J0rdan S., Sunday, 13 March 2011 23:44 (fifteen years ago)

johnny crunch, Sunday, 13 March 2011 23:45 (fifteen years ago)

duke beating unc in greensboro today also counts

mookieproof, Sunday, 13 March 2011 23:45 (fifteen years ago)

xp i agree, uconn could outdraw sdsu fan-wise in anaheim easily i think

johnny crunch, Sunday, 13 March 2011 23:46 (fifteen years ago)

mookieproof, Sunday, 13 March 2011 23:47 (fifteen years ago)

johnny crunch, Sunday, 13 March 2011 23:49 (fifteen years ago)

the illinois/kansas matchup will be filled w/ bad blood. i'll be in urbana for that game. kansas will win, but bill self can suck it.

john. a resident of chicago., Sunday, 13 March 2011 23:49 (fifteen years ago)

...assuming illinois beats unlv, of course.

Nate has come to the shocking conclusion that all four #1 seeds have the greatest statistical chance of getting to the Final Four. Stunning!

Aimless, Tuesday, 15 March 2011 00:23 (fifteen years ago)

he boldly chose three of the #9 seeds and two of the #10s tho

mookieproof, Tuesday, 15 March 2011 00:26 (fifteen years ago)

I've played a bracket the last five years w/o ever watching the season or researching my picks and I actually won once. This year I picked Syracuse to go all the way. My pick: smart or dumb?

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 15 March 2011 02:50 (fifteen years ago)

Its all a crap shoot.

Jeff, Tuesday, 15 March 2011 02:53 (fifteen years ago)

yea feel like brackets are mostly abt a) luck b) patterns - like it doesnt really matter who you pick as long as you take one 12 over 5 upset etc

ice cr?m, Tuesday, 15 March 2011 02:53 (fifteen years ago)

i had missed this, but a hearty lol goes out to gary williams, whose maryland terrapins were not even invited to the nit.

"I guess there are different reasons why you pick teams, other than based on the ability of the team," Williams said.

As he has earlier this season, Williams suggested that part of that is a result of more effective lobbying.

"Next year, I think we're going to be a very good team, and I'm going to talk a lot about how good we're going to be. The Big East has done that consistently; the Big Ten has done that consistently. The ACC has to do a better job talking about how good its teams are."

the world is always so mean to gary

mookieproof, Tuesday, 15 March 2011 03:09 (fifteen years ago)

Hi dudes!

guess whos blindly doing a bracket this year? Am kind of psyched, followed the tournament last year and got caught up in the excitement, giving it a proper whirl this year to see how I do. (Not a crazy bball fan but I enjoy college hoops well enough)

First lesson: when they say "Oakland" they don't mean OAKLAND

VegemiteGrrl, Tuesday, 15 March 2011 22:30 (fifteen years ago)

Someone should set up an ilx one. Is yahoo the best site?

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 15 March 2011 22:59 (fifteen years ago)

I can do it when I get home

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 15 March 2011 22:59 (fifteen years ago)

I've joined a yahoo one through work, and it's really easy peasy

VegemiteGrrl, Tuesday, 15 March 2011 23:24 (fifteen years ago)

h8 play-in games but that was entertaining tbh

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 16 March 2011 01:22 (fifteen years ago)

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 16 March 2011 01:22 (fifteen years ago)

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 16 March 2011 01:22 (fifteen years ago)

Hand me my shotgun

VegemiteGrrl, Wednesday, 16 March 2011 01:27 (fifteen years ago)

ha

for real tho play-in games are fucking depressing i hate to think about the team that doesn't actually get to make it to the tournament, so fucked up

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 16 March 2011 01:28 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah the concept seems kind of mean and pitying

VegemiteGrrl, Wednesday, 16 March 2011 01:29 (fifteen years ago)

i need someone who understands this shit to explain the expansion to 68 teams to me

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 16 March 2011 01:29 (fifteen years ago)

they want to play as many games as possible because they'll make more money but there was a public outrage over them expanding the field to 96 or whatever they wanted to do so i guess they just settled on 68

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 16 March 2011 01:31 (fifteen years ago)

it doesn't seem to make much sense to me, feel like the ad dollars they make on uab-clemson has to be negligible to the CBS corporation but what do i know

the good thing tho is that it lead to them getting tbs & court tv into the fold so all the games are on TV now, also charles & kenny

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 16 March 2011 01:32 (fifteen years ago)

it feels really arbitrary that two teams will play each other to be #12, while #s 13, 14, 15, and 16 (in two cases anyway) are slotted into the dance.

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 16 March 2011 01:33 (fifteen years ago)

this simmons/chad ford podcast is really cool, talking about all the top prospects (sullinger, kyrie, jimmer, barnes etc) http://espn.go.com/espnradio/player?rd=1#/podcenter/?autoplay=1&callsign=ESPNRADIO&id=6216943

<3 chad ford

yeah i think the problem is that they needed to get better teams into the game aside from "who gets to get blown to pieces by the #1 overall team" but anything over the 12 seed would be punishing some of the better teams -- idk, it's stupid

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 16 March 2011 01:36 (fifteen years ago)

expansion is so classic "wow everyone loves this great thing!! We should make more money off it and make it ridiculously big and make more money and ultimately destroy the thing that everyone loved about it OMG YESSSSS "

VegemiteGrrl, Wednesday, 16 March 2011 01:37 (fifteen years ago)

yeah as far as the casual fan is concerned nothing starts until there's exactly 64, so it punishes these teams even more.

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 16 March 2011 01:40 (fifteen years ago)

no one even bothers incorporating this shit into bracket pools either

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 16 March 2011 01:42 (fifteen years ago)

I know I didn't

VegemiteGrrl, Wednesday, 16 March 2011 01:44 (fifteen years ago)

yeah well they make it tough even if you wanted to--selection on sunday, first game tuesday night, you'd have to be hardcore

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 16 March 2011 01:46 (fifteen years ago)

I am so very not hardcore

VegemiteGrrl, Wednesday, 16 March 2011 01:49 (fifteen years ago)

kyrie irving has been cleared to play o_O

mookieproof, Wednesday, 16 March 2011 02:04 (fifteen years ago)

yeah i saw that -- have to wonder how much impact he'll have tho he hasn't played in what like 3 months? also he only played like 8 games with the team -- idk i think that dude is amazing but we'll see

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 16 March 2011 02:06 (fifteen years ago)

yeah it's hard to say, but it seems unlikely to make them worse anyway

mookieproof, Wednesday, 16 March 2011 02:07 (fifteen years ago)

yeah that's pretty much what i concluded

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 16 March 2011 02:07 (fifteen years ago)

wow uab looks terrible

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 16 March 2011 02:08 (fifteen years ago)

so the winner of this game has to fly to tampa tonight, have a mandatory press conference tomorrow, then play at noon on thursday. smdh

mookieproof, Wednesday, 16 March 2011 02:23 (fifteen years ago)

they deserve it esp if it's UAB

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 16 March 2011 02:24 (fifteen years ago)

they've got a full day with just a presser--that's not really that bad imo

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 16 March 2011 02:30 (fifteen years ago)

would join ilx pool
