woodson is probably a below average NBA coach but they really did fuck him over by paying a first rounder for bargs, it completely boxed him into playing big all the time

and also it meant that they didn't pick up another big who can play defense when tyson's off the floor, just a disaster all the way around

also they knew JR was hurt and still didn't get another guard or wing who can shoot. who were their other acquisitions? udrih and MWP, who is basically a PF?

they had a good style of play last year but none of their offseason moves aside from drafting hardaway would lead woodson back down that path

otm. but oddly, everyone thought the east was especially strong this year. so many observers, so far off-the-mark.

absolutely.

iirc people thought the top would be heavier between the nets and the bulls, but then it was supposed to fall off pretty hard. maybe some ppl though the cavs would be better than absolutely awful. so after the nets' ineptitude/oldness and rose breaking down things haven't been much different than predicted.

people figured the knicks were as good as last year (or maybe better, for reasons i can't explain). the nets were supposed to be dynamite. the bulls were getting rose back, and jayland rose and bill simmons had chicago as the no. 1 team in the nba (others agreed).

Think consensus was West >>> East, but that the East might've had the top 3 teams (MIA, CHI, and maybe IND).

But picking the top 8 for the WC was a big chore; EC kinda figured top 3 + Nets, then ~maybe~ Knicks and everyone else.

west has also had a lot of surprise good teams in portland, phoenix, etc., whereas east has only had surprise bad teams.

league is "fine" but it could be better. East being weak is eliminating possibility of more good playoff matchups, and Knicks are one of top free agent markets. The more quality teams, the better, it's not rocket science.

Funny that even with Rose missing + totally Nets disarray, I think they end up being the #3/#4 seeds anyway. If everyone minus Lopez stays on the court until the playoffs, they'll be sitting pretty w/ a 2nd round series vs MIA/IND.

who said by fiat? NYC is largest city, media center, and its fans are knowledgeable and feisty. They're going to be able to attract good players regardless, so I'd rather have all that $$$ and cache being spent putting out a quality team than...this.

Wonder what the market will be for Chandler after next year-- he seems to be closer to old Chandler this year, but it's tough to gauge (same w/ Shump) on this Knicks team.

Would've been interesting if OKC had Chandler these past few years rather than Perk-- would've only been +$5m, could've maybe cut some extra money here and there.
