballots were counted all the commanders had voted themselves the top spot, but all the second place votes went to Themistocles. Congratulations, Mr. Stotts.

the raptors had a very good year and aside from lowry it's not like that roster is overwhelmingly talented
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 26 April 2016 18:06 (ten years ago)
id have voted for pop
― nomar, Tuesday, 26 April 2016 18:06 (ten years ago)
i would have voted for stotts
prob also would have voted for guys like joeger, bud & spo who had to radically alter their teams and/or style of play like halfway thru the season
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 26 April 2016 18:08 (ten years ago)
spoelstra did an amazing job

pretty good roster imo besides the glaring weak spot at PF
― Spottie, Tuesday, 26 April 2016 18:17 (ten years ago)
they went into the season with a shot to be the second-best team in the east. def met expectations but seems like a weird placement.
― call all destroyer, Tuesday, 26 April 2016 18:30 (ten years ago)
billy donovan got a vote, lol
― k3vin k., Tuesday, 26 April 2016 18:35 (ten years ago)
yeah aside from lowry i think the raptors are a collection of pretty nice players, and one of them (carroll) was out for most of the year. i coulnd't point to exactly what casey has done there (and frankly i think they'll prob end up finding someone else to push them up another level) but i don't think there was anything preordained about them winning 56 games and challenging for the 1 seed.
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 26 April 2016 19:04 (ten years ago)
yeah feels like they more or less met expectations whereas portland and to a lesser extent charlotte and boston exceeded them if you're gonna vote for someone with a second tier team
― ciderpress, Tuesday, 26 April 2016 19:07 (ten years ago)
i mean i personally in my fake nba ballot would not have voted for dwayne casey but i don't begrudge him getting votes in the actual ballot
i do agree w/ you about those midtier coaches
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 26 April 2016 19:08 (ten years ago)
there should be a special coaching award for the playoffs since so many of them get exposed
i honestly feel like pop deserves it every year. he had that team humming so quickly where I thought it would take at LEAST half the season to figure ut.
― Spottie, Tuesday, 26 April 2016 19:09 (ten years ago)
popovich gets all the respect he deserves and if COY came down to a lifetime achievement award he'd sweep the voting every year, but it's fair to allow other coaches a decent shot at recognition, too
― a little too mature to be cute (Aimless), Tuesday, 26 April 2016 19:20 (ten years ago)
dammit durant is going to the spurs next year isn't he
― ciderpress, Tuesday, 26 April 2016 19:21 (ten years ago)
this season the way pop took them to a 67-15 record was just mind blowing to me. it's not that they're not clearly talented and the second best in the west (maybe best, now), but that team didn't seem like a 67 win team going into this year.
― nomar, Tuesday, 26 April 2016 19:26 (ten years ago)
yeah, maybe a 61 win team, but no one picked them to win 67
― a little too mature to be cute (Aimless), Tuesday, 26 April 2016 19:28 (ten years ago)
60 wins is already so many
― ciderpress, Tuesday, 26 April 2016 19:28 (ten years ago)
and that was while still giving his main guys nights off
― Spottie, Tuesday, 26 April 2016 19:29 (ten years ago)
Pops made a Guarneri sound like a Stradivarius.
― a little too mature to be cute (Aimless), Tuesday, 26 April 2016 19:31 (ten years ago)
coaching that team to a title two years ago was more impressive imho i mean pops just the #1 everyone knows
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 26 April 2016 20:21 (ten years ago)
its funny no one even noticed it was a superstar bereft squad
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 26 April 2016 20:22 (ten years ago)
saw a discussion on tv abt how that pistons team was the last no superstar champs lol
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 26 April 2016 20:24 (ten years ago)
aldridge and kawhi are both better than anyone who was on the team two years ago
easily

― (•̪●) (carne asada), Tuesday, 26 April 2016 21:11 (ten years ago)
had that same thought spottie. buncha castoffs who shouldn't be here in the first place and now all the pressure in the world is on them to make it to the second round.
― Clay, Tuesday, 26 April 2016 21:12 (ten years ago)
sorry to ilhers kev and goon.
sad that we will be robbed of a healthy all time western 2nd round of okc/sas lac/gsw
― Spottie, Tuesday, 26 April 2016 21:16 (ten years ago)
yea it is such a bummer
― marcos, Tuesday, 26 April 2016 21:18 (ten years ago)

Don't you mean third round
― reggae mike love (polyphonic), Tuesday, 26 April 2016 21:19 (ten years ago)
dubs minus steph still have about 3x the talent portland does
― Clay, Tuesday, 26 April 2016 21:23 (ten years ago)
yeah warriors will still be favored in that series
― Spottie, Tuesday, 26 April 2016 21:29 (ten years ago)
cp officially out "indefinitely" jeez
― Clay, Tuesday, 26 April 2016 21:30 (ten years ago)
538 can be kind of annoying but fwiw http://fivethirtyeight.com/features/how-injuries-to-steph-curry-and-chris-paul-affect-the-playoffs/
― marcos, Tuesday, 26 April 2016 21:31 (ten years ago)
(written prior to the blake announcement but that doesn't change anything)
on the bright side this could mean we still end up with warriors v spurs w/ both at 100% knock on wood
― Clay, Tuesday, 26 April 2016 21:32 (ten years ago)
warriors OKC would be just as good, maybe even better if you love scoring > defense
hard to say curry is gonna be 100% at all these playoffs. Still a chance he doesnt play at all really.
― Spottie, Tuesday, 26 April 2016 21:34 (ten years ago)
wow i didn't realize that all the remaining east series are tied up at 2-2
― marcos, Tuesday, 26 April 2016 21:37 (ten years ago)
