I found that I eventually had so much money that I upgraded everything just for the sake of spending it, so just prioritize what ever seems to make life easier for you in the start, because you’ll get everything else eventually.
― blatherskite, Monday, 12 September 2022 15:04 (three years ago)
The fight in the art gallery was probably the funniest moment in the game for me so far
― calstars, Monday, 12 September 2022 15:10 (three years ago)
Anyone got any advice on upgrades (camp or otherwise)?
Get that Legendary Buck first. The prize will be more findings of three-star animals.
There's also a good trinket to get that keeps animals from spoiling on your horse.
Chapters 2 and 3 are a good time to get a lot of that stuff out of the way.
― pplains, Monday, 12 September 2022 21:26 (three years ago)
Man, this game
Have only just completed Chapter 2 and reckon, similar to the first one, 90+% of my time is spent hunting animals, collecting herbs, doing challenges and generally just wandering around. So fucking good
― groovypanda, Thursday, 22 September 2022 08:39 (three years ago)
I wish I had done a lot more of that stuff right around where you are now, Chapters 2 and 3.
It did leave me with plenty to do after the missions were over, but whenever I'd complete a challenge and get the reward, I'd think, "Boy, I sure could've used that a month ago."
― pplains, Thursday, 22 September 2022 13:28 (three years ago)
Best moment so far was when I shot the Legendary Bison with a poison arrow and then the fucker decided to run into the lake and drown, leaving me unable to skin it and harvest the parts (thankfully they then auto appear in the fence's inventory so it doesn't stop you crafting any of the talismans)
― groovypanda, Thursday, 22 September 2022 14:50 (three years ago)
i'm trying starting RDR2 over from the beginning. i could never get into it despite my love for the first one, and i stopped playing for so long that i feel like i need the refresh of a complete restart. i'm sure i've complained about this upthread but my main obstacle is how arthur moves. he lumbers around like frankenstein's monster, so slow and clumsy, which isn't very fun to play. it still looks gorgeous though, even as a ps4 game that came out four years ago.
― na (NA), Monday, 28 November 2022 21:15 (three years ago)
ha, I like that about him. especially at the beginning, he's just this big lumbering goof, along for the ride, being told what to do. So Frankenstein's monster is kind of accurate.
― Josh in Chicago, Monday, 28 November 2022 21:20 (three years ago)
I really wish I could play the first game. it's unfathomable to me that people could put so much time and effort into these prolonged narratives and they can just vanish in a generation.
― Josh in Chicago, Monday, 28 November 2022 21:21 (three years ago)
tried to play GTAV after this and it just makes RDR2 seem even better. I keep being annoyed that I can't interact with objects or people the way you can in RDR2, they all just seem like fake props.
― Piven After Midnight (The Yellow Kid), Monday, 28 November 2022 21:43 (three years ago)
I didn't realize until after RDR2 how much the GTAV POV camera floats and bobs, reality show-wise, during cutscenes.
And so many more burglary options in RDR2!
― pplains, Monday, 28 November 2022 22:07 (three years ago)
i accidentally ended up in Saint Denis and man that is an overwhelming experience if you're not expecting it. it's so huge and so beautifully designed, with so much detail to look at. impressive
― na (NA), Thursday, 15 December 2022 19:46 (three years ago)
The whole game is kind of like that. Just so much to look at, so many details.
― Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 15 December 2022 23:56 (three years ago)
Finished this the other week. Just an incredible game.
Crazy that you can put in 100 hours plus to complete it and still won't have unlocked all that south western bit of the map
― groovypanda, Monday, 19 December 2022 10:55 (three years ago)
Got way too proud of myself for accomplishing this:

played a lot of RDR2 over the holidays. i need to do more exploration/hunting/etc, i've mostly been following the plot so far. just started the st. denis chapter
they should have a GTA-style thing where you can pick the music while you're riding around, but instead of radio stations, it's different folk singers riding on donkeys next to your horse
― na (NA), Tuesday, 3 January 2023 17:53 (three years ago)
I finally started in on the online version.
The missions are pretty much the same, but the characters are fun. Been a few "Wait, I know this guy," moments. My biggest complaint is how much they want you to grind everything three different ways. This will cost money, but this can only be bought with gold. All these neat roles and, well, I guess I'll get a chance at one of them this summer when I can finally afford the right bag.
Live sessions are a different vibe from GTAO. Other players in the missions seem invested in winning the missions. No one really fucks around with you out in the open. Having a defensive mode and not being able to see other players on the map until they're in your vicinity must help.
― pplains, Tuesday, 3 January 2023 18:20 (three years ago)
got to guarma, thought "wow this huge game even has a totally separate tropical island environment, i can't wait to explore it" and then the whole section is basically on rails and is just a lot of running around shooting soldiers, disappointing
― na (NA), Friday, 27 January 2023 17:09 (three years ago)
Yeah, I didn't mind it, but I also didn't quite get the point. It's basically pre-integrated DLC.
― Josh in Chicago, Friday, 27 January 2023 17:15 (three years ago)
i didn't really care that much about the lack of freedom to explore but the missions on the island were tedious and could've used some variety. i guess following an old lady through a cave and shooting a cannon at a ship was fairly cool.
― na (NA), Friday, 27 January 2023 17:35 (three years ago)
You want open world, they should have given you the option to swim back to America.
― Josh in Chicago, Friday, 27 January 2023 17:44 (three years ago)
Lot of animals to discover there, and they're gone once you go back.
― pplains, Friday, 27 January 2023 17:47 (three years ago)
It’s also at an odd point in the narrative. After this terrible heist that should leave Arthur grief-stricken, here’s Gilligan’s Island. Felt like a lesser version of RDR’s Mexico chapter, as well.
― blatherskite, Friday, 27 January 2023 18:41 (three years ago)
It must have felt like practice for the designers who eventually built Cayo Perico in GTA Online.
And I suspect there'll be more Guarmas/Cayos in GTA6.
― pplains, Friday, 27 January 2023 18:57 (three years ago)
it did feel a little too uncharted/tomb raider/assassin's creed; i.e. i've already played a lot of big open-world games with jungle environments
― na (NA), Friday, 27 January 2023 20:00 (three years ago)
tuberculosis simulator 2018
― na (NA), Friday, 3 February 2023 17:13 (three years ago)
Even today, I tell myself, "Shoulda saved a version while you were still down by that lake."
― pplains, Friday, 3 February 2023 17:47 (three years ago)
i thought i was basically done with this game and then "EPILOGUE: PART I" popped up. i genuinely laughed out loud
not really enjoying "nagging wife simulator 2018" that much so far though
― na (NA), Monday, 13 February 2023 18:19 (three years ago)
I think I'm about 75-80% done. seems like such a slog to get through the rest...maybe I should just start playing last of us?
― calstars, Tuesday, 14 February 2023 20:53 (three years ago)
have you finished the main story?
― Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 14 February 2023 20:54 (three years ago)
no
― calstars, Tuesday, 14 February 2023 20:55 (three years ago)
You should probably do that, unless the story hasn't gripped you at all. It has a pretty well executed conclusion.
― Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 14 February 2023 21:00 (three years ago)
Heh.
― pplains, Tuesday, 14 February 2023 21:12 (three years ago)
Ok
― calstars, Tuesday, 14 February 2023 21:32 (three years ago)
couple of different ways it could end, but "well executed" can apply to any of 'em, one way or the other.
― pplains, Tuesday, 14 February 2023 21:53 (three years ago)
Vaguely intrigued
― calstars, Tuesday, 14 February 2023 23:17 (three years ago)
Haha, yeah that first bit when you're just doing farm chores is a bit of a drag but it does get better.
I guess the main purpose, given how the main story concludes, is that it lets you continue playing to complete any outstanding tasks, challenges, rock paintings etc if you so wish
― groovypanda, Wednesday, 15 February 2023 14:28 (three years ago)
I'll take the nagging wife simulator over the know-it-all uncle MCM though
― pplains, Wednesday, 15 February 2023 14:42 (three years ago)
Isn't the gist of it thematic, setting things up for the Godfather III-like "just when I thought I was out ..." shift?
― Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 15 February 2023 15:14 (three years ago)
i was going to spoiler tag this but but the game is five years old so just uh beware spoilers
does the "epilogue" part of the game really open up the full map from RDR1? or just part of it? it's been so long since i played it but i recognize some of the landmarks for sure
― na (NA), Wednesday, 22 February 2023 21:03 (three years ago)
i guess it's just part, since there's no mexico
― na (NA), Wednesday, 22 February 2023 21:05 (three years ago)
I tried again the other night to heroically trudge on to the main story conclusion. I think I’m on chapter 6 now. We’re looking for new land because Dutch is a dumb fuck so we take a canoe to a dimly lit wood and I have to choose between using dynamite to flush out the bad people from their cave hideout or use stealth. I choose dynamite. I’m trying to move the damn character to the area where the dynamite has appeared as an item to interact with. I guess I get close? Then I’m throwing the dynamite and suddenly I’m in the cave somehow, and there’s a lady screaming and people shooting at me. I start to mash all the controller buttons together while turning the character around and jumping because I still cannot remember the mappings.
― calstars, Wednesday, 22 February 2023 21:37 (three years ago)
Apparently parts of Mexico are there but you have to use a glitch to get those parts of the map xp
― groovypanda, Thursday, 23 February 2023 10:34 (three years ago)
I'm the white dot!
Red Dead Redemption
― pplains, Thursday, 23 February 2023 13:45 (three years ago)
Reportedly "Red Dead Redemption" was just given a rating in South Korea, implying a remaster or remake is on its way.

That would be decent, and long overdue. The undead nightmare dlc was brilliant.
― Ste, Thursday, 29 June 2023 09:28 (two years ago)
I’m going to need a PS5 version of RDR2 running at a consistent 60fps first. (And thus marks my first ILG post, I think?)
― spastic heritage, Friday, 30 June 2023 17:05 (two years ago)
People a talkin' about a new logo just introduced at Rockstar for "Red Dead Redemption" ...
― Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 27 July 2023 18:23 (two years ago)
That's pretty cool - never played it and dove into RDR2 first, which as a prequel, makes playing RDR1 remastered a "sequel" of sorts that will slot in perfectly once it's out.
