11 and 10 years old this year, respectively! which of the classic sega arcade racers do YOU prefer?

sega rally's pace is a bit frenzied to really enjoy while you play it. (you can always tell someone's good at it because they float serenely around the track like they're not even trying, I never got a handle on how to do that.) daytona, on the other hand, is a much more considered pace, so you can actually think during a race, and consequently get in position to ease your best friend off into the wall on the final corner of the advanced circuit and fly past, cackling. is there a better feeling?

You've just put into words exactly what I like about Daytona over Sega Rally. Both games I find insanely hard though - I don't know how anyone could get good at them.

Also, on Sega Rally, does your co-driver (?) who shouts "medium left" "hairpin!" sometimes say "hard right, maybe"? If he doesn't, I have no idea what he's saying. Surely he should know how tough the curve is from the previous lap!

The top of this thread would look ace if the image code had worked! Is it possible a kind mod could fix it, just to put my overly-anal mind at rest?

sega rally, i love that game so much. I really love how it is only a few incredibly designed tracks, two cars (+ the secret Stratos) and was all about spending hours to shave 1/100th of a second off yr time. I came 5th in a competition for it once through a sega saturn magazine. Oh and i'm almost certain that the co-driver does indeed say maybe. good times.

Waaay look at it! It's like having an arcade on ILX.

I reckon the co-driver's "maybe" call is there to leave the speed to your discretion - it's a hard right, but you absolutely nail the corner and you can get through there a bit quicker than suggested. maybe.

Oh, quite possibly! I'm not actually good enough at Sega Rally to make it around any corners at any speed. Perhaps I might have a bit of a practise tonight if I finish Ico.

sega rally is a great racer, one of the few I've genuinely enjoyed; played the original cabinet again recently vs. my girlfriend and had as much fun as ever slamming the brakes

I saw a copy languishing for 99p the other day in gamestation; I'd love one of the cabinets in my house

i was the tits at sega rally on the saturn, i thought this game pissed all over playstations ridge racer incidentally.

i still have mine set up in my bedroom, the sequel on dreamcast sucked ass.

i hated daytona it was like driving boxes around on railway tracks.

Btw, both these games are now as close to perfectly emulated as you can probably get via ElSemi's Model 2 Emulator (including wheel and force feedback support).

Great Scott! It's Molecular Man. (Ste), Sunday, 25 October 2009 10:35 (fourteen years ago) link

SSF is a pretty good Saturn emulator, but the arcade versions are so much better anyway
