knicks were near miraculous good last year brown had a good scheme for his unconventional roster then management decided they needed a more conventional roster to compete w miami and indy lol

lag∞n, Monday, 3 March 2014 17:59 (twelve years ago)

yeah i don't think woodson is that bad at all but this is what happens to teams like this, their coaches get fired.

call all destroyer, Monday, 3 March 2014 18:12 (twelve years ago)

Too late. If they fire him now they risk tainting the new guy.

tsrobodo, Monday, 3 March 2014 18:14 (twelve years ago)

I watched the first five minutes of the knicks bulls game yest and it was clear to my untrained eyes the knicks players dgaf

panettone for the painfully alone (mayor jingleberries), Monday, 3 March 2014 18:14 (twelve years ago)

woodson really is that bad guys

''The point I'm at now, coming to this team, whatever role Doc sees fit for me is the role that I would do,'' Granger said. ''I'm not one of those players that says, 'I have to do this, or I have to do that.' I just want to play, have fun, shoot some 3s, throw some lobs, go celebrate.''

Call me Shitmael (CompuPost), Monday, 3 March 2014 20:44 (twelve years ago)

yeah good luck

le goon (J0rdan S.), Monday, 3 March 2014 20:47 (twelve years ago)

woodson is probably a below average NBA coach but they really did fuck him over by paying a first rounder for bargs, it completely boxed him into playing big all the time

le goon (J0rdan S.), Monday, 3 March 2014 20:47 (twelve years ago)

and also it meant that they didn't pick up another big who can play defense when tyson's off the floor, just a disaster all the way around

also they knew JR was hurt and still didn't get another guard or wing who can shoot. who were their other acquisitions? udrih and MWP, who is basically a PF?

they had a good style of play last year but none of their offseason moves aside from drafting hardaway would lead woodson back down that path

le goon (J0rdan S.), Monday, 3 March 2014 20:49 (twelve years ago)

seriously, let us not forgot how bad Bargani was. so bad.
also, they re-signed JR who got soooo much worse

Nhex, Monday, 3 March 2014 20:52 (twelve years ago)

never forget exactly how barnita got injured to end his season

Clay, Monday, 3 March 2014 20:54 (twelve years ago)

once amare comes off the books they... will probably fuck up again.

brimstead, Monday, 3 March 2014 21:08 (twelve years ago)

yes, we all learned that a man can fly

Nhex, Monday, 3 March 2014 21:10 (twelve years ago)

listing the knicks bad decisions never gets old to me

call all destroyer, Monday, 3 March 2014 21:10 (twelve years ago)

it's def some good schadenfreude but it's really not good for the league (and its fans) to have Knicks be this bad for this long

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Monday, 3 March 2014 22:13 (twelve years ago)

nah it doesn't matter

le goon (J0rdan S.), Monday, 3 March 2014 22:32 (twelve years ago)

knicks have been bad for a long time, last year notwithstanding. and people say the same thing about the lakers, celtics, etc. league is fine.

Daniel, Esq 2, Monday, 3 March 2014 22:36 (twelve years ago)

the league's second most marketable player is in oklahoma city

le goon (J0rdan S.), Monday, 3 March 2014 22:42 (twelve years ago)

nfl doesn't even have a team in LA and the nfl seems to be doing alright. the notion that certain places or franchises need to excel in order for a particular league to do well is total conservative hogwash.

maybe dolan should go galt until stern rigs the lottery for him. though he'd need a first-rounder for that.

Clay, Monday, 3 March 2014 22:58 (twelve years ago)

The quality of the eastern conference is the real problem.

brimstead, Monday, 3 March 2014 23:01 (twelve years ago)

or the playoff structure, w/h/y

brimstead, Monday, 3 March 2014 23:02 (twelve years ago)

i forgot that stern isn't around anymore but whatever, brimstead otm

Clay, Monday, 3 March 2014 23:03 (twelve years ago)

The quality of the eastern conference is the real problem.

― brimstead, Monday, March 3, 2014

otm. but oddly, everyone thought the east was especially strong this year. so many observers, so far off-the-mark.

Daniel, Esq 2, Monday, 3 March 2014 23:04 (twelve years ago)

really?

brimstead, Monday, 3 March 2014 23:04 (twelve years ago)

absolutely.

Daniel, Esq 2, Monday, 3 March 2014 23:08 (twelve years ago)

iirc people thought the top would be heavier between the nets and the bulls, but then it was supposed to fall off pretty hard. maybe some ppl though the cavs would be better than absolutely awful. so after the nets' ineptitude/oldness and rose breaking down things haven't been much different than predicted.

Clay, Monday, 3 March 2014 23:09 (twelve years ago)

people figured the knicks were as good as last year (or maybe better, for reasons i can't explain). the nets were supposed to be dynamite. the bulls were getting rose back, and jayland rose and bill simmons had chicago as the no. 1 team in the nba (others agreed).

Daniel, Esq 2, Monday, 3 March 2014 23:09 (twelve years ago)

(otm).

Daniel, Esq 2, Monday, 3 March 2014 23:09 (twelve years ago)

Think consensus was West >>> East, but that the East might've had the top 3 teams (MIA, CHI, and maybe IND).

Call me Shitmael (CompuPost), Monday, 3 March 2014 23:17 (twelve years ago)

But picking the top 8 for the WC was a big chore; EC kinda figured top 3 + Nets, then ~maybe~ Knicks and everyone else.

Call me Shitmael (CompuPost), Monday, 3 March 2014 23:18 (twelve years ago)

Marc Berman ‏@NYPost_Berman 8m

Shumpert and Pablo to bench. Stoudemire and JR to start. Woodson says searching.

Matt Armstrong, Monday, 3 March 2014 23:21 (twelve years ago)

west has also had a lot of surprise good teams in portland, phoenix, etc., whereas east has only had surprise bad teams.

Clay, Monday, 3 March 2014 23:22 (twelve years ago)

league is "fine" but it could be better. East being weak is eliminating possibility of more good playoff matchups, and Knicks are one of top free agent markets. The more quality teams, the better, it's not rocket science.

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Monday, 3 March 2014 23:28 (twelve years ago)

Funny that even with Rose missing + totally Nets disarray, I think they end up being the #3/#4 seeds anyway. If everyone minus Lopez stays on the court until the playoffs, they'll be sitting pretty w/ a 2nd round series vs MIA/IND.

Call me Shitmael (CompuPost), Monday, 3 March 2014 23:37 (twelve years ago)

ie NOBODY TAKES MARCUS THORNTON SERIOUSLY ENOUGH

Call me Shitmael (CompuPost), Monday, 3 March 2014 23:38 (twelve years ago)

The more quality teams, the better, it's not rocket science.

right but to make one team better you have to make another team worse, so why should the knicks get to be good by fiat

Clay, Monday, 3 March 2014 23:41 (twelve years ago)

who said by fiat? NYC is largest city, media center, and its fans are knowledgeable and feisty. They're going to be able to attract good players regardless, so I'd rather have all that $$$ and cache being spent putting out a quality team than...this.

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Monday, 3 March 2014 23:46 (twelve years ago)

the problem with the knicks is that they can't accept that they have to rebuild like everyone else

Matt Armstrong, Monday, 3 March 2014 23:48 (twelve years ago)

here's hoping the lakers have the same blind spot

Clay, Monday, 3 March 2014 23:52 (twelve years ago)

Wonder what the market will be for Chandler after next year-- he seems to be closer to old Chandler this year, but it's tough to gauge (same w/ Shump) on this Knicks team.

Call me Shitmael (CompuPost), Tuesday, 4 March 2014 00:03 (twelve years ago)

Would've been interesting if OKC had Chandler these past few years rather than Perk-- would've only been +$5m, could've maybe cut some extra money here and there.

Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 4 March 2014 00:33 (twelve years ago)

their roster is much more depleted this time, like theyve got nothing

lag∞n, Tuesday, 4 March 2014 00:34 (twelve years ago)

they have a top 5 pick, maybe he'll hit like he did with Bynum

Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 4 March 2014 00:34 (twelve years ago)

old ass kobe old ass pau and a bunch of nobodies really just nothing

lag∞n, Tuesday, 4 March 2014 00:35 (twelve years ago)
