monty doesn't seem that bad to me. he doesn't add anything but i'm not sure he's actively bad. the hornets have been pretty competitive in this series despite pretty inferior talent. their big problem is that basically every player except AD is overpaid.

tho obv if thibs or someone wanted that job i'd dump monty in a heartbeat

there has to be a dude on the spurs bench who would love to have the chance to work with davis. i mean look at golden state and atlanta now

sure. that's true for a lot of teams.

i don't really want to take up defending monty but i do think he seems better than like, you know, hiring lawrence frank or alvin gentry for the 300th time or something.

maybe that's faint praise. i guess my real point is that just that i'm not watching that series like "well the problem is the pelicans coach"

he's probably in the bottom row of the league's 30 coaches this year - like #20 or #21 - but the way some folks memeify his ineptitude they make it sound like he's some all-time idiot, which is def untrue. NOLA's front office staff are considerably worse at their jobs than monty is at his

the real problem is that they have a once in a lifetime talent on their team and they need to be maximizing his chances for success right now

and a lot of that is due to owner demands

basically new orleans needs their equivalents of the andrew bogut acquisition (looked dicey) some more draft luck/skill and the mjax->kerr upgrade

these are all hard things to pull off obv and monty williams doesnt seem too too bad other than an insistence on not really maximizing his use of the brow

literally anyone who can implement a spurs-style offense. they have the brow and shooters. this doesn't need to be rocket science

need willing players, maybe all players are willing under the right circumstances idk

def requires a high level of unselfishness/heads up play

i mean if you could just snap your fingers and implement a "spurs-style offense" the spurs would not be the spurs

gordon and ryan anderson are both very good shooters, plus QP. midlevel shooter types are going to want to play with davis

i don't see how it's on the coach to implement a spurs-style offense when his front office trades two first round picks for jrue holiday, a first round pick for omer asik and gives tyreke evans $45 million

A Spurs style offense has the ball changing hands a lot, he'd probably see more of it and in more advantageous situations.

no one on the spurs averages more than 13 shots per game. anthony davis shot 17 times per game this season.

a spurs style offense in which anthony davis shoots more than he already does is not a spurs style offense

feel like w the spurs theyre focused on getting good shots but not getting any particular player a high volume of good shots that wld be something at least a lil different

Have to imagine a Spurs offense with a bonafide go-to guy (which Kawhi isn't quite yet) would function differently.

His FGA are only likely to go up at this point

dont think kawhi will ever be a goto guy hes a much more in the flow of the game type which makes him perfect for the spurs

A go-to scorer can operate within the flow of an offense if he's dominant or creates enough panic in defenses that good ball movement results in easy opportunities for him.

Kawhi might never be a gunner but he'll lead them in scoring and there will be more pressure on him to take on that role as the big 3 diminish.

this is a funny conversation as it applies to the pelicans specifically because it's not like the spurs were some dead end franchise that all of a sudden rocketed to the top of the league because they devised this new style of offense.

they won multiple championships when they ran their offense through a historically talented big man
