when you have to go through every single combination to get something to work, it's no longer a puzzle, it's a chore.
meh, gameplay-wise these things are always pretty much trial and error, even if there's a post-hoc explanation. why did i have to use the knife to cut away the plug socket? pretty sure the screwdriver would have done the job.
now stuck with the magnet (or lack of).

I dunno. I've found most of the solutions in this one pretty sensible so far.
There was one a while back where you had to go outside and look at roman numerals on a windmill that I *never* would've finished without a walkthrough.

finding that section of the floorboard was a little hit and miss, and then what you had to do with it didn't make a whole load of sense.
is the box with a tube in some sort of uv light?
anyway i gave up, the panel locks were doing my head in.

How does it work, snoball?

You need to adjust the sliders so that the radio makes five high tones in a row. But it's not "one slider controls one tone", because the slider settings interact with each other. So you'll get the first tone to be high, adjust the sliders for the second, but then the first tone will be low again.
snoball, you need sound on for that to be less chorish.(...)― The controls are janky (Will M.), Tuesday, 11 August 2009 23:50 (Yesterday) Bookmark Suggest Ban Permalink
Yah I know - but there seems to be no apparent logical relationship between slider settings and tones produced. So the only option is to either find a walkthrough that explains what that logical relationship is (which defeats the point of the puzzle in the first place) or laboriously go through 5 ^ 7 slider combinations. I mean, if I wanted a small box that makes noises that I can't control, I'll buy an eff-ing Buddha Box...

And the more I think about it, the more these "room escape" games seem to be a nth degree extension of the "you can destroy a tank with a bazooka that somehow manages to fold up in your pocket whenever you're using another weapon, but you can't jump over a waist high picket fence" FPS tropes.

?? didn't work like that for me at all. one position = high tone, for each slider. that's it.
― ledge, Wednesday, 12 August 2009 09:35 (sixteen years ago)
Ah, just tried it again today and it's working properly.

that building blaster was sorta fun, but a little miffed on one of the levels which I completely destroyed yellow blocks to the point of complete obliteration and left the pink tower standing but it still wouldn't give me a success.
