i have a lasting memory of watching a playoff game in the early aughts where marv was just back from his time off from that sexual assault charge and doing the game with Bill Walton and they had been snippy with each other all game until Walton said something about how a player charged with a foul "just took a big bite out of him, really let him have it" and then there was basically no play-by-play and no commentary through the free throws, pretty clearly the mics were intentionally shut off. And about thirty or forty seconds later, they started talking again but bill and marv didn't really respond to one another for the rest of the game. i'm pretty sure they didn't share the booth again after that year. I sometimes try to imagine what the conversation was when the mics were off.

it was like 2001 or something so very pre-internet meme-ing/dissection of everything hoop related; probably went entirely unnoticed and unmentioned by the media at the time. I'm trying to imagine what Marv's return to prominence would've been like in a twitter age. I can't imagine they would even let him back on the air.
