there's no way that Royce White is the worst first round pick ever. Probably not in the top 50 worst.

dry and dusty, but the retirement-home has some fine cuisine.

With the NBA trade deadline just three weeks away, the rumor mill is about to go into overdrive. For the fans who live for scuttlebutt, it'll be a great time. For the players whose names are heard along the grapevine, it'll be an unsettling month. In speaking with several league executives and agents this week, here are some of the things I was told: It's not unanimous, but most executives I spoke with think Chicago will go after Carmelo Anthony in free agency.

Gross
Who was that big man from Spain that Orlando drafted a while ago who kept promising to come over and then backed out or something?
― z-time champion (agent hibachi), Friday, 31 January 2014 01:55 (twelve years ago)
I would be happy to see him and his salary go except that I know nothing good will come of it as long as Jimmy D. is running the org

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ will be next miami dolphins gm.

I remember reading that the Cavs use all sorts of really unorthodox advanced stats and shit and that's why they picked Waiters and Thompson.
― Matt Armstrong, Friday, 31 January 2014 02:12 (twelve years ago)
how's that workin out for ya cleveland
― Burt Stuntin (Hurting 2), Friday, 31 January 2014 02:14 (twelve years ago)
royce white is a first round pick who never played in the nba despite no catastrophic unforeseen injury or death
that alone makes him one of the worst first round picks ever. but there's a whole list of players who DID play in the nba and were actively bad and hurtful to their teams. whatever that list is... all those players were worse picks than royce white.
― le goon (J0rdan S.), Friday, 31 January 2014 02:15 (twelve years ago)
i wanna feel bad for chris grant because dan gilbert seems legendarily delusional
that having been said he's made some terrible moves
i feel like the draft picks are one thing... drafting players is a pretty delicate and fluky process. and he targeted kyrie immediately as the #1 pick over derrick williams.
more concerning to me are the free agent signings. jarrett jack and earl clark were openly bad signings, paying two players coming off career years that were clearly unsustainable. jarrett jack is a disaster and also made no sense given their roster on top of it all.
i was a fan of the bynum signing at the time but i can't imagine having seen him work out and then wanting to sign him. he's a shell of a shell of himself and that should have been obvious to anyone who saw him in the offseason. and given his reputation behind the scenes... jesus. another disaster move.
― le goon (J0rdan S.), Friday, 31 January 2014 02:19 (twelve years ago)
bynum signing I'm willing to guess was all Dan G.
― Matt Armstrong, Friday, 31 January 2014 02:21 (twelve years ago)
the fact that all these first round picks have underperformed does make me wonder if there's a mid-90s clipperish negative atmosphere there. Kyrie was a no-brainer really and the picks that were reaches weren't crazy or anything.
― Matt Armstrong, Friday, 31 January 2014 02:23 (twelve years ago)
hornacek seems like such an awesome guy. i hated him as a player
― k3vin k., Friday, 31 January 2014 02:24 (twelve years ago)
i still don't think the waiters pick is that bad considering what that draft is looking like right now
i mean, they should've taken drummond. but you could say that for every team in the top 8 of that draft except the hornets (brow) and blazers (dame).
the backcourt/wing players taken in the first round after waiters are: lillard (obv not a fit for cavs), barnes, terrence ross, jeremy lamb, kendall marshall, fournier, john jenkins, jared cunningham, marquis teague, jeff taylor
waiters may already be the best of that group now let alone in the future.
― le goon (J0rdan S.), Friday, 31 January 2014 02:24 (twelve years ago)
I think the Raptors pick of Ross might work out for them too, that was viewed as a big reach at the time as well.
― Matt Armstrong, Friday, 31 January 2014 02:25 (twelve years ago)
that draft was hideous
― Clay, Friday, 31 January 2014 02:26 (twelve years ago)
best aside from lillard obv
― le goon (J0rdan S.), Friday, 31 January 2014 02:27 (twelve years ago)
brow, drummond, dame & maybe MKG and ross are gonna save that draft but the rest is almost beyond words
― le goon (J0rdan S.), Friday, 31 January 2014 02:29 (twelve years ago)
bynum signing I'm willing to guess was all Dan G.― Matt Armstrong, Thursday, January 30, 2014

brilliant move by cavs signing bynum is key to wooing lebron back in 2014-2015.
― Daniel, Esq 2, Friday, 31 January 2014 02:29 (twelve years ago)
j0rdan's list of backcourt guys in the 12 draft after waiters features conspicuous absence of austin rivers
― Clay, Friday, 31 January 2014 02:30 (twelve years ago)
beal and barnes will be pretty decent players too

haha fuck EXACTLY
― le goon (J0rdan S.), Friday, 31 January 2014 02:31 (twelve years ago)
beal is gonna be a star imo but he was a year after
jarrett jack is hellaciously bad by the way. one of my least fav players to watch. every 2 pointer he takes is terrible.
earlier in this game he drove to the basket and had one big in front of him so he dribbled under the basket and back out turned around and shot a midrange jumper
― le goon (J0rdan S.), Friday, 31 January 2014 02:32 (twelve years ago)
beal was the third pick, after davis and mkg!
― Clay, Friday, 31 January 2014 02:32 (twelve years ago)
@rodboone: .@drayblatche said he wants everyone to know his new name from now on is Young Seymour. As in, "They want to see more of me."

oh well see this draft is pretty damn good at the top
― le goon (J0rdan S.), Friday, 31 January 2014 03:02 (twelve years ago)
Only 2 1/2 guys in the top ten were bad depending on how you feel abt waiters
It's p slim picking after that though if you did that draft again plumlee and sullinger probably are lottery picks and maybe draymond green and it's real bad beyond that
― z-time champion (agent hibachi), Friday, 31 January 2014 03:34 (twelve years ago)
tim hardaway jr looks like he's gonna be a big player
