this is the same argument we had when you tried to tell me that asik's per 36 minutes showed he was better than joakim noah
― pussy try it (J0rdan S.), Friday, 16 November 2012 22:43 (thirteen years ago)
When he plays more than 15 minutes a game I'll give a crap about his projected numbers. His on/off court tells a much more compelling story, as he doesn't play in a vacuum but as part of a team. And his team is worse in nearly every category with him on the floor.

I never said that, quit it with the straw man horseshit
― Matt Armstrong, Friday, 16 November 2012 22:45 (thirteen years ago)
using per 36 stats for selectively used bench players is almost close to worthless. if javale played starter minutes, his stats wouldn't look like that. that's why he's a selectively used bench player.
― pussy try it (J0rdan S.), Friday, November 16, 2012 10:43 PM (1 minute ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink
yeah that's why that list is packed with selectively used bench players, good point
― Matt Armstrong, Friday, 16 November 2012 22:46 (thirteen years ago)
actually jordan studies have shown that as players minutes go up their per 36 averages tend to improve, tho its not a huge effect, so m/l per 36 minutes are generally a p good to go by
― lag∞n, Friday, 16 November 2012 22:46 (thirteen years ago)
asik is totally better than noah tho
― lag∞n, Friday, 16 November 2012 22:48 (thirteen years ago)
& anyway as EZ says the knock against javale has always been not that he can't get his own numbers but that the team is always worse when he plays. and that's still true this year!
― pussy try it (J0rdan S.), Friday, 16 November 2012 22:48 (thirteen years ago)
asik is on a way better contract than noah but he's nowhere near as good
I guess his rebounds don't count either cuz he's terrible at it
― Matt Armstrong, Friday, 16 November 2012 22:48 (thirteen years ago)
hes a much better defender and hes not the biggest goober in the world
― lag∞n, Friday, 16 November 2012 22:49 (thirteen years ago)
also younger
haha greg anderson=cadillac anderson
― A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Friday, 16 November 2012 22:49 (thirteen years ago)
asik>noah? c'mon now let's not get crazy. dude can't catch the ball, that's kind of important.
― A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Friday, 16 November 2012 22:51 (thirteen years ago)
Yeah no way I can cosign asik > noah
― Good job, good multiple efforts (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Friday, 16 November 2012 22:52 (thirteen years ago)
noah is better at offense but worth considering that noah is not actually v good at offense, so im not sure how much value youre really getting there
― lag∞n, Friday, 16 November 2012 22:53 (thirteen years ago)
asik is crazily bad at offense... jo is truly one of the better two way centers in the nba
― pussy try it (J0rdan S.), Friday, 16 November 2012 22:53 (thirteen years ago)
asik is an elite defender where noah is a good one, theyre both excellent rebounders tho asik prob has the edge there too, noah is better on offense
― lag∞n, Friday, 16 November 2012 22:54 (thirteen years ago)
anyway to end this javale nonsense: i'm totally cool w/ karl limiting his minutes even when he's "hot" because he's just a really volatile player whose teams have never played better when he's on the floor for the duration of his career. but clearly they gave him a big deal so they have bigger plans for him, but they need to bring him along.
― pussy try it (J0rdan S.), Friday, 16 November 2012 22:55 (thirteen years ago)

lol ya sure jokim noah and his great 9ppg lifetime average, beautiful jump shot, and dribbling ability
― lag∞n, Friday, 16 November 2012 22:55 (thirteen years ago)
noah is one of best passing big men in league, and has become a surprisingly good FT shooter, decent defender, great offeensive rebounder. asik is big, protects the rim, rebounds, sets good screens when he's not moving during them...that's about it?
― A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Friday, 16 November 2012 22:56 (thirteen years ago)
basically teams dont guard noah unless hes <5ft from the basket or rolling there, hes a dece passer for a big man tho
― lag∞n, Friday, 16 November 2012 22:56 (thirteen years ago)
he's been hitting mid range fairly consistently. teams don't guard asik unless he's inside the basket.
― A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Friday, 16 November 2012 22:58 (thirteen years ago)
you cant really put noah in the best passing big men in the league category when there are guys like the gasol brothers and garnett around, hes nowhere near that level
― lag∞n, Friday, 16 November 2012 22:59 (thirteen years ago)
jo's usage rate is way up this year bcuz of rose being out so his per game averages have jumped up a bit
― pussy try it (J0rdan S.), Friday, 16 November 2012 22:59 (thirteen years ago)
w/o his percentages falling, it should be noted
― pussy try it (J0rdan S.), Friday, 16 November 2012 23:01 (thirteen years ago)
oh but i did xp
― A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Friday, 16 November 2012 23:01 (thirteen years ago)
so maybe there's 3 bigs who are better passers? you right, asik gets the nod then.
― A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Friday, 16 November 2012 23:03 (thirteen years ago)
well he has averaged 1.8 assists per game lifetime so thats p impressive
― lag∞n, Friday, 16 November 2012 23:03 (thirteen years ago)
i mean how many players average more than 2 assists per game only the truly great passers
― lag∞n, Friday, 16 November 2012 23:04 (thirteen years ago)
so name another big other than those 3 that are better
― A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Friday, 16 November 2012 23:06 (thirteen years ago)
noah is a good passer but guys like vaerjao and bogut are just as good
― pussy try it (J0rdan S.), Friday, 16 November 2012 23:07 (thirteen years ago)
this is 1st yr he's getting more than 30 mpg.he's avg'ing 16/9.8/3.5
― A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Friday, 16 November 2012 23:09 (thirteen years ago)
i think the thing about noah is that offensively he doesn't have an elite skill but he's useful in a bunch of ways (very good FT shooter for a center, for instance). that combined w/ his defense, rebounding & intangibles makes him a really good player.
― pussy try it (J0rdan S.), Friday, 16 November 2012 23:09 (thirteen years ago)
diaw
― lag∞n, Friday, 16 November 2012 23:09 (thirteen years ago)
what limits javale minutes is his defense. he sucks at defensefaried is ok, like kevin love ok

duncan
― lag∞n, Friday, 16 November 2012 23:10 (thirteen years ago)
also this doesn't really matter in a vacuum but it's amazing that he's as competent as he is on offense considering what he people thought he would be out of college

how is Asik shooting below 50% when he doesn't take shots more than 5 ft from hoop?
― A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Friday, 16 November 2012 23:11 (thirteen years ago)
have they only played 8 games? didn't know that, thanks for pointing that out stats scientist

hes in this range for sure, decent passer, good skill to have, not a major differentiator tho
― lag∞n, Friday, 16 November 2012 23:13 (thirteen years ago)
when you're comparing him to asik who is AWFUL on offense, it is

his passing skill might come into play more if anyone ever had to guard him
― lag∞n, Friday, 16 November 2012 23:15 (thirteen years ago)
i mean how many time have you seen him catch the ball at the elbow then his man drops back covering the lanes to the back door and he end up missing some sloppy running hook thing
― lag∞n, Friday, 16 November 2012 23:16 (thirteen years ago)
it's a small sample size, no doubt, he could revert back to his career avg's. just ~something to think about~, numbers look pretty good when he gets 39mpg (flipside is he prob wouldn't be getting that many mins if Asik was still a Bull...cause Thibs loved Asik's defense).
― A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Friday, 16 November 2012 23:17 (thirteen years ago)
i hope you don't attend a game he's playing in and are susceptible to imaginary bullets from imaginary six shosters.
― A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Friday, 16 November 2012 23:18 (thirteen years ago)
i cant see him getting 39 the rest of the year, it just seems like too much, almost no one plays that much anymore, maybe 35 tho
