Thinking about something like RDR2 - maybe the maps are bigger (maybe?) but that game feels really sparse and empty compared to this game, and that came on two Blu Ray discs plus an additional approx 30 minutes of downloading!

RDR2 had detailed horse balls TOTK has some environment textures that wouldn't look out of place on the gamecube

i've tried to avoid a lot of videos of stuff like people building crazy contraptions but is there any way to actually steer the "cars" that you can build? i haven't done too much with it yet because it doesn't seem that practical in terms of getting around. it seems more like a fun creative minigame that is separate from the main game.

i guess instead of asking that i should play around with it

yeah there is a steering wheel attachment. haven't found any in the gacha machines yet but i've found a few laying around in the early game. there's one by the lake in the stable near lookout landing

i think things dont show up in the machines until you build with ones youve found, not 100% on that but it seems like it

i def got a couple of zonai devices from the machines that i hadn't yet encountered

I’m sure there are other examples of underground areas like this but it’s really hard not to think about the parallels with the underground areas in Elden Ring

then might see if there's anything going on in the Lost Woods

I'm stuck on the spinning cloud over Rito. I'm halfway up, but after shrine #2 theres all those bouncy bed ships and I get yea-high then cant reach any further ships :( I'll keep at it, I refuse to look stuff up like I ususally do.

Also I did a shrine with a giant jenga puzzle.

Some of the shrine puzzles are absolute brain busters.

As much as I am not super into the fire temple I do really love the way the temple music builds from sparse and mildly menacing to more complex and triumphant as you progress. Makes it less of a slog, like, hey now that I've done 2/5 things there's a fun jazzy riff in the mix, what will I get next?

From what little I've spoiled for myself about this game, it looks kinda ... hard.

The enemies seem to hit harder! Or maybe it's just cos I'm back to few hearts. They seem to stagger me more too.

I encountered this huge boss in the sky called a Flux Construct boss. Saw him chaging fecking shape and shooting out lasers and noped out as I had NO idea how to fight him let alone beat him.

Trayce, I was confused too. You need to jump into the portal.

I’ve been experimenting with beating bosses using devices. My favorite is the simplest: add 20 beam emitters to a hover stone, put the hover stone in the air, attack the boss, then hit the stone with an arrow. It’ll instantly delete everything.

Now that I write this I’m going to try just putting 20 beam emitters on the trolly device and pushing it into the boss room.

i'm so dumb about the machines. i did almost the whole shrine that introduces you to big wheels before realizing that you can hit them to make them roll. i accomplished like 75% of the shrine just with the "move with infinite hand, reverse with time reverse" trick.

I've done the same with forgetting to use ascend. I was in the depths climbing this mushroomy tree, thinking "how could I possibly get right on top of it?" then facpalming myself.

Best LOL moment from my weekend of loads of play:
going after the autobuild, and discovering the whole shebang was guarded by MASTER KOGHA. So THATS what happened after he fell in the hole! I LOVED that bit of lore followup.

In the subsequent travels, I assembled a glider with fans and steering column and glided toward a distant lighroot, tried my best to aim at it, but smacked into it nose-first. Well, needs must.

For fuck's sake, I totally forgot about ascend.

BTW: is it just me, or does it rain a HELL of a lot more in this game?

i haven't noticed more rain, but i have noticed more frequent blood moons

I'm not sure about the rain, but I like that they give you gear & consumables to let you climb in it. I've gotten once piece of the frog suit so far.

haven't needed to use sticky solution yet, but hope it allows you to not fall when your stamina runs out

Sticky solution works ok, but Ive only made it at one level, it just made me go further but I'd still slip.

Does nothing for stamina.

Question for anyone who has it or knows - this magic scepter I found. It seems like a once off. Will it break? Am I meant to use it just to shoot spells and not hit anyone (in which case, will it break?).

Rains just as much too but at least you can get around that now

The sceptres/wands/staves will break, but there are ways to get more. It's better to just fuse them with gems and shoot magic rather than bashing enemies with them. Either way they'll break eventually.

The wand system is pretty sick in this game imo

Are all the chasms linked? Or are they separate?

I'm assuming the entire depths is the same area as surface map, but down below? Hving not explored it much I couldn't say for sure but its what I've assumed.

I’ve found radishes, albeit very sparingly. I think durians are gone.

Theyre certainly not where they used to be in the cliffs just above Lakeside Stable.

Oh which reminds me - its weird seeing the dragons just idly surfind round in the sky now. They dont seem to dip down like they used to. Ive been able to surf near one on the way down from a sky archipelago, and when you get close they do still trigger the music and the updraft, and you *can* still shoot scales/horns etc off them.

Yeah I shot a scale off one within the first couple of days, but - get this - that was UNDERGROUND. First time I leapt into a chasm was at Kakariko and Naydra was just gliding around down there. Blew my mind re: the scale.

I had a similar experience where I was in the Depths but I heard the distinctive, lovely dragon music before I saw anything. I was so surprised! Then I looked up and saw one of them just working their way up thru a Chasm.

A note on the Depths/Chasms: the geography is the inverse of the surface. Mountains are valleys, bodies of water are walls. Also the lightroots/shrines correspond to one another.

I’ve found a couple of shrines that don’t have light roots and vice versa.
