honestly i don't know. not sure i've ever seen him do anything in an open-court situation. he's pretty impressive when squirming around defenders or dunking over big guys, kinda the way baron davis was, but that's not what the dunk contest is about.

it'll also be his fourth event in two days so he's not gonna have the gas that the other guys have. not that the three-point contest really takes it out of you or anything, but his head will have been elsewhere all day if nothing else.

I think the league makes them play, they need some star power in that game. Kyrie played in both games last year. I remember Roy did too, in 09 or whatever.

I read today's hand-wringing column by our local Oregonian sportswriter honcho, John Canzano, where he raises the specter of Lillard getting injured, or simply not resting enough to help the Blazers win their playoff first round. My thought was that Lillard wasn't going to see major minutes in the All-Star game anyway and other than the rookie-sophomore game all the other contests are no more than practice drills raised to a bigger stage.

Injured during the 3-point contest? Give me a break. Putting him the dunk contest was just a marketing gesture so he could brag up playing in all the events. All Lillard really needs to do is show up, dunk a few, and not embarrass himself.

As for not resting enough, none of the All-Stars get a real rest that weekend. If you want to rest the kid, don't let him go there at all. Last year I fully expected Lillard to hit the rookie wall in February. He didn't, and he was playing more minutes than anyone else in the league.
