i remember lebron giving an interview a few years back about how he doesn't really have any rivals and PP is his rival by default. i thought there was mutual respect tho, idk i'll listen to the podcast tomorrow on the plane unlike SOME PPL ITT who are so above podcasts

memphis is a really smart bball club, i do appreciate the way they play

the pierce/lebron story windhorst told is this

the feud started in 2004 in a preseason game at the mohegan sun that took place on the first night of the 2004 sox world series (nb i haven't factchecked this story). apparently the teams got into it a lil bit and lebron was going harder than he should in a preseason game. at one point windhorst said he picked pierce's pocket and went down the court and dunked it and then came back and kinda grilled pierce (if he has the dates right lebron would've been 20, pierce 27). so the teams kind of had this beef and then had to play another preseason game a few days later at a college arena in ohio (maybe ohio state or cincinnati). the game was real chippy agaom (something specific might have happened here but i forget). after the game since it was a college arena the two locker rooms were adjacent to each other and windhorst said pierce tried to storm into the cavs locker to fight lebron and had to be carried back into the celtics locker room by a bunch of people. and i guess that's where it began but, windhorst says, nobody remembers especially in boston because it was happening right as the sox were winning the world series.

then he told a few other stories. he said at some point in lebron's first cleveland run maverick carter's dad was sitting courtside one night and started going at it with pierce. so pierce puts up like 44 points while talking trash to maverick carter's dad the entire game. he also mentioned the time bron and pierce kind of spilled into the crowd and bron's mom ran down the steps and like berated pierce, and then when they got up bron cursed his mom out (i think this is a famous bron moment).

simmons talked about how in game 5 of the 2012 east finals -- the game in miami where pierce hit that dagger three right in lebron's grill -- pierce and kg were talking the most personal trash to bron that anyone had ever heard or something. he then said (idk if this is him editorializing or passing on real celtics gossip) that pierce and kg really thought they had "broken" lebron that game and were gonna snuff out the run in miami. then the next game is where bron dropped 30 in the first half at the garden with that possessed terminator look on his face the entire time.
