The fact that Steam games cost the same # of units in both dollars and euros is silly. Despite this, I am tempted to buy Civ 4 Complete...played a game of Colonization, the 1994 original, last week, and loved it, and so I'd like to try the modernized version.

That looks pretty slick - i wonder how it plays. Too bad it's DX10 only (no-go for me as an XP dude)
Too bad Medieval ii didn't get a drop - i was thinking of skipping rome and just going straight to that, but since it's the same price as its been all week, i'll wait til the 3rd like a lot of other stuff i'm sitting on. Thinking about darwinia, but i'll probably pass unless somebody jumps up screaming about it
also, any of you holdouts should get SFIV, you punks, that is a crazy good price

xp as a PC gamer nowadays who doesn't have a pad of some sort? i have both the madcatz pad and a PS2 controller adapter setup
hmm... think i'm gonna have to finally bite on the sam and max games... i think i've waited long enough for this deal... but $15! that's more than i've paid for any game on steam
― Nhex, Friday, 1 January 2010 20:15 (thirteen years ago) link
Pad isn't the issue really, it's lag. Bmups on PC have never really worked out for me, just because they're SO timing sensitive (even more than FPS), and I just feel like you can never trust a PC to keep up, cos it's always got other stuff going on in the background. Though to be fair, I haven't tried one for maybe 10 years, and it's potentially something that just isn't an issue like it used to be.
― JimD, Saturday, 2 January 2010 11:07 (thirteen years ago) link
very tempted by Mass Effect for 3.75 euros but 12 gigs! and really I have three other rpgs on DS to play first (DQ 5, Suidoken Tierkreis, TWEWY) + I bought the Civ 4 Complete on sale the other night. Plus I have Medieval II to start sometime this spring also. And there is of course no time for any of this. But when I get back to my 360 in Sept. maybe I'll get Mass Effect for it---seems pretty cheap on it too.
― Euler, Saturday, 2 January 2010 11:35 (thirteen years ago) link
I have the total opposite attitude Jim! I mean, I played virtually every CPS2 release and half the Neogeo fighters emulated on PC, I really don't see a problem. Even SF3 runs pretty much perfectly now. Maybe you've been burned by bad ports from the '90s? The SFIV PC port is actually pretty well handled, performance-wise.
I've already bought enough stuff to last me through at least the first half of 2010... think i'll just wait until next year for Sam and Max. Still saving my gift purchases for Sunday...

final day of the steam sale - they brought back a bunch of the previous dailies
Defense Grid - $2.49L4D2 - $33.49GTA IV - $7.49Torchlight - $4.99Killing Floor - $4.99STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl - $2.00Bioshock - $4.99
once again giving the middle finger to those who bought Torchlight as a weekend deal for $10 a week ago
But there have been so many good deals that haven't even been highlighted on the dailies... so many to sift through right now for my final purchase and gifting. The Witcher is probably the last one I'm realy considering...
(not to mention the awesome GOG.com sale which I would totally be jumping on, but considering I no less than six games on backlog from that site alone, I've sworn it off until I can get some of that done. that sale ends today too!)

is there any exploration in the newer TRs or is it mainly running down a corridor?
― ( X '____' )/ (zappi), Friday, 31 December 2021 14:33 (one year ago) link
They borrow heavily from Uncharted, so it’s pretty on rails at times. I think usually the first time you go through an area it’s fairly scripted, but then they open world it afterwards so side quests and stuff feel more free. Like, they give a good illusion of exploration.
― Dan I., Friday, 31 December 2021 15:58 (one year ago) link
The second at least* has a couple of big open areas (the size of four or five of the other levels) that you can wander around in - you have plot beacons that tell you where to go next so that frees the developers up to make it looser.
*can't remember the first, haven't played the third yet.
