Haven't read anything on 538 yet but the whole thing kind of feels like silvers I'm Keith Hernandez moment after the last election, probably time to wrap up that victory lap there buddy

it'll probably be interesting in a few months and it would be nice to have someone wreck shit with math and pick up the slack from the freakonomics guys

feel like theyre gonna realize "telling stories with data" is a lot harder than they thought, especially when youre trying to publish a bunch of stuff every day, and that just like putting a couple charts in a blog post isnt really any different than anything else anyone else is doing

Tru esp the daily part which is part of I think what still grinds grantland down they just produce too much barely considered content which lowers the prominence of their best stuff (I think even their best weekly writers like Lowe and the football dude should be able to skip a week or write more irregularly since you can tell when they're just hitting deadlines with a bunch of annotated screenshots and dry technical analysis)

Although I think starting from data to find stories is a noble idea when a lot of formerly interesting sites (slate etc) have devolved into buzzfeedesque headlines + outraged premise + a few pieces of anecdata

yeah its tuff because the big #longreads type pieces have a much better chance of going #viral but sites value loyal daily readers obvs very highly too
