haha this totally looks like someone using a wordpress theme in like late 2006 to try to emulate mcsweeneys or arts and letters daily

"presented by klondike"

a slight case of joe johnsonitis (agent hibachi), Wednesday, 8 June 2011 17:53 (fifteen years ago)

also footnotes basically suck, it's like extra tldr

you're a professional, professionally put that shit into the body as a point you're trying to make or leave it out, you're not citing academic journals or something

a slight case of joe johnsonitis (agent hibachi), Wednesday, 8 June 2011 17:55 (fifteen years ago)

footnote: they are hilarious when used properly

a slight case of joe johnsonitis (agent hibachi), Wednesday, 8 June 2011 17:55 (fifteen years ago)

the klosterman story was a fun read!

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 8 June 2011 18:01 (fifteen years ago)

re footnotes it maybe has something to do w/the strange phenomenon of dfw becoming an avatar for hack writers harboring pretensions everywhere

ice cr?m, Wednesday, 8 June 2011 18:04 (fifteen years ago)

Grantland is ugly, but it's a shit ton easier to read/look at than Gawker Media's current format.

boots get knocked from here to czechoslovakier (milo z), Wednesday, 8 June 2011 18:17 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah the design is amateurish but I'm not gonna say that bothers me in the least. As long as the articles are easy to read, right? But I agree with the "hard PG-13" comment above, it's like he knew he could use one "fuck" in his column and was just debating where to put it

frogbs, Wednesday, 8 June 2011 18:24 (fifteen years ago)

it looks like yard work! which was when, 2005?

tbh if grantland had rotating banners (including, naturally, BIG BEAR) all would be a-ok here

Willing to bet that Klosterman, not Simmons, is the one that pushed for Carles.

Cunga, Wednesday, 8 June 2011 18:55 (fifteen years ago)

going out on a limb with that

Cunga, Wednesday, 8 June 2011 18:56 (fifteen years ago)

J0rdan S., Thursday, 9 June 2011 03:06 (fifteen years ago)

that's one of the most depressing photos i've ever seen

J0rdan S., Thursday, 9 June 2011 03:06 (fifteen years ago)

i'm way too lazy to dig up all the instances when simmons trashed the bruins, tho i'm sure someone else is on it

J0rdan S., Thursday, 9 June 2011 03:07 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah, he crushed them when they were losing.

polyphonic, Thursday, 9 June 2011 05:14 (fifteen years ago)

well guys tbf his objection to the bruins was always about the fact that ownership didn't spend to the level it could have in the 80s and 90s, and this issue has been made completely irrelevant by the nhl hard cap. so yeah now he's back on the horse but so are a lot of people, it's hockey for chrissakes, it's barely a major sport and lends itself to the bandwagon because the playoff version is so vastly different from/better than the reg season version--essentially he's me with a lot more money.

call all destroyer, Thursday, 9 June 2011 05:24 (fifteen years ago)

THEY TYPED "MAIN BRO" ON THE FRONT PAGE

JUST A VERY COOL & EDGY WEBSITE

NOT THAT I DON'T <3 CARLES BUT

J0rdan S., Friday, 10 June 2011 19:43 (fifteen years ago)

okay that carles article really isn't working for me.

just, like, domesticated carles is no carles at all.

Clay, Friday, 10 June 2011 19:55 (fifteen years ago)

yeah this is just... no

carles poems on the playoffs or no carles at all

J0rdan S., Friday, 10 June 2011 19:58 (fifteen years ago)

That Carles article reminds me of Steve Martin when he wants to be a Serious Writer bro.

Cunga, Friday, 10 June 2011 20:02 (fifteen years ago)

i will say--they are putting up more stuff per day than i have time for, and i love to kill time at work.

I want a hit counter but also midi music playing while I read

Cunga, Friday, 10 June 2011 21:18 (fifteen years ago)

I liked the Carles article. It's fun to see him try to class it up slightly.

polyphonic, Friday, 10 June 2011 21:19 (fifteen years ago)

id be funny if carles slowly morphed into a 'serious writer' w/a 'real career'

ice cr?m, Friday, 10 June 2011 21:31 (fifteen years ago)

guys this website sux stop liking it :(((

hella screens (am0n), Friday, 10 June 2011 21:42 (fifteen years ago)

polyphonic, Friday, 10 June 2011 21:48 (fifteen years ago)

yeah i don't really get the fascination. bunch of shitty writers congealing around bill simmons of all people, whoop-tee-doo.

Clay, Friday, 10 June 2011 21:48 (fifteen years ago)

well a bunch of shitty writers and carles.

Clay, Friday, 10 June 2011 21:49 (fifteen years ago)

I like a lot of the writers I guess.

polyphonic, Friday, 10 June 2011 22:00 (fifteen years ago)

i like carles and molly lambert and sometimes simmons on the nba and prob some of the other writers not totally sure whos who, but mostly i think were approaching this from an 'amateur media criticism and rubbernecking' pov

ice cr?m, Friday, 10 June 2011 22:03 (fifteen years ago)

i get what you're saying there but i think mostly it's like the last thing i want from simmons et al is a reason for them to take themselves really seriously, and this site seems to indulge in that and oh man, no thanks on that.

just write about the nba, bill! i'll take a thousand terrible gm summits to whatever this endeavor is.

Clay, Friday, 10 June 2011 22:06 (fifteen years ago)

it def has the potential to be horribly awful!

ice cr?m, Friday, 10 June 2011 22:10 (fifteen years ago)

i mean there is no way in hell im reading dave eggers on wrigley field or two separate articles on some defunct sports newspaper

ice cr?m, Friday, 10 June 2011 22:11 (fifteen years ago)

i will however agree check out the piece on baldwins twitter :/

ice cr?m, Friday, 10 June 2011 22:12 (fifteen years ago)
