im curious if matt armstrong even thinks tim duncan is a power forward or he was just super psyched to point out that duncan often tho not nearly always played with guys who were roughly his size

lag∞n, Thursday, 12 March 2015 05:10 (eleven years ago)

his size is C btw

I believe he is a player who has played the majority of his career at power forward and to argue that this somehow doesn't mean he's a power forward is...... Pedantic!?!?!?

Matt Armstrong, Thursday, 12 March 2015 05:24 (eleven years ago)

i dont think its true that hes played the majority of his career at pf especially when u consider defense, i think it would be more accurate to say he often played in unusually large line ups where it was unclear who was the center then the rest of the time he played center

lag∞n, Thursday, 12 March 2015 05:26 (eleven years ago)

also he is center sized and his game fits the mold generally associated with an nba center

lag∞n, Thursday, 12 March 2015 05:27 (eleven years ago)

anyway matt i wld like to apologize for any and all personal comments i made itt, that was uncalled for and i didnt really mean it i just let my frustration get the best of me which is sad lame

lag∞n, Thursday, 12 March 2015 05:31 (eleven years ago)

When I think of Tiago, Rasho, d rob, Nazr I do not think of them guarding PFs more than duncan did. Maybe Tiago because he's fairly versatile. I mean who guarded KG all those years?

It's cool man

Matt Armstrong, Thursday, 12 March 2015 05:35 (eleven years ago)

cool

lag∞n, Thursday, 12 March 2015 05:36 (eleven years ago)

i dont recall who guarded kg but just speculating usually spurs usually had a smaller line up they cld use to account for someone like him, duncan chasing kg around the perimeter is not exactly ideal, not saying he didnt do it but if he did he wld be... playing out of position

lag∞n, Thursday, 12 March 2015 05:39 (eleven years ago)

I'm willing to listen to the argument that he's a center who played out of position, but people don't acknowledge the can of worms this opens. Bird was only a 3 because Auerbach got Mchale and Parish, magic only a 1 because of imaginative coaching etc.

Matt Armstrong, Thursday, 12 March 2015 05:43 (eleven years ago)

Magic also played some center iirc

polyphonic, Thursday, 12 March 2015 05:53 (eleven years ago)

Andre Drummond had 22 and 27 with 17 OREB

duncan obvs had some positional flexibility as do many players, which is and undervalued skill imo, but even when he was "playing power forward" he still played like a center, and had the body of one, and the disposition, the hair line, is a center

lag∞n, Thursday, 12 March 2015 14:58 (eleven years ago)

bird wldve been a pretty unconventional pf for his day fwiw w all his shooting distributing and ball handling skills

noel is good at d http://grantland.com/the-triangle/nerlens-noel-the-other-rookie-of-the-year

lag∞n, Thursday, 12 March 2015 15:57 (eleven years ago)

big question i see w him is he has the body of a pf hes really quite slight but his best offensive role is prob as an exclusively roll man like tyson chandler which is more of a center thing, hes def a game changer on D either way tho

lag∞n, Thursday, 12 March 2015 15:59 (eleven years ago)

maybe it doesnt matter but its just hard to imagine him handling say marc gasol one on one

lag∞n, Thursday, 12 March 2015 16:00 (eleven years ago)
