yeah def relegation is the best, relegation in all things imo
― lag∞n, Saturday, 12 April 2014 19:22 (twelve years ago)
i have progressed to outright revolutionary re foul shooting #hoopidea, imo eliminate foul shots altogether, if its a shooting foul or the penalty just give em the points
― lag∞n, Saturday, 12 April 2014 19:31 (twelve years ago)
i like my idea of no high 5s and also stepping into the paint is an automatic technical foul
― surfbort memes get played out, totally (k3vin k.), Saturday, 12 April 2014 19:49 (twelve years ago)
nah def don't expand, we have enough shitty teams

the regular season would suck with a strict home and home based schedule imo
― le goon (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 12 April 2014 22:17 (twelve years ago)
i mean the playoffs would get there sooner but i would feel robbed this season if the heat and pacers or clippers and warriors only played twice
also the playoffs are not objectively fair in their current state or whatever but i think there is something to be said for the sort of year over year rivalry building you get with the heat and pacers, or heat and celtics. or the spurs and suns year back, or the knicks and pacers or pacers and bulls.
all of those mini-three year(ish) rivalries -- something that is unique to the NBA and insanely memorable -- would not happen in a system where teams go 1-32 or there are no conferences. or they would be way less likely.
― le goon (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 12 April 2014 22:21 (twelve years ago)
anyway the west playoffs are gonna be awesome from the jump and the east will be really nice after round 1
a few of the west teams are gonna get screwed but i'm pretty alright with where things stand
― le goon (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 12 April 2014 22:23 (twelve years ago)
jordan not down for the revolution smh
― lag∞n, Saturday, 12 April 2014 22:49 (twelve years ago)
what's the most 50 win teams in a season b/c this year has to compete. spurs, okc, clips, indy, miami, hoston, portland already there, with warriors a win shy, dallas two short. chicago, phoenix, and memphis could get there if they win out but phx and memphis play each other so they can't both get to 50. that's still 7 fifty win teams and likely 9 or 10. that's a third of the league!
― it's a trilby (Clay), Saturday, 12 April 2014 22:51 (twelve years ago)
well there were 11 50 win teams in 2009 so maybe i'm overstating things
― it's a trilby (Clay), Saturday, 12 April 2014 22:54 (twelve years ago)

yeah gotta second this. obv a bit ridiculous when there's such a disparity but those playoff borne rivalries and teams needing to get past specific other teams before they can really begin their era (thinking esp of pistons-celtics and then bulls-pistons back in the day) was such a vital thing. if anything i'd argue there was more of a case for blowing up the playoff system 12 or so years ago when the top of the east didn't really compare to the top of the west, at least this year you have the heat.
― balls, Saturday, 12 April 2014 23:35 (twelve years ago)
I'm just mad that phx would be third in the east right now and is currently out of the 'offs in the west
Third!!!!
― z-time champion (agent hibachi), Sunday, 13 April 2014 00:06 (twelve years ago)
I'm all for bisons plan otherwise though I do like how mad teams get when they have to play each other a lot, maybe some math genius can come up with a way to cut the reg season down by ~15 games and solve the east-west problem and also make sure we get good heated rivalries like heat-celtics the last few years or lac-gsw now while cutting down on the number of kings-bucks games we need to endure
Basically nba could use some flex scheduling right?
― z-time champion (agent hibachi), Sunday, 13 April 2014 00:12 (twelve years ago)
Less teams imo
― IKEA metaballs (Spottie), Sunday, 13 April 2014 00:21 (twelve years ago)
And move one to Seattle obv
― IKEA metaballs (Spottie), Sunday, 13 April 2014 00:22 (twelve years ago)
Obv we don't need two LA teams so since the lakers suck they gots to go
― IKEA metaballs (Spottie), Sunday, 13 April 2014 00:25 (twelve years ago)
it's comparable to the ncaa in that yeah some teams will be left out that shouldn't but at the same time none of those teams would actually win the whole thing. then again that's probably not really something you can say about the ncaa anymore after this year.
― balls, Sunday, 13 April 2014 00:27 (twelve years ago)
if the league expanded (and i could see it happening tbh) the sonics are one team obv but who would get the other team? would they make the vegas move?
― balls, Sunday, 13 April 2014 00:30 (twelve years ago)
England
― IKEA metaballs (Spottie), Sunday, 13 April 2014 00:35 (twelve years ago)
Oh god no
― tsrobodo, Sunday, 13 April 2014 00:41 (twelve years ago)
Vegas is the no brainer bc you can add them to the west and move one of the dumb "west" teams back to the east. I forget which is technically further east but Memphis or New Orleans should really be flipped
― z-time champion (agent hibachi), Sunday, 13 April 2014 01:13 (twelve years ago)
After Seattle of course and I wonder if the league would ever go back to Vancouver to 1 get a second Canadian team so drake is torn on who to root for and 2 have that nice little Pacific Northwest triangle back again instead of Portland being super-isolated
― z-time champion (agent hibachi), Sunday, 13 April 2014 01:16 (twelve years ago)
get Oklahoma City outta the nw division already ffs

i know alot of nba office ppl apparently think that vancouver was a missed opportunity and after vegas it definitely seemed alot more likely or attractive an option than the other cities google tells me would be expansion candidates (san diego, kansas city, pittsburgh). i've never really gotten why st. louis has never really come up in the past in talk for an expansion or relocated team (tbh based on the cardinals i've always just assumed maybe st. louis is really lame, like indianapolis but w/o the benefit of being in a hoops crazy state), maybe it was some side effect of that crazy deal w/ the spirits of st. louis owners that the nba finally bought its way out of (btw if i was those owners i would've been 'fuck you pay me' til the end of time). spirits of st. louis would be such an awesome name too.
― balls, Sunday, 13 April 2014 01:47 (twelve years ago)
Pittsburgh would automatically be a lame franchise, because it would not only be in the eastern conference, but an expansion team in the eastern conference, and in a football crazy city. One shudders to think.

Vegas has serious traffic/parking and arena problems that they haven't solved yet. Once they can build a full fledged arena that people can actually get to from the strip they'll get a team imo.
― Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 13 April 2014 02:18 (twelve years ago)
I think Kansas City should get a team for the simple reason that their arena is gorgeous.
― Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 13 April 2014 02:19 (twelve years ago)
glad we agree nba should expand
also important rule change to make this all work: no maximum salary for players
― smooth hymnal (m bison), Sunday, 13 April 2014 02:19 (twelve years ago)
Atlanta really should not have a team btw. They just can't fill that arena. Have they ever had a good fanbase? My most vivid memory of the 80s Fratello teams is when Bird went into Atlanta and dropped 60 and the crowd was 50% Celtics fans.
― Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 13 April 2014 02:22 (twelve years ago)
atl should keep their team, they should just sign braves players to get more ppl into the arena
― smooth hymnal (m bison), Sunday, 13 April 2014 02:23 (twelve years ago)

Big market. Filling seats ain't everything.
Ybor City next in line to get an NBA team.
― Daniel, Esq 2, Sunday, 13 April 2014 02:36 (twelve years ago)
After that, Hialeah, Florida get an NBA franchise.
― Daniel, Esq 2, Sunday, 13 April 2014 02:39 (twelve years ago)
Atlanta was the 5th least profitable franchise last year. Loss of 7m.
― Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 13 April 2014 02:44 (twelve years ago)
and yeah it's a big market, but are they watching the games? That big market is probably watching whatever is on TNT if they want basketball.
― Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 13 April 2014 02:45 (twelve years ago)
really sucks to see the suns go out, great season
