Chrono cross looks like an upscale on an emulator. That game has major problems and needs more improvements.

i thought there was going to be a surprise mother 3 announcement but alas

very excited that i've already paid for 48 new mario kart tracks

Very grateful for Metroid Dread rookie mode, now I can actually beat it instead of "gitting gud"

heh, I like tough games but I have yet to play anything that involves "gitting gud" that did not result in me having to repair one of my abused controller sticks afterwards.

xp I like tough games too, but I'm coming to realize that I prefer mental or strategic challenge to challenges of manual dexterity

I'd be very surprised if Mother 3 got a proper release in the US. Fassad is pretty un-PC. You open presents and they fart on you. You can make the monkey smear dung all over itself. Among other things.

i could see it happening but they will surely rerelease other GBA games that actually have english versions before it so wait until that happens before you get your hopes up. like you'll be able to play golden sun on switch well before mother 3, and yet there's no indication that they have plans to do golden sun atm either

Live A Live is one that I made sure to put in my rom library (fan translated) some years ago, but I never actually got around to it. Is it good?

yeah it owns. one of the best 90s squaresoft games

the new kirby game looks fun. basically super mario odyssey but with kirby instead of mario.
pumped to play portal and portal 2 again.

yeah i had the same thought watching the trailer yesterday, they must have realized that they had stolen from kirby's game mechanics niche for odyssey and decided to make right

Also Mario has a gag reflex so that limits him a bit

Majora's Mask, which I've never played, is out on the Switch N64 today, so I finally gave up and bought the expansion pack. Ocarina is... fine? I know there was a new patch today, but it plays fine, looks fine, controls fine, I guess there's some very, very minor lag but I wouldn't notice if I hadn't read about it. Unless the patch today made massive changes, I'm tempted to say the complaints were OTT. I'm a v. casual gamer though so I imagine there's lots I wouldn't notice/care about. Excited for Majora though.

The mapping of controls for the Switch N64 emulator really messes with me. Kinda wish I'd gotten one of those overpriced Switch N64 controllers while they were still available.

there's gotta be an 8bitdo or something clone controller out there

i used to use a saitek p990 for n64 emulation but thats an ancient one, i dunno what the current equivalent would be. presumably someone still makes a 6 face button gamepad though?

the retrobit tribute64 is pretty good, don't know if it works on a switch though. also there's the brawler64 which looks nice

what i really want is one of those overpriced switch n64 controllers though

the actual n64 controller form factor is awful sorry. i will never use it unless i'm playing on a real n64

I was finding Occarina impossible on this Switch Online version, does the patch do anything to fix it? I couldnt work out what buttons did what.

Oh and it also looked janky. I'm sure the 3DS versh didnt look that bad but it prob doesnt help I'm trying to play a 30 year old game on a gigantic 4K tv LOL

the n64 is the worst major console controller i've ever touched, it's horrible

it's definitely bizarre, especially since it followed the SNES controller which was fantastic

maybe just a terrible throwback to '80s-style arcade/controller design, maybe they just wanted it to look really different from Playstation

the entire left third of the controller being a red herring is so bizarre

i guess mischief makers used it. one game out of hundreds

my terrible secret is that i always used the left third and left the middle one untouched. i don't even know how i played goldeneye.

I am guessing Nintendo thought having the thumb point directly towards the screen was important. It wasn't.

iirc they designed it to be used with multiple layouts/grips, youre not supposed to use it all at once its basically two controllers in one, tho actual use didnt really pan out that way, but you gotta give them a break triggers analog sticks all that stuff was new no one knew what a controller for 3d games was supposed to be like, it was innovation baby, then other systems refined it

did the NES dogbone come out before the SNES asymmetric dogbone?

I believe not, the NES dogbone came with the redesigned NES toploader which came out after the SNES launched
I always forget that the PS1 originally came without analog sticks on the controller

xp i mean, fair enough, they were trying something new, but the original Dualshock came out the next year...

yeah they took the good stuff threw out the bad stuff and added some more good stuff and video game controllers basically reached their final form

i dunno, I feel like Nintendo always comes up with crazy new controller concepts, that's their thing! Gamecube was wacky, Wii was crazy, etc.

yeah nintendo continued to do wacky stuff but ps/xbox/etc has remained pretty much the same, i guess the addition of motion controls via the wii was the last big addition, and now the switch is basically a standard controller w a screen in the middle

so far triangle strategy feels like 5% gameplay, 95% unnecessary exposition

I was hoping for ff tactics2. Not so much?

tactics = casting spells

this! it would be called triangle tactics if it was a fft-like

most of the reviews say its a good storygame but only an okay tactics game, which would make it more of a fire emblem-like
