i've been listening to a lot of pods at the gym so i'm amped for this

maybe this should go on grantland thread but jalen and jacoby are getting a daily espn radio show

i can't say i've ever listened, any good?

it's an enjoyable enough podcast. i don't know how it'll work on radio, there's a half assed aspect to the pod that i can't imagine they'll replicate on radio.

Jalen and Jacoby are pretty good especially when they dig into jalens stories or have fun news to break down. The off the dome aspect is actually kind of fun usually but they can get a little aimless occasionally and I'm a little tired of jalens catchphrases but maybe a daily structure will inject some extra life. Would definitely listen to them on radio over most other boring ass sports host doods

Also the story of Jalen jacking Patrick Ewing's TV is all-time

lowe will be fine, i hope he goes w/ simmons cuz i like his podcast, like him providing contrast w/ simmons, and most importantly like him not hidden behind insider (i have insider, it's just the principle of the thing). i see lowe's grantland stuff pop up w/ the normal espn stuff in the feed or whatever in the nba section which i don't think i do w/ the other sports writing at grantland. barnwell would leave as soon as simmons called, i'd hope mays would go w/ him cuz i enjoy that podcast and mays goes a long way in making barnwell tolerable on the pod. apparently whatever site he's setting up will still cover pop culture which idk, morris was the only dude there i really thought was very good (as opposed to adequate, like what you'd find at vulture or something) and he's gone to the times. simmons seems like a great boss but if i was a sports writer i could see debating whether you'd want to potentially burn a bridge w/ espn, which probably is the pinnacle for yr profession. whereas w/ lambert or pappademas or whoever on the pop cult side there's no incentive to stay, espn will probably slowly shut grantland down over the course of the next year or year and a half so either you take a job elsewhere now or later.

yeah as long as lowe keeps doing his podcasts i'm happy, though i do love his pods with simmons

if anything happens to grantland all the sports people will just be folded into main espn, it's the pop culture people who might get boxed out

maybe it is more complicated getting the headliner sports dudes because of espn but based on the ppl i have seen so far you could believe they're doing something pop culture focus, no/fringe sports

so weird, just a couple of weeks ago they said it was doing better than ever

gonna reckon they killed it out of spite due to last month's mass exodus (like 6 people left at once, iirc) and then a handful of others filed out in the following weeks. apparently those who were will there will be paid for their remaining contracts

idk, i think the rumors that ESPN might have real revenue problems on the horizon are true

yeah i just think it may be symptomatic, they've been doing a lot of penny pinching in various places. i think it's part of why they've let a lot of big name talent split and then filled holes w/ ppl already on payroll.
