I don't know much about baseball but isn't this a sport where some old fart high school coach made the majors because he realized he still could throw in the 90s? I wouldn't write off a 6'6 great athlete who was a top pitching prospect in high school.

Matt Armstrong, Saturday, 1 February 2014 21:06 (twelve years ago)

it would make a world of difference if he was a lefty, as it is cool story but i doubt it amounts to much

call all destroyer, Saturday, 1 February 2014 21:53 (twelve years ago)

Love this pick-up for most of the same reasons I loved the Beasley/Heat signing-- no risk / worst case scenario they just ask Bynum to go home and collect $1m+, thx for the memories.

probably right. fwiw, beasley seems to have caused zero locker-room problems; let's see how it goes with bynum.

Daniel, Esq 2, Saturday, 1 February 2014 22:12 (twelve years ago)

also beasley can move

le goon (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 1 February 2014 22:21 (twelve years ago)

fwiw it seems like the cavs locker room is still fucked up even without bynum. maybe he just hated it there.

Just a PSA, Lance will be going against Joe Johnson tonight.

Call me Shitmael (CompuPost), Saturday, 1 February 2014 23:06 (twelve years ago)

epic battle of average players

lag∞n, Saturday, 1 February 2014 23:26 (twelve years ago)

stephenson's average? i dunno.

Ira Winderman ‏@IraHeatBeat -- essence of Heat-Pacers comes down to whether Wade wins his matchups against Stephenson. Not a given anymore.

Daniel, Esq 2, Saturday, 1 February 2014 23:29 (twelve years ago)

i'm....not really sure that's what it comes down to

call all destroyer, Saturday, 1 February 2014 23:30 (twelve years ago)

think it's all hibbert/west v. anyone the heat can throw at them?

Daniel, Esq 2, Saturday, 1 February 2014 23:31 (twelve years ago)

feel like were really jumping the gun as far as overrating the pacers supporting cast, thats a privilege usually reserved for championship teams

lag∞n, Saturday, 1 February 2014 23:31 (twelve years ago)

xp the whole line of commentary kinda drives me crazy because a 7-game series will not come down to like the essence of one thing

call all destroyer, Saturday, 1 February 2014 23:32 (twelve years ago)

you may be right. i watch them some this year, and i can't decide if they're a powerhouse champion-in-waiting or more like the recent bulls or 90s knicks teams (good in the regular-season, but can't overcome the-champ in the playoffs).

xp

Daniel, Esq 2, Saturday, 1 February 2014 23:33 (twelve years ago)

true; it will be a lot of different things. but the wade/stephenson matchup will definitely be a big-deal.

Daniel, Esq 2, Saturday, 1 February 2014 23:33 (twelve years ago)

I think the hill/cole matchup will be v important and decisive def

lag∞n, Saturday, 1 February 2014 23:35 (twelve years ago)

that's nonsense you didn't even mention oden.

Daniel, Esq 2, Saturday, 1 February 2014 23:36 (twelve years ago)

lance is 108th in the league in PER right now (24th in win shares tho)

Clay, Saturday, 1 February 2014 23:52 (twelve years ago)

and if any heat thing comes down to wade performing consistently they're probably in trouble

Clay, Saturday, 1 February 2014 23:53 (twelve years ago)

that's true. i think everyone down here hopes for "moments," i.e., individual-games, of greatness, but not for prolonged stretches (unless this knee procedure he had during the off-season really needs 6 months to heal and get wade's knee right, and he's just on-schedule; who knows?).

Daniel, Esq 2, Saturday, 1 February 2014 23:54 (twelve years ago)

lance is a good player, probably a little underrated by PER. he's a vital part of the best team in the league, one with a really specific identity. but the ASG isn't really for those kinds of players

k3vin k., Sunday, 2 February 2014 00:10 (twelve years ago)

hes maybe the 4th best player on his team w/e w/c

lag∞n, Sunday, 2 February 2014 00:22 (twelve years ago)

yes but the 4th best player on that team is better than the 1st player on 26 of the other 29 teams.

Daniel, Esq 2, Sunday, 2 February 2014 00:25 (twelve years ago)

z-time champion (agent hibachi), Sunday, 2 February 2014 01:03 (twelve years ago)

that winderman post is so ridiculously misguided. a position matchup between wade and lance is nearly the last thing i would classify as "important" in a potential series between these two, much less the "essence" i mean ffs.

Clay, Sunday, 2 February 2014 01:20 (twelve years ago)

also wade will win it so rip indy i guess

lag∞n, Sunday, 2 February 2014 01:36 (twelve years ago)

the most important match up in that series is obvs the heat v hibbert scoring twice as many points as he usually does

lag∞n, Sunday, 2 February 2014 01:37 (twelve years ago)

wait wait, lemme go thru chris webber's keys to the game:

  • lebron wake up: he can do that! i'm sure he will do that!
  • lebron get on the bus: he'll probably do that. he's a team player, and i think that's how they get to the games?
  • lebron show up to game: he's planning to show up! this is easy!
so the heat will beat the pacers after all? wow! this is a relief.

Daniel, Esq 2, Sunday, 2 February 2014 02:22 (twelve years ago)

No, C-Webb was predicting the Heat would beat the Hawks, if Lebron did all that. Read the tiny print onscreen.

Aimless, Sunday, 2 February 2014 02:33 (twelve years ago)

dammit. i'm depressed again.

Daniel, Esq 2, Sunday, 2 February 2014 02:34 (twelve years ago)

durant went 8 for 21 tonight and the wiz clobbered the thunder

Clay, Sunday, 2 February 2014 02:40 (twelve years ago)

He's human? Who knew.

Aimless, Sunday, 2 February 2014 02:46 (twelve years ago)

new month, his one-month energy shot has worn off

rhyme heals all goons (m bison), Sunday, 2 February 2014 02:55 (twelve years ago)

lynn swan! what a great, all-time receiver.

Daniel, Esq 2, Sunday, 2 February 2014 03:11 (twelve years ago)

(celebrities at the knicks -- heat game)

Daniel, Esq 2, Sunday, 2 February 2014 03:11 (twelve years ago)

Bank shot by Norris cole, one of our most exciting young players

z-time champion (agent hibachi), Sunday, 2 February 2014 03:48 (twelve years ago)

Wade is really feeling it, must be awesome to be that good and see jr smith guarding you

z-time champion (agent hibachi), Sunday, 2 February 2014 03:49 (twelve years ago)

biggest thing about the game is the tightening-up of miami's rotation. basically going with 8 players? not sure if it's something special, or something they're starting now (obv., they'd eventually tighten the rotation for the playoffs).

Daniel, Esq 2, Sunday, 2 February 2014 03:51 (twelve years ago)

this is quite the article

“He’s acting like he doesn’t care,” one Cavs player said of Irving.

wow.

Daniel, Esq 2, Sunday, 2 February 2014 04:53 (twelve years ago)

lillard hits a go-ahead shot with 12 seconds to go, yawn

Clay, Sunday, 2 February 2014 05:32 (twelve years ago)

They are involved in so many close games

Spottie, Sunday, 2 February 2014 05:47 (twelve years ago)

this one was stupid, the popular rappers came back from 19 down (credit to them, they played hard as hell in the fourth) and took their first lead with 23 seconds to go, then just didn't have the execution at the end of the game.

Clay, Sunday, 2 February 2014 05:55 (twelve years ago)

The who now?

Spottie, Sunday, 2 February 2014 05:57 (twelve years ago)

the raptors, it's an in-joke from like 2k posts into the previous regular season thread

Clay, Sunday, 2 February 2014 06:21 (twelve years ago)

Oh yes hah vaguely remember.

Spottie, Sunday, 2 February 2014 06:22 (twelve years ago)

cavs are so fascinating

le goon (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 2 February 2014 14:40 (twelve years ago)
