psyched for Mario Golf!

and i've never spent much time with Splatoon, but might be tempted to dive in with 3 next year

Zach_TBD (Karl Malone), Thursday, 18 February 2021 00:18 (three years ago) link

Splatoon 2 has been getting great discounts this past few months if you caught 'em ($28 from GameStop on BF! amazing for a first-party Nintendo title), this might've had something to do with it

Nhex, Thursday, 18 February 2021 00:21 (three years ago) link

interested to see how much new it brings to the table, nintendo doesnt usually double up on multiplayer games in a console generation but i guess splatoon is too popular to not refresh

ciderpress, Thursday, 18 February 2021 00:27 (three years ago) link

i still havent played the dlc campaign for 2 despite hearing great things about it

ciderpress, Thursday, 18 February 2021 00:28 (three years ago) link

Huh, why did they skip Twilight Princess?
Ugh I just need to find an old Wii for cheap

― Nhex, Wednesday, February 17, 2021 7:17 PM (eleven minutes ago) bookmarkflaglink

they already did that one on wii u, will hopefully show up in a bundle at some point like they did with the marios

ciderpress, Thursday, 18 February 2021 00:31 (three years ago) link

Yeah Skyward Sword is the last 3D Zelda with no forward-porting at all. I suspect we’ll get Ocarina and Majora HD at some point too, and then maybe Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD will finally come to switch.

Canon in Deez (silby), Thursday, 18 February 2021 00:42 (three years ago) link

oh yeah, i totally forgot that was on Wii U. surprisingly, Wii U's are not as cheap to acquire as one might hope

Nhex, Thursday, 18 February 2021 02:22 (three years ago) link

well they only made 10 of them

lag∞n, Thursday, 18 February 2021 02:26 (three years ago) link

Never played SS the first time round so i might give it a crack.

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Thursday, 18 February 2021 03:31 (three years ago) link

WW I'm not so fussed about, as I have a WiiU so I have the HD port they already did.

Occarina would be nice, the 3DS version is hard to play o such a small screen (I hate the way the camera focus works in it too)

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Thursday, 18 February 2021 03:31 (three years ago) link

woah, just catching up and so many games I want to buy :O
can't believe they are localizing Famicom Detective Club games
Octopath Tactics looks amazing

i got my kids all pumped up for the splatoon 3 trailer - they're big splatoon fans - and they were getting more and more hyped as it played and then at the end in big red numbers: 2022 which is like 100 years away when you're six years old

na (NA), Thursday, 18 February 2021 14:26 (three years ago) link

I thought the direct was supposed to be about stuff in the first half of 2021?

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 18 February 2021 14:33 (three years ago) link

they always say that to temper expectations and then show some further off stuff anyway

ciderpress, Thursday, 18 February 2021 14:45 (three years ago) link

I've only played Splatoon 2 a tiny bit, since I don't have online, and it was fun, but boy, Splatoon 3 being the thing "further away" to look forward to really does temper my exceptions even more, since I don't want it or pretty much anything else teased or announced. Which is fine, because I have plenty of games to play as it is, but still sort of innately disappointing, since I do like my Switch but have already been let down by a pretty uninspiring slate the last year or so. It's all about the indies for me, as usual.

Canon in Deez (silby), Thursday, 18 February 2021 15:50 (three years ago) link

I’m gonna try one of those Famicom Detective games

Canon in Deez (silby), Thursday, 18 February 2021 15:50 (three years ago) link

yeah i love detective adventure games i'll surely play those

ciderpress, Thursday, 18 February 2021 15:54 (three years ago) link

same

Nhex, Thursday, 18 February 2021 17:42 (three years ago) link

Isn't that what Return of the Obra Dinn is? Thoughts? Do games like this have any replay value?

Evan, Thursday, 18 February 2021 19:37 (three years ago) link

only after a traumatic brain injury probably

Canon in Deez (silby), Thursday, 18 February 2021 19:44 (three years ago) link

Seems very feasible to invent a roguelite detective game

Evan, Thursday, 18 February 2021 19:50 (three years ago) link

dunno if it would be any fun though, sounds like those encyclopedia brown challenges where you should've realized that one kid was shorter than the other so he couldn't have reached the top counter except that is completely impossible to guess.

That's not really my scene (I'm 41) (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 18 February 2021 19:53 (three years ago) link

all i want is a new Wario Ware game. Or hell, ports of the old ones.

Piven After Midnight (The Yellow Kid), Thursday, 18 February 2021 19:59 (three years ago) link

xp obra dinn is a detective game that makes you do all the detective work yourself rather than follow a fictional protagonist who solves the big picture while you're only asked to figure out individual steps e.g. ace attorney or danganronpa or most of these games really. dunno where famicom detective club lands on the spectrum but guessing the latter

ciderpress, Thursday, 18 February 2021 20:03 (three years ago) link

obra dinn is the best but you don't play it twice

That's not really my scene (I'm 41) (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 18 February 2021 20:04 (three years ago) link

There's probably a right way to do it- all sorts of variables can be creatively handled. All hypothetical of course and I'm not going to task anyone with figuring it all out here. Just feels like the conditions that dictate unique "seeds" in roguelites could conceivably be applied to detective grenre if programmed cleverly.

xps

Evan, Thursday, 18 February 2021 20:07 (three years ago) link

outer wilds is the former too. a 20 minute game that takes 10-20 hours of exploration/research to figure out how to beat

ciderpress, Thursday, 18 February 2021 20:09 (three years ago) link

obra dinn is the best but you don't play it twice

I'm planning to replay it sometime to get the Captain Did It achievement

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Thursday, 18 February 2021 20:14 (three years ago) link

kinda love that, also kinda not sure if he's being a parody of Nintendo fans or actually is that angry

Nhex, Friday, 19 February 2021 04:10 (three years ago) link

Dunkey is Josh confirmed.

Andrew Farrell, Friday, 19 February 2021 11:27 (three years ago) link

I don't think he's that angry for real. Fwiw, I think his previous two videos were nothing but effusive praise for Super Mario 3D World and Bowser's Fury, the latter of which he called his presumptive game of the year, which might have actually been serious.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 19 February 2021 13:54 (three years ago) link

you seem to know an awful lot about his video history, almost as if ... Andrew is on to something lol

( X '____' )/ (zappi), Friday, 19 February 2021 14:03 (three years ago) link

Almost as if I saw the latest one yesterday and thought, oh shit, I missed his last two, which were right next to it and which I watched right after, lol.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 19 February 2021 14:16 (three years ago) link

But yes, I'm also Dunkey.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 19 February 2021 14:25 (three years ago) link

japanese people must really love those japanese rpgs

lag∞n, Friday, 19 February 2021 14:48 (three years ago) link

They just call them "rpgs."

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 19 February 2021 14:51 (three years ago) link

i think japanese people all like american games now and vice versa

ciderpress, Friday, 19 February 2021 14:52 (three years ago) link

that was supposed to be some sort of comedy joke but it came out just sounding defensive

ciderpress, Friday, 19 February 2021 14:59 (three years ago) link

i will probably play the square triangle octagon project tbrr

eisimpleir (crüt), Friday, 19 February 2021 15:00 (three years ago) link

surely this time they will change the name...?

ciderpress, Friday, 19 February 2021 15:09 (three years ago) link

Seems unlikely

Canon in Deez (silby), Friday, 19 February 2021 15:24 (three years ago) link

Triangapath Traveler

Evan, Friday, 19 February 2021 15:25 (three years ago) link

Looks enough like final fantasy tactics, possibly my fave game of all time, that I will likely buy it and perhaps not play it.

Mario 3D world has been enjoyable but not immersive fro me. I may be broken.

That's not really my scene (I'm 41) (forksclovetofu), Friday, 19 February 2021 16:35 (three years ago) link

its not really supposed to be immersive like odyssey, its diorama style (except mauybe the new bowsers fury thing)

ciderpress, Friday, 19 February 2021 16:42 (three years ago) link

recommend going straight into bowsers fiery maw it rules

adam, Friday, 19 February 2021 16:55 (three years ago) link

may do that

That's not really my scene (I'm 41) (forksclovetofu), Friday, 19 February 2021 16:57 (three years ago) link

my favorite thing in 3D World has been to play as cat suit Peach in 1-1, run to the top of the ramp near the beginning, run and jump off of it, float and then cat-dive directly into the clear pipe, then run back and do it again. kind of an immersive experience in the sense that it makes me feel like a kid at a playground
