I've never played with a gamepad. Got as far as the temple in the original free version. It might feel weird to use a gamepad now.

dl'd the demo to ps3 and have enjoyed it but this kind of precision platforming is mostly out of my touch gaming wheelhouse these days

Just popping in to say that after playing the game pretty steadily lately (since they added the daily challenges to ps3/vita), I have FINALLY got to hell. Feels good (even if i only got to 5-2 because I had no bombs and only two hearts when i entered 5-1). I was so close so many times, so to finally get there is such a relief.

That would be more exciting news if I'd ever gotten further than the third stage (and only rarely, at that) of the original game.

heh, i'm with you. however, i've only played the original game on my mac, using a keyboard. so i'm optimistic that using a real controller will help quite a bit.

did they ever port the improved XBLA/PSN version to Mac? i only played the OG freeware version on Mac

and personally i never made it to the end either, which also dampens my enthusiasm

Never finished it either, but I got to the point where I could reach the temple more often than not. And did get into Hell a couple of times. Dipped back into the original last week actually and I still love it (even though I've forgotten how to make any progress at all). If the soundtrack is by whoever did the first then that'll be enough to convince me to play 2.

No mention of a handheld release though - I quite liked the original on X360 and PC but it was the Vita port which really got its claws into me. Just works so much better as a pick-up-for-10-minutes kind of thing, which never feels right on a full console. Vita port seems unlikely this time round though so I guess I'm going to hold out for a Switch release?

I never got past the first level, lol. I remember getting this as part of the games with gold promotion. I only gave it a few hours attention, but that was enough to realize I suck at games.

I heard Earthnight was inspired by Spelunky but I'm not seeing much similarity. Looks amazing!

definitely - i guess most games don't have such a figurehead developer, but it's really nice to hear a normal-sounding person talk about what's new in the game
