lol at "depressingly huge". I KNOW I AM A LOSER OKAY I KNOW

both storms are useful. i never quite got around to wolverine with the strike boosts, tend toward daken for that. juggernaut has a low cost, screen clearing move that helps when you've painted yourself into a corner. I hardly ever use the headbutt.

iron40 has been good for the past week's lightning round runs so leveling him has proven worthwhile.

I'd say my core use character lineups are [iron man 35/storm classic / black widow] [juggernaut / thor / iron man 40]
I'm aspiring to build up magneto, cap, ragnarok and daken but maybe i should go for wolverine instead

Ok I suppose as good a place as any - is terraria fun style good, or spelunky what the hell are you all on about style good? PS3 cheapo is tempting, but I don't want to get pissed at y'all all over again

Wendy Carlos Williams (jjjusten), Thursday, 5 December 2013 05:36 (ten years ago) link

throwing shade on Spelunky? go sit in the corner, j.

juggernaut is useful as a 3rd slotter, just for the high HP tanking. the cheap green ability is incredibly useful.
Daken is kind of useful, but I find him and Bullseye to be to too easily beaten in PVP, moreso than Classic Storm
Astonishing Wolvie is better than I originally thought but I think I need way more ability cards for him to be great

fully leveled Thor/l.60 classic storm/l.45 iron man 40 is my main team right now. got a decent 45 cap and 31 A. Wolverine. all my other scrubs and good for lightning rounds mostly. i do wonder if i should bother go to back and fully level my 1*ers like Venom, Juggs, M. Black Widow who are good for specific cases.
always tempted to sell Loki/The Hood/Ragnarok but they ARE good for the buffed villain lightning rounds
hoping for opportunities to get Grey Suit Widow and X-Force Wolverine cards, only 1 a-piece so far

Nhex, Thursday, 5 December 2013 05:58 (ten years ago) link

also note: fully leveled Iron Man 35 is not really that useful anymore in PVP

Nhex, Thursday, 5 December 2013 05:59 (ten years ago) link

My understanding is that ragnarok is a monster once you get him into level 30 or so
Terraria is the best sandbox game ive played on the ios but if you dont like minecrafty buildemups its not gonna change your mind

i loved terraria (on xbox), and also it made me very sad. seriously, playing it for a long time made me really, really sad. recommended!

Karl Malone, Thursday, 5 December 2013 06:44 (ten years ago) link

apparently maxed out rag and magneto only take 2 red ap for those abilities once you max them out. i can see how that would make them pretty powerful.

lollercoaster of rove (s.clover), Thursday, 5 December 2013 12:50 (ten years ago) link

damn @ last post, holding out for that!

regular wolvie is great for bunches of reasons but don't sleep on the heal: he takes a 100 hp hit and then heals it all that turn. plus you don't have to wait long to reuse him because I THINK his heal also speeds up his recovery time when you're not using him. well I dunno, but Iron Man model 30 takes like 2.5 hrs to get back to full after a normal battle, kinda ditto-ish for Thor. maybe that's because they have higher hp? not that much higher!

yeah I've been surprised at how quickly model 35 Iron Man has receded in importance. big problem is that he soaks up enemy attacks b/c I guess his attacks are just good enough to put him in front all the time

I wish more people would use Bullseye and Hawkeye because low hp chars are easy to knock out in pvp

Euler, Thursday, 5 December 2013 14:20 (ten years ago) link

Also: did you guys decide to drop/avoid any characters on the roster specifically? I sell all my Bullseye and Yelena Belova cards, didn't seem like they were worth the slots. And it seems like they're adding a new character every week or two as it is.

Hoping that Modern Hawkeye is good eventually, I have him almost completely skilled up but not much leveled yet

Nhex, Thursday, 5 December 2013 14:31 (ten years ago) link

I sell all Venom, Daken, Yelena Belova, Bullseye, Hawkeye (both types), Bagman. also sold Hood because it's boring to never get cards for him, plus his abilities take too many ap to run and suck anyway

Euler, Thursday, 5 December 2013 14:40 (ten years ago) link

Bagman Spider-Man was awesome for the story missions, but not so much in PVP. I could see him being a good counter if any really good countdown characters come up. Iron Man Model 40 and Invisible Woman could fit the bill, I guess, but I never got any cards from him in draws

The Hood is really good in boosted tournaments, but crap otherwise. If I had more cards I would level him though, he's a great third teammate for Iron Man Model 40 because his Intimidation ability decreases countdowns

Nhex, Thursday, 5 December 2013 14:50 (ten years ago) link

Classic Hawkeye also very good in Hammer missions, too weak otherwise

Nhex, Thursday, 5 December 2013 14:51 (ten years ago) link

Could probably start a MPQ thread.

How often do you use boosts?

Jeff, Thursday, 5 December 2013 17:45 (ten years ago) link

you're limited to 10 of any, so anytime I have more than 7 I feel free to use one. save the good ones for the tough fights, use all three slots
i find that if you keep to using ~1 per match on average you're generally OK to replenish

Nhex, Thursday, 5 December 2013 18:00 (ten years ago) link

That thorned rose thing is straight bullshit. I keep getting nailed with their special powers, then stunned, then nailed again, repeat until dead. I'm just standing there helpless.

Jeff, Thursday, 5 December 2013 18:52 (ten years ago) link

AVENGERS... STOP FOR A HOT DOG BREAK

brilliant touch IMO

Nhex, Thursday, 5 December 2013 19:23 (ten years ago) link

ha, this just came out for Steam (windows only... thankfully?)

Nhex, Thursday, 5 December 2013 19:25 (ten years ago) link

top level steam download is 100 bucks!

and yeah, we need a thread i think:
Marvel Puzzle Quest Support Group

Anyone play QuizUp? I need some new opponents.

Murgatroid, Thursday, 5 December 2013 20:33 (ten years ago) link

Yeah, I used the e-mail option to register.

Murgatroid, Thursday, 5 December 2013 20:41 (ten years ago) link

ick. and here i was about to start a thread for us to make fake FB accounts just to whore Marvel Puzzle Quest/Infinity Blade/etc. integration bonuses... but nah

Nhex, Thursday, 5 December 2013 20:41 (ten years ago) link

bloodmasque, squeenix's nutty ios vampire rpg/infinitybladesque game where you can photograph your own face and shop it onto the hero is free for the week, prob worth picking up for a few lolz at least

this looks pretty good:
http://brewfiz.com/

hmmm, i might give that a shot! i'd like to play a kairosoft-esque game done by someone else that will do it in a new (hopefully better) way

Karl Malone, Saturday, 14 December 2013 21:22 (ten years ago) link

...and even though it's not kairosoft, there's still an 8 character limit on the name you can give your brewery.

*facepalm* how am i supposed to fit juvenile penis jokes into 8 characters? bonerbrew won't FIT

Karl Malone, Saturday, 14 December 2013 21:43 (ten years ago) link

wait...bonerFiz

ok, i'll carry on

Karl Malone, Saturday, 14 December 2013 21:44 (ten years ago) link

i can confirm that Fiz is a lot of fun! for those of you who enjoyed a kairosoft game or five (game dev story, dungeon village, grand prix story) but wish that they would do something new, this is the game for you. here are a few elements from the game, just to give a feel for it.

once you get going, the game has a nice flow to it. while your team (all of whom you've give names that would make your mother disown you, of course) are making your brew, you're looking at the available markets for a future brew. every market has different preferences. there are dive bars where you can send your cheapass lager, there supermarkets with lots of customer (and lots of competition), and there are fancy places where the customers expect high-end expensive shit. there are also seasonal places where you can reliably unload a ton of brew during certain months. in addition to looking into what the customers like, and their affluence, you can also research your competitors offerings at the same market.

once you've sold beer at a certain market, you have good data to plan your next brew that you'll send there. you can take a look at the history of your sales there, particularly at the quality of the batch that was sold, the price that you sold it at, and how quickly it sold. each batch of beer has an expiration date (usually around 2 months, to start with). you want to set your price at the magic spot where it just barely sells out just before the expiration date. if the price is too high, you won't sell out and some of the beer will expire. if the price is too low, then you'll sell out but your profits won't be as high as they could have been. the magic price point is different every time you make a shipment, because a) the quality of your beer will be different than the last time, and b) the competition may have changed up their offerings at the same market.

there's also all the stuff you'd expect, like being able to upgrade equipment, events (i.e., make at least 85 units of a 700 quality beer by October in order to unlock a new character that you can hire; beer tasting competitions), unlockable recipes, etc etc.

bottom line: kairosoft just got out kairosofted by a mile.

Karl Malone, Sunday, 15 December 2013 17:16 (ten years ago) link

sounds cool. I am so wrapped up in fucking marvel puzzle quest that i don't know about doing anything but.

i.e. i instabought the room 2 and am only intermittently playing.

I'm on the compulsive P&D/MPQ train right now with Tiny Death Star in tow, but you've definitely inspired me to give it a shot when the inevitable crash comes

Nhex, Monday, 16 December 2013 14:56 (ten years ago) link

it == Fiz

Nhex, Monday, 16 December 2013 14:56 (ten years ago) link

anyone play rymskapsel or whatever its called?

great game but sort of frustrating how quickly it ends. like they set up this super system and then it feels like they just gave you a demo of how to play it. couldnt they have made new maps, new challenges, etc etc etc? it really feels like you're just getting started when the game ends.

socki (s1ocki), Monday, 16 December 2013 20:18 (ten years ago) link

yep - i was really into it...for that day. :( i assumed that the three challenges that were displayed at the beginning of the game were the first three, not the ONLY three!

Karl Malone, Monday, 16 December 2013 20:30 (ten years ago) link

totally. it's like inventing the entire mario universe, the physics, the graphics assets, etc and only making one level.

socki (s1ocki), Monday, 16 December 2013 20:40 (ten years ago) link

i guess the intent is that replay value comes from trying to beat your high score and progress to the higher levels. that often works for me as a motivation, but usually only with games with relatively short playthroughs.

Karl Malone, Monday, 16 December 2013 20:46 (ten years ago) link

the game doesnt really seem to encourage that tho

socki (s1ocki), Monday, 16 December 2013 20:55 (ten years ago) link

and there are no higher levels!

socki (s1ocki), Monday, 16 December 2013 20:55 (ten years ago) link

there aren't? i got up to wave 33 (one of the three goals is to reach wave 28), the last time i played, and i just assumed that the waves would keep coming, faster and faster, until you died

Karl Malone, Monday, 16 December 2013 20:57 (ten years ago) link

oh ya. but those are just waves. the layout and everything is always the same.

socki (s1ocki), Monday, 16 December 2013 21:03 (ten years ago) link

feel like it would be cool if there were different monolith powers and they more randomized. or different levels with less resources, or resources in a more difficult to get to place, etc

socki (s1ocki), Monday, 16 December 2013 21:04 (ten years ago) link

so much potential and like i said it basically feels like just a tutorial.

socki (s1ocki), Monday, 16 December 2013 21:04 (ten years ago) link

yep, definitely. although maybe that's because they wanted to disappoint us so that when rymdkapsel TWO comes out in mid-2014 with new levels and monolith powers for only $3.99 we'll jump on it!

Karl Malone, Monday, 16 December 2013 21:11 (ten years ago) link
