moullet, Friday, 17 January 2014 04:41 (twelve years ago)

melo's had a nice season tbh, them sucking is mostly not his fault

k3vin k., Friday, 17 January 2014 04:45 (twelve years ago)

steven adams strikes again

k3vin k., Friday, 17 January 2014 04:47 (twelve years ago)

their season in a nutshell

ryan, Friday, 17 January 2014 04:49 (twelve years ago)

the knicks sucking is mostly not melo's fault but the way he plays the game is not conducive to winning and i think that trickles down

le goon (J0rdan S.), Friday, 17 January 2014 04:49 (twelve years ago)

otm
melo is the suckiest great player ive ever seen

rhyme heals all goons (m bison), Friday, 17 January 2014 04:51 (twelve years ago)

he's played fine. the rest of the roster (and their coach) is a complete joke. part of them sucking has to do with his contract and how it limits what kind of complementary pieces they can build around him, but it's not his fault stat/chandler are perpetually injured or just bad

k3vin k., Friday, 17 January 2014 04:51 (twelve years ago)

I wouldn't say he's played "fine." He's not the most efficient guy. I feel like if they had better pieces he'd suck all the energy away from them, unless maybe they had a great scoring pg that didn't pass to him all the time.

Sometimes I feel like Melo isn't even playing NBA basketball, he's just playing Meloball, like he has this whole independent idea of the game in his head and is out of touch with what's actually going on

signed, J.P. Morgan CEO (Hurting 2), Friday, 17 January 2014 04:53 (twelve years ago)

woodson is a decent coach. the main issue is roster construction... ie the front office forcing bargnani on him and nudging him away from smallball. that their only good defensive player is chandler. A

but melo is connected to all these things. he puts up points -- sometimes efficiently! -- but if he was more of a leader and had a better idea of how to play i also think they'd be better.

le goon (J0rdan S.), Friday, 17 January 2014 04:58 (twelve years ago)

the idea of a "culture" is hard to overstate in the nba imo & that's the knicks overarching problem. there is a chicken & egg situation there with melo but I don't think he's absolved.

some people will forever give lebron shit for humbling himself and going to the heat but he saved his career (in a sense) by recognizing that he needed to leave the inmates-running-the-asylum culture of cleveland for a place like miami with a strong structure. then from there lebron was able to help shape the franchise in his image in a positive way (beasley, oden etc).

melo needs his riley/wade etc. i mean dwight recognized it too. melo has his opt out this year but we'll see if he wants to give up the money for the other benefits.

le goon (J0rdan S.), Friday, 17 January 2014 05:08 (twelve years ago)

houston put up 73 in the first half and has 92 with 1:18 left this is unbelievable

le goon (J0rdan S.), Friday, 17 January 2014 05:13 (twelve years ago)

yeah what on earth

k3vin k., Friday, 17 January 2014 05:15 (twelve years ago)

apparently it's a record, -54 point differential between halves

micah, Friday, 17 January 2014 05:18 (twelve years ago)

IDK, I really get the feeling sometimes that Melo is just dense when it comes to team basketball, like not stupid, but just in his own world where he's the hero

signed, J.P. Morgan CEO (Hurting 2), Friday, 17 January 2014 05:19 (twelve years ago)

after melo retires i'm probably sucker punching the first guy that tells me he belongs in the hof

Clay, Friday, 17 January 2014 05:21 (twelve years ago)

the thing is he is brilliant at creating his own shots, but that's like all he does. if you watch his offensive highlights, there's almost never anyone else involved in the play -- melo isn't passing, melo isn't getting passed to, no one setting screens for melo, it's just melo against the world. And yeah, that might be a chicken-egg kind of thing, where the team never learns to play any other way cuz that's what he does

He's been a top 10ish player in the NBA for about a decade, that probably should get you in the hall

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 17 January 2014 05:28 (twelve years ago)

yeah you can't really not put a guy with his numbers in the HOF, let's not get carried away

you could bump it down to 15 maybe

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 17 January 2014 05:57 (twelve years ago)

yeah i mean if reggie miller is in the HOF melo probably will be

k3vin k., Friday, 17 January 2014 05:58 (twelve years ago)

I mean he's a leading scorer every year. I know that doesn't mean "top player" automatically, but I think "shittiest top player ever" is more apt than "not a top player"

signed, J.P. Morgan CEO (Hurting 2), Friday, 17 January 2014 06:00 (twelve years ago)

statistics are everything in the hall, he's in

Spottie, Friday, 17 January 2014 06:02 (twelve years ago)

i think lebron's drunk

k3vin k., Friday, 17 January 2014 06:02 (twelve years ago)

oh he's just tweeting the lyrics to some crappy TI song nvm

sounds drunk to me

actually kinda loved Melo in 08-09 but imo chauncey was the leader of that squad and wrangled the beast. they complemented each other really well, that was Chauncey's last good year and he lead that team. Melo needs that kind of situation I think.

they aren't, actually, or else Artis Gilmore wouldn't have had to wait so long. And he only got in because Colangelo made it happen.
