and if you press buttons you eat random ultra

cozen, Wednesday, 12 May 2010 20:19 (fourteen years ago) link

I think like having a game plan all the time is the final frontier of being good at this game

For now I'm just trying to not instinctively throw people when they whiff a reversal that I could probably punish with a 5 hit combo if I made the effort

sorry if I sound bitter it's cos I am ;_;

anyway knowing what button to press when and waiting for tht moment is called "footsies" where I come from plus I don't never walk back :P

me vs dhalsim; you'll see I press buttons more often in this one nhex :P

I got some better matches tonight and will upload them in better quality next time. maybe replete w/DSP whiny commentary

cozen, Wednesday, 12 May 2010 21:49 (fourteen years ago) link

Wasn't fronting, coz, just couldn't help but notice that after your comment about not pressing buttons which sounded like you're taking the defensive nature of the game a little too much to heart. but you didn't do much of that in the last match. Looking forward to more videos!

Just from the matches i've observed over the streams, it seems like they've toned down Ultras in general, so they're still decent comeback options but don't do as much damage as they used to across the board?

mpx4a: i still often have a hard time fighting the instinct/impulse to punish with throws instead of launching a combo often, especially in the heat of the moment and online, where slightly mistiming that punch after a whiffed SRK means you knocked them out of the air instead of nailing a ground chain

Nhex, Thursday, 13 May 2010 00:50 (fourteen years ago) link

Yeah, I think that was probably what caused the habit with me; worst case scenario is you get sudden lag and you punish a whiffed fierce shoryuken by...getting hit by a second fierce shoryuken

me vs. deejay; got the quality sorted out

the thing I suck at with these games is being able to size up the opponent and read his moves. my offense is always pretty good, but my defense is terrible. by these games, I mean SSFIV and Soul Calibur (my favorite fighting game).

lol sorry tht was meant for shmups thread ^^;

yup, gameinn is no.1 on PSN and xbl; it's funny how in some of the replays of his up on youtube you can almost see the input lag affecting daigo's usually very tight execution

Doesn't seem like the best idea - I guess it'll be okay if you can fight people who have the other characters online, but not pick them yourself if you opt not to purchase the extra stuff, kind of like they did with the costumes. 35 characters is already so many though, not sure what the game needs is more. Also I need to find the time to start playing this. Also want a PC version.

Jeff LeVine, Tuesday, 25 May 2010 17:50 (thirteen years ago) link

that Fei comeback at the end of the video was pretty nice, a lot of patience and cool with that player

it'll be interesting to see Capcom's excuses if they do DLC, considering how much they talked about why they couldn't do it for vanilla - but if they do it they way you said (so they don't split the playerbase) it could work

Pretty nice, Inthul had just completely worn him down mentally by that last match. I watched the other Inthul vids posted by FrameAdvantage yesterday, it really was fascinating to see a Fei Long do that well, let alone it being a pad guy! Really impressive, esp. how often he nailed the EX command grab or the close HP, HK Flame kick FADC into HK chicken wing combo. Hell, just how well he used the chicken wing all the time, even using it to crossup. He also beat Wolf Krone, the really good pad-using C.Viper who did well at Midwest.

In that Guy fight, surprised if that was actually Daigo and not his friend or something there - a few sloppy things, especially with the focus vs. crossup, never dashing out of focus, a few dropped combos

cozen, Sunday, 30 May 2010 16:44 (thirteen years ago) link

jeff, did you pick up super or are you waiting for the PC port?

cozen, Sunday, 30 May 2010 16:58 (thirteen years ago) link

I got the 360 version, but I've just barely played it (for some reason). Definitely keep meaing to get more into it, but there has just been other games I've wanted to play more. I think I've actually played more Super Turbo in MAME/GGPO than SSFIV since it came out - LOL.

Jeff LeVine, Sunday, 30 May 2010 17:18 (thirteen years ago) link

Man those are some of the worst, most annoying commentators I've ever heard. I wish more tourneys would think about getting people who have a little bit of professionalism or mic experience to do these things. The guys for this NorCal tourney though, too loud, too easily impressed, etc. - 90% of their comments were "he does THIS because he's SO GOOD", distracting from the match. It's understandable to get excited about points in the match but they were screaming almost every round at any Ultra that hit, even the guesses/trades. Kind of hilarious how everyone there was in the bag for Lamerboi, though, as a local I guess? Good perf by both, though Justin was sloppier than usual for the first couple of matches.

Major lols at that ragequit - Buktooth's Fuerte was really good!

Nhex, Sunday, 30 May 2010 19:21 (thirteen years ago) link

I don't mind magus1234 all that much, mostly cos he seems like a cool enough dude; I'm not sure how SFIV commentary done strait wd be really tho I guess seth k*ll*an kinda did just that at the world exhibition matches last year

I like chris hu as well, mostly cos his broken english is p.funny; the only commentator I find roundly objectionable is arturo

Whoah a girl

MPx4A, Sunday, 30 May 2010 19:41 (thirteen years ago) link

lol yeah they're all sausagefests

Hu I find a little annoying. I'm a little ashamed to say it as an AA myself but his accent is just too thick. But at the very least he totally knows what he's talking about and is usually having fun with it that, carries to the broadcast. One guy I'm getting tired of seeing, though, is Skisonic. He's not terrible but I keep hoping they'll get someone better.

k*ll*an was perfect IMO. Ideally I think it should be split in a typical wrestling style, one technical/mostly straight narrator and one color commentator. Most of the time though it's emotional reactions and tiny bits of tech/psychological talk, which frankly is what I want to hear more than "OHHH MY GOD!" screamed at the top of someone's lungs for 10 minutes straight. That's what the crowd is for, NOT the commentators.

Nhex, Sunday, 30 May 2010 20:00 (thirteen years ago) link

Just played about an hour of Super arcade mode (hard, offline) & reminded myself that the game is so solid. But also reminded myself why I've yet to play it more, as it just feels so much like the game I played the hell out of last year... a game I really don't want to play online against strangers too much anymore either.
