in all seriousness i think the cavs starting five in the past few months is a bit stronger than the heat's last year although if wade's knees had not been about to inevitably collapse at that time, that might not be true, both the heat's bench last year and the cavs bench this year have some issues to say the least

there seems to be some time dysmorphia in that analysis

i spose the cavs starting 5 has the issue of kevin love's misuse/potential yips/back pain to deal with

also cavs team this year has much less playoffs exp than last yrs heat and spoelstra was/is a better coach than blatt

chalmers singlehandedly won the heat a game in the finals vs okc

the heat last year were a well oiled machine showing signs of running on fumes, the cavs won a bunch of regular season games on talent alone, anyone here think their weaknesses cant be exploited by a well prepared team, think that a team thats not even sure whos in charge its coach or its best player is going to make the right adjustments, that kyrie facing playoff defenses for the first time isnt gonna revert back to a lot of his bad habits

i mean obvs they have a shot at the finals cause the east is so weak theres only one other good teams but they cld easily be a first round out in the west

this cavs team seems pretty equal to last year's heat to me in that i could definitely see them breezing thru the east before getting carved up by the spurs in 5 games

usual caveats apply but imo if they face the hawks it will prob a good series

shd also be noted the general consensus at this time last year was that the heat were much stronger than they ended up being

i do think all of those things are true to a certain extent about the cavs and i dont think they have the east finals locked up bc they will face the hawks or maybe bulls and those are crazy tough outs.

i also think they were true about the 2013-14 heat minus the coaching issue bc spo was/is great, but then again in those playoffs they faced the bobcats, nets and an imploding pacers team that still took two games from them!

i don't think there's really any precedent for a team with the cavs' defensive rating winning it all. even since everything clicked for them they've been only slightly above average on defense whereas history indicates you need to be at least pretty close to elite.

cavs need another year in the oven at a slightly different temperature

its true they didnt face anyone of consequence but they also breezed through the east, that pacers series was abt as lopsided as a 6 game series can be, pacers also had recovered quite a bit by that point fwiw

yeah feel like ive heard stats ppl saying being in the top third of the league is the absolute minimum historically, and its not like the cavs are alltime great offensively

curious to see how brons old man game hold up in the offs, cld get ugly if he tries/needs to force it

like anecdotally, once you start thinking about them individually ... kyrie, jr, love are all minus defenders. bron has slipped on that end if even by choice. mozgov is p good but he's not tyson chandler. i just don't see how they're gonna outscore equally prolific offensive teams like golden state or the spurs, assuming cleveland gets there.

they cld be v subject to hawks slicing and dicing too :)
