or Rodman
― Matt Armstrong, Thursday, 7 February 2013 23:12 (thirteen years ago)
all smoke and mirrors I guess
Yeah, that supporting cast is ridiculously better than anything LeBron has ever had. Again, it's similar to aaaaaaaallll those other championship teams-- all of these supporting casts, that Bulls cast included -- in that they're loaded w/ role players who do a shitton of dirty work and do it well. W/o a second thought I'd take those guys over any bottom-10 casts that LeBron has ever played with.
Or -- not to get too challopy -- I'm not totally sure that Jordon + Wade + Bosh + everyone else on that Heat team wins a ring last year. I mean, last year's Heat team, the best team LeBron has probably ever played for, almost didn't make it to the finals! It took otherworldly games from both Lebron and Wade to get there.
Kinda think that most fans can't see past the best three/four players and think that everyone else is totally interchangeable, which, if you care to look at championship-winning teams for the past 30-40 years, just isn't true. Like, it's pretty easy to be "lol king cartwright purdue kerr paxson good luck getting that ring," but that's what separates good teams from great teams.

Granny u should look into the '12-'13 LA Lakers, they've got a ton of future HoFs on their team with a really shitty bottom 10, heard they're doing really well so far this season.

what happened here? *sees granny dainger* oh *skips everything*

Compu you should look at 90s Bulls teams, they've got a ton...oh wait I just showed you a roster
― A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Thursday, 7 February 2013 23:31 (thirteen years ago)
i feel like every single one of the players the bulls had were assessed incredibly well by the coaching staff and utilized amazingly well, those bulls teams at full strength (w/jordan, non-creaky version) were unstoppable. i think MJ was better than LBJ, but i don't buy into the rep LBJ has as the nba's alex rodriguez. he also has a better sense of humor than MJ, who had this pretty amazing casual subtle trolly arrogance but less joy.
― christmas candy bar (al leong), Thursday, 7 February 2013 23:33 (thirteen years ago)
'91 MJ w/2 players as good as Bosh and Wade plus weeblywobblies beat those Mavs, sorry. 2012 LeBron would!
― A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Thursday, 7 February 2013 23:33 (thirteen years ago)
can't we just get 2K to simulate all this rather than have meaningless arguments about completely different players in completely different eras.
ps lol at anyone who uses the innovation argument *against* lebron
― Clay, Thursday, 7 February 2013 23:35 (thirteen years ago)
Yeah, that supporting cast is ridiculously better than anything LeBron has ever had
stop it
― A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Thursday, 7 February 2013 23:35 (thirteen years ago)
that's the 2nd lol against MJ innovating more than lebron and still no argument for it
go watch a game pre MJ then post MJ, tell me if that's different from pre/post LeBron. he was a quantum leap forward. lebron is a physical freak, and invented a new type of travel that doesn't get called.
― A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Thursday, 7 February 2013 23:37 (thirteen years ago)
it's not "more than" so much as it's "dude is a totally unique player, nobody has ever quite played like him before, what are you talking about"
― Clay, Thursday, 7 February 2013 23:37 (thirteen years ago)

idgi ... I actually was looking at rosters a lot today when all this silliness began. Are you hinting that they all sucked? Huge shocker: they're all incredibly solid teams built around probably the greatest player of all time. Now, if you want to look at some of those '80s teams, when -- another shocker!-- Jordan wasn't winning rings, then you'll find some pretty shitty teams.

glad nobody has gotten around to comparing mike brown to phil jackson yet
― Clay, Thursday, 7 February 2013 23:41 (thirteen years ago)
he didn't change how the game is played as much as MJ did. nearly every player, pros, college, ymca, kid on nerf hoop, had their game altered by MJ style of play. (lebron hard to emulate cause his signature move is being a 6'8" 250lb guy)
― A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Thursday, 7 February 2013 23:42 (thirteen years ago)
it's only in hindsight they're "incredibly solid teams", just like lebron's will magically become incredibly solid now that he's not pissing himself.

yeah lebron would be more awe-inspiring if the league weren't filled with 260 lb point-centers who guard 4 or 5 positions at an all-NBA level, it's true
― manti 乒乓 (k3vin k.), Thursday, 7 February 2013 23:58 (thirteen years ago)
what granny means w/ innovation is more like...influence. i care more about panache and originality (and both mj and bron had plenty)

Will totally cop to some confirmation bias / post hoc there, but I said before that, in hindsight & right now, LeBron played(s) on a really top-heavy team and I think they're totally atypical from most ring teams.

Although I'd lol if ESPN bothered to add "Boner" to its bad words list. And his name isn't even Boner!

innovation to me doesn't equate w/being unique. then spud webb was innovative i guess. so was manute bol. MJ developed (adding on from Dr J, David Thompson, etc) the modern grammar of how people play the game from the time their old enough to pick up a ball.
― A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Friday, 8 February 2013 00:28 (thirteen years ago)

both these teams and this game are weird, also it was weird that it took the refs almost a quarter before they realized they should make it less obvious that they have money on the lakers
