i've said this on the MST thread, but the key to the classic period is that very few jokes are really of the type "hey, this movie sure is dumb/bad, huh?" and when they are, many of them get at that by picking up on some very small detail or odd bit of writing or production design that hits my brain in a left-field unexpected way. but YMMV!
