Indeed.

people on PC would harp on the gameplay but gush about the graphics, i just don't get it
― global tetrahedron, Wednesday, 17 February 2021 14:22 (five years ago)
yeah i'd be the opposite. i built a new pc just before this came out (not for this game -- in fact buying it was an impulse decision to "see what my new computer could do") and while i enjoyed the gunplay and the golden path missions and some of the sidequests stuff, the degree to which i needed to turn down my graphics to get even a decent framerate was very annoying and it just didn't look that good. the hud/ui, which at the very least i would have expected to look slick as fuck for a cyberpunk game, barely felt a step above fallout 3? and since the computer i built isn't a multi-thousand-dollar powerhouse or anything, i figured ah its just not that powerful, maybe nothing runs THAT good. then i installed forza horizon 4 and play it on ultra in 1440p (vs cyberpunk which i played on 1080p, didnt have new monitor yet) and consistently get 60-80 frames so uhhh

even when someone can get it running at 4k or whatever, it's all either so drab or sickly bright in such an unappealing way. too much asphalt, and how much better have we gotten at rendering asphalt
― global tetrahedron, Thursday, 18 February 2021 22:23 (five years ago)
It's just not a good game,i think is the issue

Tbf dl's a Witcher fan (as am I), so you'd hope Cyberpunk 2077 tops it.
― pomenitul, Friday, 19 February 2021 01:14 (five years ago)
i tried 2 times to get into the witcher and bounced off hard. i liked 2077 enough to finish it and come close to 100%ing it even. its fun! it has fun parts! im just saying look wise i kinda expected more than "last gen but moreso"
― Kompakt Total Landscaping (Will M.), Friday, 19 February 2021 03:44 (five years ago)
cyberpunk is massively flawed and probably needed at least another six months before it was released
but it's also one of the most exquisitely-realised, real-feeling game worlds i've ever played in and it has a genuine, tender affection for its main characters, who are all unusually well-written
so y'know it's a land of contrasts i guess

I'm not big on the cyberpunk aesthetic (fantasy 4evah) so I expect I'll enjoy this less than The Witcher series, but I still plan on playing it once it'll be fully patched and I'll have built myself a beefier rig. So… in 2022, probably.
― pomenitul, Friday, 19 February 2021 14:59 (five years ago)
I've heard that the cyberpunk aesthetic and world building is a mile wide and an inch deep, and since I was profoundly disappointed by the Witcher, this will be a hard pass.
― RZA Minnelli (Leee), Friday, 19 February 2021 15:44 (five years ago)
the genre of cyberpunk is pretty silly at this point, i mean it was always silly, its just kinda antiquated now that were living in the damn cyberpunk, theres just an aesthetic left, a futures past thing, which could be cool... i guess!
― lag∞n, Friday, 19 February 2021 15:52 (five years ago)
i agree, cyberpunk needs to be reinvented

― Zach_TBD (Karl Malone), Friday, 19 February 2021 15:58 (five years ago)
a whole world of neon signs and cyborg prostitutes is not cyberpunk, there also needs to be a farm

in real cyberpunk 2020 there are rural areas, right? or at least, there are nomads. and i don't know, maybe the cyberpunks don't need farms because they're on soylentX
― Zach_TBD (Karl Malone), Friday, 19 February 2021 16:06 (five years ago)
its important for contrast, to show us what weve lost, thats why you go to michael caines house
― lag∞n, Friday, 19 February 2021 16:12 (five years ago)
Cyberpunk 2077 is a late 80s idea of the future since that's when the board game RPG first came out. All futurism ends up as retrofuturism eventually. Cyberpunk as a genre just seems to have hit that much earlier because the imagined futures it showed us were set, well, now mostly.
― Being cheap is expensive (snoball), Friday, 19 February 2021 18:28 (five years ago)
there's a solar farm AND a some-kinda-grain-probably-corn farm. you don't have a lot of missions in either tho. there's also a badlands to the east which is yeah nomad country

― calstars, Tuesday, 23 February 2021 13:55 (five years ago)
is this w/ a big fancy rtx rig? mine looked p good but that looks REAL good(btw most of my graphics complaints are directed at hud and menus. rly feel like they'd have benefitted from more... something)

Speaking of which, I’m kind of tempted to get a new GPU as I’ve had my GTX 1070 for four years now but the ongoing shortage is more of an impediment than I expected. And it looks like there’s no end in sight.

This game runs fine on my 1070
― reggae mike love (polyphonic), Thursday, 25 February 2021 21:46 (five years ago)
I was so lucky to get a 2060 before the miners went crazy and the scalpers got organised.
This game is very RTX ON with all the puddles and wotnot but I'm not sure I'm into the design of the world at all. Outside of the metal on everyone's face I'm not sure its even a well imagined future city/world. The last Deus Ex game had way better world design, and its not even that good! And even in terms of GRAPHIX, I'm playing RDR2 right now and it looks way better, as well as having significantly better gameplay. I know it's nor fair to compare, but if you're an open world game in 202x you're either gotta beat RDR2/BotW/H:ZD or come with something new, and I just don't think CP77 does on either front.

Oh I’m sure it’s fine at mid-settings. Truth be told, even if I had an RTX 3080, I’d probably hold off until the game is fully patched anyway.
