dwight is def a compelling counter example
― J0rdan S., Saturday, 8 June 2013 16:32 (thirteen years ago)
but dwight is a transcendent talent, bynum is merely a very good nba player
so many caveats hold on while i open a spreadsheet to catalog them all
― lag∞n, Saturday, 8 June 2013 16:33 (thirteen years ago)
eh. i just don't know if on-balance bynum is "worth it"
― J0rdan S., Saturday, 8 June 2013 16:35 (thirteen years ago)
guys this is all moot bc we all know bynum is gonna play like 16 games over five seasons and retire so basically its just a question of which gm is dumb enough to hamstring his cap room for two years followed by a big buyout payment
― joe smith avatar (agent hibachi), Saturday, 8 June 2013 16:35 (thirteen years ago)
hes not worth it because his body cant withstand an nba season, if he could stay healthy there isnt a team in the league that wouldnt max him out
― lag∞n, Saturday, 8 June 2013 16:36 (thirteen years ago)
That's a good counterexample, but as asshatty as Dwight is, to even put him in Bynum's class is kind of a joke. Not to mention Bynum has never averaged 21/14/3 while playing a whole season and being an all-world defensive force.
Like, would love to be proved wrong and hear all sorts of great things about Bynum making the rest of his team work harder / push the rest of his team to be better, but this is totally antithetical to his career MO.
― IM ME, I DO ME, AND I CHILL (CompuPost), Saturday, 8 June 2013 16:56 (thirteen years ago)
so youre saying its okay to be a bozo if youre as good as dwight
― lag∞n, Saturday, 8 June 2013 16:57 (thirteen years ago)
more like dwight was good enough to get away with it. tho it's catching up with him now.
― J0rdan S., Saturday, 8 June 2013 16:59 (thirteen years ago)
But tbh it seems totally strange to me that you think leadership doesn't matter! Is it just because it's a truism? The fact that it isn't readily quantifiable?
― IM ME, I DO ME, AND I CHILL (CompuPost), Saturday, 8 June 2013 17:00 (thirteen years ago)
lol at yr argument going from culture uber alles to leadership matter
― lag∞n, Saturday, 8 June 2013 17:01 (thirteen years ago)

almost like he was really good at basketball and now hes not as good
― lag∞n, Saturday, 8 June 2013 17:02 (thirteen years ago)
xps what J0rdan said, basically, and I don't think Bynum will ever, ever be good enough to dominate a season and have margin of error to dog it a bit. But again, that Dwight/Magic team is totally a cogent counterexample.
― IM ME, I DO ME, AND I CHILL (CompuPost), Saturday, 8 June 2013 17:05 (thirteen years ago)
Huh? Culture uber alles & leadership matter are basically the same thing.
defining something as 'over all' and 'mattering' are totally not the same thing, one is a weaker assertion than the other, and nor are culture and leadership the same

forget quantifiable first try even defining it, as it exists in basketball its mostly a story the media likes to tell, and like of course gm's like to pat themselves on the back for creating culture, if a players character flaws manifest in them being bad at basketball then fine, but the problem here is andrew bynum is really good at basketball
― lag∞n, Saturday, 8 June 2013 17:08 (thirteen years ago)
paul pierce started his career as a promising young player, then when the celtics sucked he was a disgruntled bum, then they won a title and he matured and proved himself, all these track perfectly of course to changes in the quality of his teammates, its stupid the nba is not a morality tale, its a skill game
so many players have gotten the same media treatment, i mean can lebron win it it all is he a WINNER omg, please
― lag∞n, Saturday, 8 June 2013 17:11 (thirteen years ago)

Paul Flannery @Pflanns 3mPop on LeBron: Your opinions mean nothing to him and they should mean nothing to him.
lol
― lag∞n, Saturday, 8 June 2013 17:27 (thirteen years ago)
lets just accept that bynum is the next oden/roy and let him quietly go out to the shed and live the rest of his life out in peace
― 乒乓, Saturday, 8 June 2013 18:02 (thirteen years ago)
also, watch this: bynum is the basketball gronkowski BOOM

this is good shit, remarkable how clean the cav's books are
i dont rly care abt culture argument but one reason i'd advocate for #traderondo is that i don't think he'll be very pleasant on a bad team.

Yeah, maybe New Orleans could sign Bynum to pair w/ similarly underrated Eric Gordon. Maybe they could get a decent deal on underrated Greg Oden for Bynum's backup, and maybe claim underrated Brandon Roy off waivers.
― IM ME, I DO ME, AND I CHILL (CompuPost), Saturday, 8 June 2013 23:36 (thirteen years ago)
those terrible culture guys brandon roy and greg oden
― lag∞n, Saturday, 8 June 2013 23:38 (thirteen years ago)
Oden was a depressed drunk that nobody wanted to be around, or so it came out after he left town for good.
― Clay, Saturday, 8 June 2013 23:39 (thirteen years ago)
Or maybe Bynum could join really-good-at-basketball players Tyreke Evans and DeMarcus Cousins in Sacramento, no way that team doesn't do serious playoff damage.
― IM ME, I DO ME, AND I CHILL (CompuPost), Saturday, 8 June 2013 23:40 (thirteen years ago)
what is the nba all-jerk starting five
― Clay, Saturday, 8 June 2013 23:41 (thirteen years ago)

― lag∞n, Saturday, 8 June 2013 23:42 (thirteen years ago)
kobe is kinda beyond jerk tho
yeah kobe is something different
― Clay, Saturday, 8 June 2013 23:42 (thirteen years ago)
kobe is all-monster
― Clay, Saturday, 8 June 2013 23:43 (thirteen years ago)
And if Sac has extra cap space why not try to lure JR Smith and Josh Smith, team would be loaded and would definitely not implode before the season starts.

Is Rondo a jerk? I feel like Rondo is a jerk, idk. KG is a jerk. Kobe for sure. Stackhouse?
― Poster The Sheeple (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Sunday, 9 June 2013 00:12 (thirteen years ago)
Tons of jerks / temperamental players, but if it's kind of a Players Who Terrify Teammates, seems like Kobe, Garnett and CP3 are a cut above the rest.
― IM ME, I DO ME, AND I CHILL (CompuPost), Sunday, 9 June 2013 00:30 (thirteen years ago)
Although it's more fun listing an All Pout team, dudes who will go out of their way during gameplay to prove points (Kobe refusing to shoot, Rondo going for double-figure assists, etc.)
― IM ME, I DO ME, AND I CHILL (CompuPost), Sunday, 9 June 2013 00:36 (thirteen years ago)
rondo is totally a jerk, kg is just like an intimidating berserker but if he approves of you he will defend you to the death apparently, not a jerk in my book
― joe smith avatar (agent hibachi), Sunday, 9 June 2013 01:23 (thirteen years ago)
kobe is a transcendant supervillain who would disintegrate you with laser-eyes for even considering his place on a mere "jerk scale"
