The WaPo guy in that tweet claimed to have cruised straight through the main story, and *that* is what took him 60 hours.

played it for about 5 hours so far still in the starting area and feel like i missed a bunch of shit AMA

hiding vague negativity behind spoilers and maybe just wait a year for the shine to wear off but something annoying happened that showed me my main hangup with BOTW (utterly busted cost/reward balance) is probably not really addressed at all and might be worse, and i'm already sour about it... shouldn't have played BOTW right before this cause all my complaints are still fresh

played for a few hours on the plane. it’s just as mesmerizing as breath but i feel a little intimidated by the sheer amount of possibilities lol

I just started Elden Ring (6 hours in, still in Stormveil, getting mauled by dudes on horseback), but this game gets here tonight - feels like between those two I have enough gaming to last me the next two years now

i finished the opening section and checked out the changes in hyrule a bit i love the new town in front of the castle its very cute

So apparently I'm not the only one who saw goatse in certain locations (according to reddit) and now you can't unsee it either thank u yr welcom.

That aside I havent got far in yet - didnt get a chance to get into it til late afternoon because the whole household insisted on watching the opening cutscene. I'm stuggling a lot with the fuse mechanics, I dont know if its just me but the rotation is annoying the piss out of me.

Also how the fuck do you steer a raft with a fan?

I kinda like ULTRAHAND, the rotation stuff clicked after a bit and it feels easier than manipulating similar things was with magnesis.

Also I feel super limited because I am so used to parasailing and stasis-ing constantly to find stuff

On that raft-steering point -I’m really enjoying how janky and uncontrollable my rudimentary creations are at this stage. Just point it in the direction you want to travel and hang on for dear life!

I’m pretty sure that the steering etc comes later as you unlock more toys to mess about with but right now I’m loving knocking up a piece of shit go-kart and riding that thing in a straight line across country until I crash into something interesting

Incredibly fun game

i got deep into the rito village quest all the way to "the dungeon" but ran out of cold protection youre prob supposed to buy the rito village clothes but i didnt have nearly enough money, prob equivalent behavior to just doing a divine beast right away in the last game, have to remember where i found the chili peppers lol

xps I thought "goatse" the first time I saw the Thing in Question, and I'm worried what that says about me

This game is so cool. The beginning tutorial area was such a slog, though.

Rotation fine, driving in straight line very fun, pinball shrine too hard to figure out, embarrassingly already looked up how to solve it. Love holding up this blokes signs every 10 or so minutes with ultra hand puzzles. You think he’d figure it out and not need my help by now. Got myself a horse, A tree came to life and started attacking me. Entered a zone which is much too hard for me right now, we’ll see how I go

Rotation was doing my head until my kid taught me. Not sure I can do it in words but basically it’s a three part move: get the horizontal in the right position so that the vertical move will rotate into the desired final vertical state, then put the horizontal to its desired final state. Now I can’t remember why I was confused.

xp the sound design of BotW and now this game are absolutely pinnacle. My partner even came out and said "I miss those sounds" when I was grabbing apples up in the starting area. With nice headphones, just listening to Link walk around was so satisfying in BotW. The elegance of the piano in that game and the more eerie ethereal string motifs in TotK (so far) are so expressive and unique in gaming and so incredibly immersive. Audio and sound design is the great equalizer with gaming these days (pun intended)!

initial island was a bit of a slog and quite confusing to navigate but finally into hyrule now - this game must be massive

OK so I watched a pro tips video on youtube and there are so many things you can do with the powers that are not intuitive but would make your life so much easier on the tutorial island if you knew them

Xp Yeah given the level of praise these games have received for how well-designed the world is, that opening island was a real chore.

Spent ages fooling around trying to get to where I needed to be and wondering what I was missing before realising eventually that I would have to retrace my steps and go round the other way, which was in itself a bit of a nightmare. Felt like it had been designed for you to travel in one direction with no thought given to how you could get back.

the world itself once you’re let loose is a real joy to climb / ride / glide / sail / surf / drive / fly / bounce / jetpack / time travel around though so I’m prepared to overlook it

Also even while that opening island was testing my patience I was still so happy to be back in this world, which is by some margin my fav video game space

I kinda liked the opening island! There are lots of hidden routes in there which make aimless exploring quite fun. I was well stocked with food and weapon add-ons by the time I hit Hyrule

I keep forgetting I don’t have a glider when I jump! Love the clattering ceramic sounds of the constructs.
