i have something to say about the offs THE 2016 NBA PLAYOFFS

it's not enough to cheer me up but i listened to haralabob with simmons today and enjoyed the following tidbits:

1) homecourt advantage has decreased from an avg of 4 points to 2 points since adam silver became commissioner
2) bob has identified, but will not reveal, one adjustment teams could make against the warriors, and thinks the spurs could definitely make this unnamed adjustment

kevin martin looking hella comfortable out there on that second unit. he struggled to acclimate when he first got here, looked a little out of place, but he came to PLAY

i really had no idea kevin martin was on the spurs

his worthlessness on d is very un-spur-like

It's only 1.5 games of basketball but this series is really a convincing argument that the c's need to add a go-to scorer taller than 4'10

i watched the second half and dumbly thought "here's where the comeback is, here it is, it happened in the other two games..." aaaaaand nope just straight trash

apparently avery might come back early, but at this rate don't think it'll help much

thanks for the heads up on that haralabob simmons podcast, i enjoy listening to that guy he comes across as one of the smartest ppl 'in' basketball

thibodeauberwolves is real - 5 yrs, 10 Ms, coach and president powers

that team is gonna be extremely legit quick i think

they prob got the best guy on the market but not sure i love it tbh, giving a coach personnel power is dicey + thibs maybe not the best for a young team

they will prob have +15 wins next year tho

think it will work out but he really needs to develop young talent and get a good offensive coordinator

thibs first year in chicago he had second year rose and third year noah and won 62 games (+21)

thibs def a winner, look at that bulls team now tho

yeah thats good news - they're like 2 years away from being a playoff team with a competent coach and could maybe even slip into the bottom seeds next year if the aging out teams like dallas and memphis fall off

wld be better suited to a team ready to contend, also his short sightedness re player health isnt encouraging when it comes to personnel decisions

i wonder if a year off has mellowed his views in that regard. provided he doesn't have massive selective ignorance he's gotta know on some level his drag-ass practices/player usage habits easily may have led to critical injuries in a season (14-15) where the bulls otherwise could've been conference finalists based on talent/ceiling

...totally possible he /does/ still have that ignorance and hasn't mellowed at all though.

hes def a great defensive coach but his offense was a lil sus

too bad he cldnt goto the clips

no doc is perfect for the clippers

iirc the twolves starters were one of the highest scoring lineups of the season, theyve already got that part down. just need a good 6th/7th man & better defense

& a leader with a gravelly voice

xp watching them it seemed like they got more competent as the season ground on. kat is just going to get better, i think playing lavine at the 2 (if this has been accepted) will let him fit the role he's best at but requires healthy rubio/some other 1 obtained somewhere, the big spot imo is wiggins and consistency.

he's garbage from 3 (on a very low sample size) and his defense is spotty. some of this is probably effort/getting up for 82 games/second yr/a lot of development yet to come but i think for the team to take the next step he has to be more present and ready because when he's dialed in he can affect games significantly

imo just ignore the other thread and use this one for all ball discussion until the offs are over

thibs is a great defensive coach and the timber puppies have some incredible defensive pieces that either already are (rubio) or should within a year or two be the best or among the best defenders at their positions (towns and wiggins). feel good about this hire

it's crazy that that team wasn't better defensively given all that talent but that just goes to show you 1) how important scheme is and 2) how useless young dudes usually are on D

wolves could have done much worse than thibs. they were bound to rise anyway with KAT and the maturation of Rubio. but hard not to agree that thibs needs a damn good offensive assistant and better management of player minutes.

every year when people were like "the bulls are east sleepers!" i never thought they had enough offense to ever get past a good team but in the one year but in the rose mvp year they were a ~top 10 offense. i think thibs can get out of his own way on that end.

i think he's smart enough to realize this won't be bulls 2.0, personnel-wise they're about as different as two teams can be.

im not convinced the young wolves should pay 50 mil for fat frank vogel
