Mchale didn't move to the bench until 89, which is pretty late in the game as far as Bird's career is concerned
― Matt Armstrong, Thursday, 27 February 2014 05:00 (twelve years ago)
bird's power forwards were cornbread maxwell and kevin mchale and . . . anyone else?
― Daniel, Esq 2, Thursday, 27 February 2014 05:02 (twelve years ago)
yeah for some reason i think of mchale being sixth man by like 86 or so but i guess that's not the case.
― Clay, Thursday, 27 February 2014 05:03 (twelve years ago)
You guys this Manu exploding shoe may be like next level injury protection technology. That thing may have saved his ankle from turning over!

― Clay, Thursday, 27 February 2014 05:23 (twelve years ago)

― le goon (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 27 February 2014 05:38 (twelve years ago)
the rockets rotation is real serious now with their point guards healthy, hamilton shoring up the wing rotation and asik not sulking like a child
― le goon (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 27 February 2014 05:41 (twelve years ago)

by no means disagreeing, but what happened to make you say this now? i saw some kind of near-fight late in the game, but didn't see if chris paul was involved in it. harden was.

Will Barton and Mo Williams (combined $3.5 million salary) have outscored Nets starters (combined $68.6 million salary), 37-35.
a golliver tweet sometime during the fourth quarter of the blazers/nets game tonight.

technically fwiw mchale always came off the bench but that was just cause he had some weird superstition against starting and would come in at the first whistle

right, I mean even in the seasons where he was "sixth man" we all knew what the real frontcourt was. He still started almost every game of his prime though.

Is there a summary judgement yet as to why he refuses to stop taking long jumpers / 3pters at mid to high volumes for the Pistons? Like, even if Monroe/Drummond clog the lane, I'd still rather force Smith to drive the lane and dump off / jack up 5fters rather than 20fters. Why haven't Cheeks/Loyer yanked him from games for jacking up bad shots? Has any reporter just point-blank asked Cheeks/Loyer (or even Smith!) why the fuck they continue to let him jack up these shots?
Beyond frustrating because dude is a Top 10 forward -- + wing defender, can guard multiple positions, really great offensive game near the basket -- but he's now on his 2nd organization that enables his daft shooting. idgi.

simmons has been calling smoove one of the 10 best forwards in the NBA since his monster year a few seasons ago but it's certainly not true any longer
― le goon (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 27 February 2014 15:56 (twelve years ago)
So possibly Granger to Clips?
― james franco tur(oll)ing test (Hurting 2), Thursday, 27 February 2014 15:58 (twelve years ago)
I mean I guess 10 seasons in, this is who he is; just tough to accept that a dude w/ his skillset isn't a Top 10 and the only thing keeping him from it is shot selection.
"To be honest, I do a great job of focusing on basketball and not really reading outside negativity or criticism," Smith said. "I just try to focus on myself and being a teammate. What people say and write is beyond my control.""I just play basketball," he said. "I'm a basketball player. People try to throw statistics in there. I'm not one to look at where I am on the court (when I shoot).""I'm confident in each and every play I make. I don't think about it. I just play and play with confidence."

― call all destroyer, Thursday, 27 February 2014 17:13 (twelve years ago)
silly me, I thought part of being a "basketball player" was like having some sense of where you are on the court.

― james franco tur(oll)ing test (Hurting 2), Thursday, 27 February 2014 18:40 (twelve years ago)
he could imo, also if he cld shoot better, also if his team played him at pf
― lag∞n, Thursday, 27 February 2014 18:41 (twelve years ago)
basically he needs to goto the spurs
― lag∞n, Thursday, 27 February 2014 18:42 (twelve years ago)
I don't think he's really going to fit into the spurs system with that attitude
― james franco tur(oll)ing test (Hurting 2), Thursday, 27 February 2014 18:43 (twelve years ago)
iirc he's played both sf and pf, and surprise, his shot selection was exactly the same. dude just needs to quit it.
― Call me Shitmael (CompuPost), Thursday, 27 February 2014 18:44 (twelve years ago)
would love to see a breakdown
― lag∞n, Thursday, 27 February 2014 18:46 (twelve years ago)
Think his zone % were the same, only diff is that his usage went up a bit and accounted for more fts per game, which is the right direction.
