it's definitely bizarre, especially since it followed the SNES controller which was fantastic

maybe just a terrible throwback to '80s-style arcade/controller design, maybe they just wanted it to look really different from Playstation

the entire left third of the controller being a red herring is so bizarre

i guess mischief makers used it. one game out of hundreds

my terrible secret is that i always used the left third and left the middle one untouched. i don't even know how i played goldeneye.

I am guessing Nintendo thought having the thumb point directly towards the screen was important. It wasn't.

iirc they designed it to be used with multiple layouts/grips, youre not supposed to use it all at once its basically two controllers in one, tho actual use didnt really pan out that way, but you gotta give them a break triggers analog sticks all that stuff was new no one knew what a controller for 3d games was supposed to be like, it was innovation baby, then other systems refined it

did the NES dogbone come out before the SNES asymmetric dogbone?

I believe not, the NES dogbone came with the redesigned NES toploader which came out after the SNES launched
I always forget that the PS1 originally came without analog sticks on the controller

xp i mean, fair enough, they were trying something new, but the original Dualshock came out the next year...

yeah they took the good stuff threw out the bad stuff and added some more good stuff and video game controllers basically reached their final form

i dunno, I feel like Nintendo always comes up with crazy new controller concepts, that's their thing! Gamecube was wacky, Wii was crazy, etc.

yeah nintendo continued to do wacky stuff but ps/xbox/etc has remained pretty much the same, i guess the addition of motion controls via the wii was the last big addition, and now the switch is basically a standard controller w a screen in the middle

so far triangle strategy feels like 5% gameplay, 95% unnecessary exposition

I was hoping for ff tactics2. Not so much?

strategy = talking to villagers
tactics = casting spells

this! it would be called triangle tactics if it was a fft-like

most of the reviews say its a good storygame but only an okay tactics game, which would make it more of a fire emblem-like

the nintendo switch, when playing mobile, looks like a pair of wrist shackles. combined with a Skip-It, you are fun's prisoner.

Just discovered Super Mario 3D World again. It's been on my Switch since the day it came out, only played once. It's fucken good!

i just did a replay of it tho i never totally finished it i guess i didnt realize there was the crown world, anyway i am on the very last level champions road, very excellent game imho

I played it a ton with my son on the Wii U - is there a reason to get Bowser's Fury? I'm not really clear on if it's the same game or not.

And yes, I agree it's excellent - maybe the best sidescrolling (sort of) Mario there is?

Ninja Hideaway mario kart is nuts

Bowser's Fury is like a 3D World DLC, it's very good. Apparently it takes about 4 hours to finish if you're a games journalist, so I'm guessing a couple weeks for a normal person.

yeah its good but not full length, prob only worth buying if you want to play 3d world more

Ninja Hideaway is really the star of the first Mario Kart dlc batch. Having a bunch based on cities is a fun concept too though.

I forgot how punishing 150cc is in this game (for me anyway). I never did manage to find an ideal character/cart combo for that mode.

Anyone played pikmin 3 deluxe? Currently considering whether it is worth $30AUD.

The demo was fun. It's barely different from Pikmin 1, just better graphics. If you want Pikmin, it's exactly what you want, but no surprises.
