eshop has a sale on a bunch of multiplayer games rn - at least in UK. I got drink more glurp for £1.03!! it's a fairly quick and goofy pass-the-pad physics game, good fun for a few rounds with a small group.

Maybe they will add some old levels to Mario Kart, new characters to Smash Bros., and announce that they are only a couple of years out from Zelda 2 and Metroid Prime 4.

Splatoon 3 just sold 3.5 million in three days in Japan, biggest game launch there ever.
bigger than Pokemon, Dragon Quest, FF7. that's kind of a big deal, no?

I bought the previous splatoon a while back and could never get used to the damn controls.

my kids were so hyped for that, they'd been talking about it for like the past year
i played a little of the new one, it seems exactly like splatoon 2? like "new" characters and levels but no appreciable difference in gameplay or graphics or anything

i also struggle with the controls, i end up mostly using the right joystick to look around instead of tilting the controller

Super Mario Bros to SMB3 was a notable leap. But yeah, sequels in the same console generation are usually subtitled “very similar to what you already like; 3/4 of the way to the inevitable reboot”

But damn, people must be craving some more of what they like about splatoon! This is very petty or me but i can’t stand the character style of splatoon. I don’t want to be any of these characters or look at them

i'm not a huge fan of the char designs/fashion either but the game is absurdly fun once you master the movement (i have not bought 3 though nor will i for a bit)

Sigh. I feel like half my time with the Switch has been spent waiting for what comes next, but at this point I think I've finally realized that with few exceptions, whatever it is that Nintendo does best may just be not for me. I loved Breath and we as a family got a lot out of Mario Kart, but both of those were ports from the previous system. I loved the Ori games, but they were Microsoft games that somehow made it to Nintendo. Other than that, my fave indies (Hollow Knight, Cuphead, Hades) have been available on all systems. Oh well.

im studying the trailer like the zapruder film, stuff weve seen before floating castle, sky islands, no towers or shrines, links weird arms, link doesnt have any of his old gear, time reversing mechanic maybe thing; new stuff link has guardian shotgun shell looking things hanging from his belt, big green design on a bluff, wooden shield, stone axe, airplane!

his gear looks pretty rudimentary feel like this could be the distant past, relative to botw, or some sort of time mixing situation cld be going on, the castle is there but its behaving strangely

Nintendo consoles are for Nintendo first party games. You should buy them if you want to play Mario, Zelda, Splatoon, Metroid, Donkey Kong, Kirby, and, uh, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom, which I’m playing through right now. If you’re not into those but want a handheld you might be better off getting a Steam Deck

one question about this game is if theyre using "the same map and engine" how do you make it a new fresh experience, and obvs part of the answer is links got to have new different stuff, different mechanics

however if they make a mario odyssey 2 you absolutely must be able to jump on the hat

Surely it's this, and I for one am looking forward to it. I love it when you get a familiar landscape made strange, whether in a sequel or in the same game, like the Leyndell/Ashen Capital in Elden Ring

I agree with this to a certain extent but you can't exactly go buy a Deck easily. Also although I have a Deck and like it, it is nowhere near as plug-and-play as the marketing suggests, you have to do a lot of dicking around to get many games working on it, if they work at all. I'm currently playing Soul Hackers 2 which launched well after the Deck did and it's buggy as hell with regular crashes, I had to search out and install a custom windows layer just to get it working decently. It's not a mass market device, that's for sure.

I agree with all of that, and it's totally fair, there just haven't been that many first party games that have commanded my attention. Basically just Breath of the Wild, and again, that was technically last gen. Not really a fan of turn-based or rogue-likes or JRPGs, which kind of limits offerings on all systems, tbh, but especially on the Switch. But hey, it was worth buying for Breath and the two Oris alone!
