It is pretty easy to win unless you get born somewhere with no small stuff but yeah still satisfying. Solo mode is harder, best I've managed is about 75% but I've only tried two or three times.
― In the wastelands of Birmingham and Manchester, massages are back (ledge), Sunday, 4 July 2021 13:28 (four years ago)
i got to the 80% threshold, but it's VERY map-dependent. like what you want is to be in one of the maps with a ton of marsh grass and bamboo to just chow down on at the beginning.
― Bobo Honk, real name, no gimmicks (Doctor Casino), Sunday, 4 July 2021 15:18 (four years ago)
yeah, there's one map where the little marsh grass is actually worth +2 at the beginning, while the bigger trees and things like that you can barely swallow are only +1
and there's another map where I can't seem to get past 30% no matter what.
one suggestion for this game is that they could put the title of the map somewhere when you play it! if you're playing on rando, sometimes it's tough to know where you actually are.
i did submit a tip to the developer and asked them about the possibility of creating private rooms, or somewhere where you could count on more humans
― Z_TBD (Karl Malone), Sunday, 4 July 2021 15:20 (four years ago)
the maps have titles on the maps page. pretty generic though. sci-fi. vikings. japan...
the sci fi one looks like it has lots of large buildings but they are actually prefabs, made up of smaller blocks, which slip down nicely.
― koogs, Sunday, 4 July 2021 15:27 (four years ago)
i appreciate the No Sound aesthetic, too
― Z_TBD (Karl Malone), Sunday, 4 July 2021 15:30 (four years ago)
it's a lesson that should apply to book covers, too - if you don't have any good ideas for what it should be, it's almost better to just go with nothing at all
Japan seemed easier, always something small nearby. got 80 something percent on solo a couple of times.
― koogs, Sunday, 4 July 2021 21:43 (four years ago)
the other thing this BADLY needs is a mini-map. doesn't need to be, and probably shouldn't be, "live" ... but being able to know at a glance whether you're heading towards viable terrain or the bottom right corner of the map would be really nice.

Syndicate Plus and Syndicate Wars also currently 100% off (which I guess is different to free which is why they're not showing on that list?).

Actually realised that's the previous version, if you hunt down the cart on the Pico-9 website you'll get the most recent one which features more stuff.

(i need to finish the one i'm in the middle of, but i'm slightly bored of it and i don't see why anyone would play it when they could be playing anything else. also need to finish the one before that...)

been meaning to up load a fun level I designed for this, because of the film Dune right now. This is a well done reworking of the classic real time strategy game (original?!?) Dune 2 for the PC, this fan made re-design operates very differently to the original but it keeps the same everything else, style of graphics, sounds, etc. I enjoyed it as a fan of the original but don't know if it is appealing to new players? One for the retro gamers and dune fans, at least.http://dunelegacy.sourceforge.net/website/

been doing the brain bashers daily tracks for a while now (the 10x10 take about 3 minutes each generally - https://brainbashers.com/tracks.asp )
but looking around he has others and these are a similar kind of fun, but longer:
https://brainbashers.com/3inarow.asp
(colour the boxes, avoid runs of 3 in a row, equal number of each colour in each row / column)

Thanks koog, those are fun...I suspect a bunch of them use the same underlying math just with a different visualization...
― m0stly clean (Slowsquatch), Saturday, 13 August 2022 13:25 (three years ago)
i have thought about the train tracks thing and the random walk for generating the tracks is easy enough but i can't get a handle on how you'd decide which squares to reveal to make it solvable and distinct.
the three in a row, again, trivial to write a solver that looks for two in a row and puts an opposite square on the end, or for two with a gap and full that gap, but when you've exhausted those, recursively, there's still a way to go.

― G. D’Arcy Cheesewright (silby), Sunday, 20 November 2022 01:07 (three years ago)
things i haven't really thought about since ~1989.
iirc a combination of NAND gates can do anything, NOT and therefore AND is trivial and de morgan's law says !(A AND B) = !A OR !B so OR is easy enough. i am thinking about XOR... (it's not a great experience on a phone...)
