i just played uncharted 2 online in death match mode. this is the first time i have ever played video games online vs. other people. i was pretty bad at it, but i like that you're working in teams so your team can still win even if you're awful.

congratulations (n/a), Wednesday, 11 November 2009 20:11 (ten years ago) link

it's fun

we should play co-op sometime

banned, on the run (s1ocki), Wednesday, 11 November 2009 20:13 (ten years ago) link

i think i added you as a friend. i have two friends now.

i'm assuming that the online mode for uncharted 2 is less "intense" than shit like modern warfare or whatever? i muted everyone so if people were calling me a fag i'm none the wiser.

here are games that i would like to get, based on stuff i've read:

bioshock
mlb '09 (worried i might get frustrated with this but still looks fun)
skate
orange box

windy = white, carl = black (polyphonic), Wednesday, 11 November 2009 20:42 (ten years ago) link

mlb 09 is pretty awesome - just time intensive - something I had a little of this summer, but definitely not now - orange box is fun - I'll play team fortress 2 on that if you get that - the GTA games are fun. when buddies stop by to play something, they tend to like the cheap scares of dead space (which is now cheap in price) and the fun of street fighter 4 and little big planet - if you get those used, you won't be disappointed. I have a feeling once some of my friends spend some time with uncharted, borderlands and batman, they won't want to play LBP anymore. for a good racer, I'd suggest Grid - the 2k games basketball and ea hockey games are dope too, esp. with a crowd either local or online

Wipeout HD is everything I've ever wanted in a racing game.

windy = white, carl = black (polyphonic), Wednesday, 11 November 2009 20:51 (ten years ago) link

i traded in my ds and games and got skate and orange box for cheap and i still have a bunch of credit left over. i like uncharted 2 and FPS games but they can be kind of stressful, i wanted something like skate where you can just cruise around and relax.

trine is... ok. played it once, never felt the urge to go back.

If Planes Could Fly This Place Would Be an Airport (s1ocki), Wednesday, 11 November 2009 23:37 (ten years ago) link

Trine is pretty good, but I haven't gotten to the last level (which is widely alleged to be a bucket of nutsacks) yet. I gameshared it tho, so it was only ~6 bucks.

<3 The Show and Skate even if the learning curve on both is damn near vertical. Demon's Souls is simultaneously palpably essential and emphatically not for everyone (this is part of what makes it great); make sure you at least give it a rent. Valkyiria Chronicles is both a mindfuckingly gigantic ton of fun and be purty. the PSN will send you to the poorhouse; start off with Warhawk, Crash Commando, Wipeout HD, Critter Crunch, Inferno Pool, Pixeljunk Monsters (motherfuk Eden, this is The One), Flower, Shatter, Uno, and probably some others. also biggest protip ever: spend $5 and get a set of those trigger clips for your controller.

if you're looking for racing games, I would go for Motorstorm: Pacific Rift before anything else, even Wipeout HD or Burnout Paradise (both of which I love dearly); it occupies the precise midpoint between the former's unchecked HD arcade craziness and the latter's sprawling openness, and then tops both of them with some of the best uses of vehicle classes in gaming history. I think it's cheap now too.

okamadablobisney (jamescobo), Thursday, 12 November 2009 04:00 (ten years ago) link

ha i don't think i've played a racing game since the days of the C64, the idea just isn't very interesting to me. maybe i'll try wipeout though since everyone loves it

played around with skate a little bit yesterday, the controls are confusing at first but it seems like it'll be awesome once they get more intuitive

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 12 November 2009 14:06 (ten years ago) link

Where the hell do you get those trigger clips? On Ebay everyone selling them is either in the UK or Australia. Am I just searching wrong?

Oh wait were you using the DS3 wired instead of wireless? I guess it's probably easier that way but it'd be a step backwards from what I'm using already.

JimD, Monday, 9 February 2015 12:01 (four years ago) link

Yeah I'm using it wired. Baby steps. I probably should get a BT dongle and try that but not yet. It hasn't been completely chill. DS3Tool doesn't work sometimes but all I have to do is restart and it seems to fix things.

Question: does anyone know if there's a way to download the actual files for P.T. before it's deleted from the PSN store for people who don't yet have a PS4? I'd really like to download it to a USB drive or something as I was planning on picking up a PS4 sometime late this year. It seems asinine to not just cancel the project but scrub a widely-admired demo from the internet...

You guys are caterpillar (Telephone thing), Monday, 27 April 2015 15:40 (four years ago) link

I don't know for sure how it will work in this case, but usually when a game is removed from PSN they still keep a copy up on the servers for people who previously bought the game so they can redownload it. So you can go to the PSN web store and "buy" the demo & checkout without owning a PS4, and this should tie a license to "redownload" the demo in the future to your PSN account. Of course Konami may want to wipe the existence of the game entirely and insist that no redownloads are allowed, and as no money has changed hands maybe the rules governing this may differ, but I doubt it.

( X '____' )/ (zappi), Monday, 27 April 2015 15:53 (four years ago) link

Thanks for reminding me, I went and checked it out.

Nhex, Monday, 27 April 2015 15:59 (four years ago) link

once you "buy" it, you should be able to redownload it whenever you want from your "purchase history" later on

Nhex, Monday, 27 April 2015 15:59 (four years ago) link

OK, cool. I was hoping that was the case and did it yesterday when this whole clusterfuck was announced, but I wasn't sure if it would stick around if I hadn't downloaded it once already. We'll see, I guess.

You guys are caterpillar (Telephone thing), Monday, 27 April 2015 16:13 (four years ago) link

It's kind of wild, looking back, that there was a (terrible, I assume?) trilogy of reboot Spyro games in 2006-2008, with Elijah Wood as Spyro, various voices as Sparx (David Spade! Billy West!), various voices as the villain-turned-friend Cynder (Cree Summer! Mae Whitman! Christina Ricci!!!), Gary Oldman and Mark Hamill.

Andrew Farrell, Tuesday, 14 January 2020 00:40 (one week ago) link

Swilling Ambergris, Esq. (silby), Tuesday, 14 January 2020 00:43 (one week ago) link

After getting through the Burned Lands and the Floating Islands, Spyro and Cynder arrive at Malefor's Lair and confront him. Malefor taunts Spyro by telling him that the destiny of all purple dragons is to bring about the world's destruction, to which Spyro denies. During the confrontation, the evil dragon releases the green chain that tethered Spyro and Cynder together throughout their trials, then corrupts Cynder back to his cause. Cynder attacks Spyro, only to break free from Malefor's control when Spyro refused to fight and stated that he has left Cynder nothing to fight for. Angered by this turn of events, Malefor binds Spyro and Cynder together once again to kill them both before beginning their battle airborne. As Spyro and Cynder fly after Malefor, the Destroyer completes its circle, marking the end of the world. The three dragons fall into the volcano the Destroyer had entered, and after fighting with Malefor, Spyro and Cynder plummet into the center of the earth as they continue their battle. Malefor proclaimed that he is eternal, unable to be defeated, but is then sealed away in the world's core by the spirits of the Ancestors. Despite Malefor's defeat, the world is still falling apart. As Spyro and Cynder wonder if this is indeed the end, Ignitus' spirit returns and gives Spyro hope. With the chain that bound them together broken with Malefor's defeat, Spyro tells Cynder to flee while he stops the catastrophe, but she refuses to leave him. As Spyro prepares to unleash a powerful Fury wave, Cynder verbally reveals that she loves him. The world is rebuilt by Spyro's magic, and we last see the remaining Guardians, Hunter, Sparx, and the survivors emerging from underground into the setting sun as stars in the sky formed into the figure of a dragon.
