i forgot gerald wallace is actually a very good player when he's not hurt, he went hard at the basket a couple of times and still has decent range on his shot

questionable motor (agent hibachi), Saturday, 24 November 2012 19:36 (thirteen years ago)

wallace is sort of proto manimal

lag∞n, Saturday, 24 November 2012 19:55 (thirteen years ago)

Sixers GM Tony DiLeo told reporters Saturday that Bynum, who has been dealing with bone bruises in both of his knees, is officially being listed as out “indefinitely” with no timetable for his return to the court.

Clay, Saturday, 24 November 2012 23:53 (thirteen years ago)

think portland should use their max cap space on bynum so they can replicate what could've been the greg oden era

J0rdan S., Saturday, 24 November 2012 23:54 (thirteen years ago)

also since you guys were talking about GW I've been meaning to mention, with pdx playing brooklyn, but he was traded in exchange for the pick that became lillard and then the nets gave him $98mil so I wonder how the brass is feeling about that one.

Clay, Sunday, 25 November 2012 00:00 (thirteen years ago)

lillard is presently a whole lot cheaper than $98mil.

Aimless, Sunday, 25 November 2012 00:09 (thirteen years ago)

i mean clearly for the future i'd rather have the omen but if wallace can stay healthy he fits really well on the nets- he can create occasionally, swing between 3 and 4, and he and humphries can both help alleviate lopez's allergy to rebounds

i think prokhorov clearly does not give a fuck about payroll size or spending efficiency in the way basically every other team (outside of the lakers) now has to or ought to, so i'm not sure we should bother factoring that into our calculations in any net-related case

questionable motor (agent hibachi), Sunday, 25 November 2012 00:18 (thirteen years ago)

fair enough but even if you don't give a fuck its sort of ridiculous to offer a 30 year old with an injury history whose game relies *entirely* on his athleticism $98m/5 years. It's not like Wallace can fall back on his jump shot in his declining years. (He is averaging 7, 4, and 3 in the 4 games he's appeared in this year)

Clay, Sunday, 25 November 2012 00:36 (thirteen years ago)

even Paul Allen eventually got sick of the luxury tax

Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 25 November 2012 00:46 (thirteen years ago)

oh no doubt I would rather have lillard and trading for wallace was pretty ridiculous on its face for just the reasons clay noted. I'm just saying the nets owners (Russian Cuban in particular) doesnt care about the price tags attached, at least for now.

I would only care insofar as drafted, rising stars are some of the most valuable commodities in ball both in absolute and value-adjusted terms. which is why phx's insistence on selling draft picks during the Nash era was so galling.

even all that said u need a lot of luck to turn draft picks after 1-2 into real winning players.

questionable motor (agent hibachi), Sunday, 25 November 2012 02:11 (thirteen years ago)

btw clay I totally agree w you I just think prokhorov is playing a diff game and will discard gw well before the end of that contract if he declines too steeply

I had just frankly forgotten that there is a competent Nba player in there!

questionable motor (agent hibachi), Sunday, 25 November 2012 02:13 (thirteen years ago)

I remember the whole board was super stoked on Wallace at the beginning of last season, and then the blazers started losing and his game completely fell apart. It's pretty plausible that he could become completely useless within a couple years as he ages, which sucks because he's such a unique and compelling talent.

Clay, Sunday, 25 November 2012 02:21 (thirteen years ago)

And yeah I agree that prokhorov is doing his own lavish unlimited spending thing, just like Cuban did for the better part of the last dozen years. But it's a losing proposition in the long run for reasons we all know.

Clay, Sunday, 25 November 2012 02:26 (thirteen years ago)

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand another game winning three for ray allen

J0rdan S., Sunday, 25 November 2012 03:15 (thirteen years ago)

Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 25 November 2012 03:24 (thirteen years ago)

Crash had been one of my favorite 3 players in the league for about 5 years until his falloff last year. Just a joy to watch. He has flashes once in a while but he hasn't been the same.

His face is kinda hateworthy but I like him. Remember when he got shot?

Shved might be the laziest player in the NBA

Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 25 November 2012 05:31 (thirteen years ago)

cant even bother to put all the vowels in his name

lag∞n, Sunday, 25 November 2012 05:40 (thirteen years ago)

Shved is one of my favorite FA signings from this summer. Had a lol watching someone's 11/12 Russian League highlight reel and turned it off when 10/9/8 were all straight-up normal layups.

Hit me tonight by how euro'd out the NBA is now. Seems basically a given that an All-Euro-NBAers team would probably cream the Heat, and I'm not sure how far back I'd have to go where I thought the All Euros from that year would probably beat that year's NBA Champ team (would also lead to Dirking on Dirk, Ginobli flopping after getting eurostepped by Ginobli, etc.).
