grantland got a redesign, its pretty bad

yeah it sucks but i always say that about new designs so we'll see

yeah i always liked the simplicity of the old design (esp w/ adblocker) but this is understandable, does a better job of promoting all their content or whatever. mainly just relieved they haven't gone to that 'this will look like garbage if you're not reading it on a tablet' design new republic and a bunch of others have adopted.

i liked the old design, never had trouble finding anything. it looks more cluttered now.

yeah their old design was more in keeping w recent white space and readability trends, tho they werent really clever or detail oriented enough to fit that much content in there, the new one has tons of content but is a total mess and a definite step backward as far as the evolution of web design, and its got a bunch of really corny lowest common denominator details, especially that sticky top stories box in the margin my god what is this techcrunch, nagl for a publication trying to brand themselves as quality

great and we can add some navigation above that where if youre reading the most recent feature there will be an awkward empty space

its like the opposite of what the times did w their redesign, like its fine i guess to try and just cram everything into the home page but the article pages shd be designed to maximize readability otherwise people arent going to like reading yr articles and they wont even know why theyll just not like you

They used to turn into footnotes on tablets and they still do only now no "jump" link to return to the article sure ill scroll up 10k words after I read this one line DJ mbenga joke actually nope

the whole thing is just so dumb, do not have notes of any kind unless you have a ton of sources to site its v annoying and pointless

obvs its not hard to imagine simmons brainstorming ways to fit more inane asides into his writing

i don't read much grantland other than simmons or lowe but lowe could really do without the footnotes anyway, actually he should basically stick to x's and o's i basically hate every opinion he has

that basically how i break it down to an extent

hate the footnotes because they don't work in my offline reading app where i pretend i am going to read things later
