two months pass...

would have had mucho respect for Simmons had he run this BEFORE the deer antler story but still, kinda ballsy

frogbs, Friday, 1 February 2013 21:48 (thirteen years ago)

eh don't care about PEDs

manti 乒乓 (k3vin k.), Saturday, 2 February 2013 00:47 (thirteen years ago)

i have no idea what his point was (as usual these days when he tries to be serious)

call all destroyer, Saturday, 2 February 2013 00:51 (thirteen years ago)

his point was fair enough, we're inconsistent in how we judge ppl about PEDs - assholes like lance barry and a-rod are suspect but we don't care about AD or peyty because we like them - i just think talking about PEDs even more than we already do is just asking for a sports world completely devoid of joy. there are better issues to moralize about

manti 乒乓 (k3vin k.), Saturday, 2 February 2013 00:56 (thirteen years ago)

feel like there's no much point in suspecting everyone who is capable of amazing sports accomplishments bc then you might as well stop watching (and his "list" seems to cover everyone who's not a mediocrity.)

christmas candy bar (al leong), Saturday, 2 February 2013 00:59 (thirteen years ago)

- there are two sports guys
- espn sports guy shies away from discussing peds
- old school sports guy wants to discuss them. can we make this happen?
- he thinks ray lewis is a cheater
- he thinks adrian peterson is clean
- what a world, that doubt can be cast upon our noblest performers

mookieproof, Saturday, 2 February 2013 00:59 (thirteen years ago)

he didn't make this point, but dudes who tear their triceps and miss entire seasons are at significant risk of losing their jobs, while dudes who use deer antler spray are apparently rather less so

mookieproof, Saturday, 2 February 2013 01:02 (thirteen years ago)

exactly

manti 乒乓 (k3vin k.), Saturday, 2 February 2013 01:04 (thirteen years ago)

he has a pretty clear point imo. It's that we could enforce stricter or more effective drug testing but we don't want to in part (and this is his main point) the media chooses to overlook the elephant in the room.

ryan, Saturday, 2 February 2013 01:33 (thirteen years ago)

missing a "because" in there

ryan, Saturday, 2 February 2013 01:33 (thirteen years ago)

wait what's the elephant in the room?

(NB i skipped the last third of it)

manti 乒乓 (k3vin k.), Saturday, 2 February 2013 01:34 (thirteen years ago)

that many of the accomplishments and quick recoveries that the sports media likes to hype are phony because of PEDs.

ryan, Saturday, 2 February 2013 01:35 (thirteen years ago)

oh right, that's basically what i said. it's ok when cool ppl do it but bad when assholes do

manti 乒乓 (k3vin k.), Saturday, 2 February 2013 01:36 (thirteen years ago)

tbf the sports media is the fucking worst, elephants or no

mookieproof, Saturday, 2 February 2013 01:41 (thirteen years ago)

he also gets into the grey areas of, like, why is putting a testosterone patch on your testicles this unforgivable sin but cutting-edge performance-enhancing medical techniques is just part of an athlete's life.

i mean if you take the anti-PED thing to it's logical conclusion we'd really never let an athlete come back from surgery.

Clay, Saturday, 2 February 2013 01:42 (thirteen years ago)

I thought Kobe going to Germany to get stem cells was something that should probably be illegal, but what do I know

who knows. maybe Jordan was 'roiding the whole time. hooo boy would that shut some people up

http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/9261768/nba-trade-value-part-3

this is pretty terrible halfway through

'scuse me while i make the sky cum (k3vin k.), Saturday, 11 May 2013 21:59 (thirteen years ago)

he overrates steph altho steph's contract is insane

also always will and always has overrated carmelo

J0rdan S., Saturday, 11 May 2013 22:46 (thirteen years ago)

yeah the melo section is just completely religious. you wouldn't trade melo for cp3 straight up? and his griffin "oh noes his per-game scoring and rebounding averages are down" shit i assumed was beneath him

if steph plays anything like this on that contract #3 is totally defensible tho

'scuse me while i make the sky cum (k3vin k.), Saturday, 11 May 2013 22:50 (thirteen years ago)

he remains otm about harden though

J0rdan S., Saturday, 11 May 2013 23:01 (thirteen years ago)

he didn't quite make a case for why he put westbrook over him though

J0rdan S., Saturday, 11 May 2013 23:01 (thirteen years ago)

i think it's close

'scuse me while i make the sky cum (k3vin k.), Saturday, 11 May 2013 23:03 (thirteen years ago)

it is just shameful that there are people who still apologize for that trade btw. just indefensible on any level

'scuse me while i make the sky cum (k3vin k.), Saturday, 11 May 2013 23:29 (thirteen years ago)

yeah, truly

J0rdan S., Saturday, 11 May 2013 23:31 (thirteen years ago)

i think part of the problem -- in presti's defense -- is that harden was underrated around the league. if the wizards and warriors both turned down offers, they're nuts.

How'd We Fix It: The Lakers

It's actually worse than you would expect an article from him with that title to be.

I'm like a cross between the Wolf, Olivia Pope and Jerry West. Or I like to think that I am.

EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 10 July 2013 21:21 (twelve years ago)

Last week, an L.A. reader named Jake B. even compared him to Tommy Boy, followed by me being unable to figure out if that was a bigger insult to Jimmy Buss or to Tommy Boy.

cool story

christmas candy bar (al leong), Wednesday, 10 July 2013 21:26 (twelve years ago)

Tim Marchman ‏@timmarchman 3h

There are over 50 uses of I, I'm, me, and my in this column. http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/9466869/lakers

mookieproof, Thursday, 11 July 2013 00:04 (twelve years ago)

it's a good article f the haters

k3vin k., Thursday, 11 July 2013 12:53 (twelve years ago)

50 doesn't seem like that many uses for a guy who has always written 1000s of words in the first person

call all destroyer, Thursday, 11 July 2013 12:59 (twelve years ago)

well the point that he makes about the Bucks is definitely true and quite frustrating

PRAISE SIMMONS

J0rdan S., Thursday, 10 October 2013 20:18 (twelve years ago)

magic and wilbon were completely and totally insufferable

J0rdan S., Thursday, 10 October 2013 20:19 (twelve years ago)

Im not a huge fan but he is better than anyone else on that show no doubt. Magic was the worst he can be gone and stay gone faic.

Me & Mahomies (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Thursday, 10 October 2013 20:20 (twelve years ago)

yeah magic and wilbon are terrible

lag∞n, Thursday, 10 October 2013 20:31 (twelve years ago)

Replacing Wilbon with Doris Burke is a huge upgrade imo

polyphonic, Thursday, 10 October 2013 20:38 (twelve years ago)

<3 doris

J0rdan S., Thursday, 10 October 2013 20:41 (twelve years ago)

does that mean less doris doing games tho?

call all destroyer, Thursday, 10 October 2013 20:47 (twelve years ago)

Doris is cool if a little dry but yah big upgrade. Also Doug Collins back is alright.

Me & Mahomies (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Thursday, 10 October 2013 20:51 (twelve years ago)

a good bit would be trolling collins ocd

lag∞n, Thursday, 10 October 2013 20:53 (twelve years ago)
