it's crazy to me that all the TV analysts still say that "you need to dominate the heat down low" despite everyone saying that from the start of the big 3 era and it never having been proved as a way to beat them
― J0rdan S., Friday, 18 January 2013 06:28 (thirteen years ago)
chuck just called the clippers the fourth best team in the west -_-
― J0rdan S., Friday, 18 January 2013 06:34 (thirteen years ago)
have the heat played a team in the playoffs with any kind of personnel capable of dominating down low?
― Matt Armstrong, Friday, 18 January 2013 06:45 (thirteen years ago)
Vucevic having 45 rebounds in a game vs. them was a bit of an eye opener
the pacers for sure, who gave them a run but ultimately got steamrolled
― J0rdan S., Friday, 18 January 2013 06:46 (thirteen years ago)
but that was also w/ no bosh... not that he's been much of help lately but still
Hibbert and David West isn't exactly parish and mchale
― Matt Armstrong, Friday, 18 January 2013 06:47 (thirteen years ago)
or gasol and randolph
― Matt Armstrong, Friday, 18 January 2013 06:48 (thirteen years ago)
certainly their rebounding problems have a lot to do with being a donut team
yeah, well memphis would be interesting. i don't think that will ever come to pass tho.

yeah but then you watch them in a game like tonight where they're at full strength (give or take a gimpy battier) and exerting max effort and the size thing suddenly looks like a complete misnomer. they beat the lakers easily tonight at the end of the game in a small vs big match up (partly cuz they could just beat dwight)
― J0rdan S., Friday, 18 January 2013 06:50 (thirteen years ago)
still the best way to beat the heat imo is to have a bunch of three point shooters... that's always been their weakness in the big 3 era because they rotate so aggressively, despite everyone's insistence that they'd be weak defending the paint
that's why the mavs beat them and that's why i think they lucked out when OKC beat the spurs last year and it's why the knicks slaughtered them twice this year
― J0rdan S., Friday, 18 January 2013 06:52 (thirteen years ago)
heat are starting to creep up into the top 10 in defensive efficiency for the season btw
― J0rdan S., Friday, 18 January 2013 06:56 (thirteen years ago)
(partly cuz they could just beat dwight)
partly cuz they could just foul dwight, i mean
― J0rdan S., Friday, 18 January 2013 06:57 (thirteen years ago)
it's kind of a moot point cuz we're in a weird era where a lot of the best big men in the league are on shitty teams
― Matt Armstrong, Friday, 18 January 2013 07:01 (thirteen years ago)
I guess that's cuz so many of them are young
@ArashMarkazi Dwight Howard is pretending to walk around the Lakers locker room with his imaginary girlfriend, Judy.

NBA commissioner David Stern says any team tempted to "eavesdrop" on opponents will face sanctions from the league.

the lakers should trade pau to whatever team in the east is an 8 seed for their playoff berth
― panettone for the painfully alone (mayor jingleberries), Friday, 18 January 2013 18:39 (thirteen years ago)
they should trade dwight

no but really dwight is the only "trade chip" they have that could do anything signifiant to their roster
― J0rdan S., Friday, 18 January 2013 18:44 (thirteen years ago)
they should trade dwight on account of both he and the team being the worst
Pau has no value?
― queef ka queef (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Friday, 18 January 2013 18:45 (thirteen years ago)
with the way he's played this year plus his injuries he's not going to bring back anything for them that's going to significantly alter their season imo
― J0rdan S., Friday, 18 January 2013 18:47 (thirteen years ago)
hes 32 years old and shooting 40% for the season
― lag∞n, Friday, 18 January 2013 18:47 (thirteen years ago)
having said that considering his contribution has been basically zero this year they prob could improve by trading him for depth
― lag∞n, Friday, 18 January 2013 18:48 (thirteen years ago)

lag∞n massive thank you for posting that picture. I remember talking with that dude at an Indy/Lakers Finals game more than a decade ago and could never figure out who the fuck it was! Had always assumed that he was some rich old actor; never really knew how to Google search "actor who goes to Lakers games." Now I know: James Goldstein, NBA Superfan.
Also just about any team in the league would love to have Pau lurking around the post / hitting step-back Js if he has to. He might be a little banged up, but if the Olympics were any indication (and assuming he hasn't sustained some kind of new injury this season), dude still has it and his # drops probably say more about how the Lakers use him than they do about him. Plus, isn't his contract, as big as it is, still more desirable than Dwight's?
― ヽ(´ー`)┌ (CompuPost), Friday, 18 January 2013 21:05 (thirteen years ago)
haha yeah that dude is everywhere, there was some whole article abt him a couple years back im sure you could dig up, spoiler hes a bit of a weirdo

kobe's looked ok on-ball on some good players but this is just not a smart strategy at this stage of his career
