Would you recommend a new X-Box for anything other than paid gaming?

I actually only need an X-Box controller, but given how an actual X-Box S isn't that much more, I'm foolishly thinking of getting an X-Box, but having no desire to participate in its vast commercial ecosystem.

I've seen videos of people using the browser to simulate an office365 based work machine. Apparently if you get a dev account, you can turn it into an emulation monster. It's apparently also very good at transcoding surround sound for older AV boxes for cheap home theaters.

How about you? How is your non-paid-gaming X-box experience?

Get a Steam Deck instead, I'd say. You can run Windows or Linux on them without much effort. You can use an Xbox controller with it. You can output to a monitor/tv if you don't want to do handheld.

As an emulation box: incredible. Have the entire NTSC ps2 library working flawlessly at 4K 60fps for most games. Such a joy. So easy to set up as well
