I’ve kinda gotten a kick out of corny gamer dorks seeing their lord and savior fuck up in spectacular fashion, but yeah, sympathies to the folks who had to grind this out for this result. Spectacular mismanagement.Hoping we get some Fyre Fest exposes on wtf happened behind the scenes here.

Same here, except I wouldn't call them corny.

On Glassdoor, a site where people can rate their previous employers, current and former CD Projekt Red workers said there was chaos behind the scenes: Office rumors spreading on Discord servers, misleading deadlines set by managers, infighting among the company’s top brass, and incompetence and poor planning leading to unnecessary “crunch,” a term for overworking employees to produce games under a tight deadline. Longtime engineering staff left the company as a result of overwork.“The owners treat the company as a machine to earn money, and do not see employees as people but more like data in the table,” one former employee wrote on the site.

If you're not on a legacy console, this is running pretty well. Malcontents will push the glitch narrative, but that's not what I'm seeing on PC. I'm seeing a remarkably fluid game engine, great art, modeling and music, and serviceable but sometimes great writing. The voice actor for female V will be in demand, the male, not so much.
The more serious complaints should be with the issues that will be much harder to iron out: Railbound narratives. Lousy enemy AI. Scaling via bullet sponges. Domino effects in the underlying RPG maths such that some character builds just steamroll through without effort (or replayability). Pervasive environmental misogyny.
My guess, as it gets sorted, and more play on current consoles, this will viewed as technically (over)ambitious, but not captivating.
― A Like Supreme (Sanpaku), Thursday, 24 December 2020 07:44 (five years ago)
Iirc in the Dunkey video says he was playing on a generally solid PC rig, too, and still ran into tons of frame rate issues, really dramatic dips. As he says, if you can get Mario Odyssey running at 60fps on a Switch, and stuff like God of War and Red Dead running stable on a base console, then there is no excuse.
― Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 24 December 2020 14:49 (five years ago)
There isn't any excuse for the state of it on base model last gen consoles. They done em dirty.
― maf you one two (maffew12), Thursday, 24 December 2020 14:55 (five years ago)
Just recently found out that PlayStation straight up removed it from their online store a few days ago? Damn.
― circa1916, Thursday, 24 December 2020 17:19 (five years ago)

― ciderpress, Thursday, 24 December 2020 17:55 (five years ago)
I just started playing GTA V on my Base PS4, a game that came out in 2014, and yeah, there is no excuse at all
― Specific Ocean Blue (dog latin), Thursday, 24 December 2020 18:19 (five years ago)
you'd need to play GTA V on PS3 for the proper comparison
― ciderpress, Thursday, 24 December 2020 18:44 (five years ago)
and also without the 5 years of patches its gotten
GTA V on 360 was pretty smooth iirc
― reggae mike love (polyphonic), Thursday, 24 December 2020 19:09 (five years ago)
I played GTA 5 on PS3 like first week of release. It was pretty flawless? It was released on PS3 and 360 exclusively, so it was pretty laser focused to run well on those systems. Online was jacked up, of course.Rockstar actually a company that does this remarkably well. Read Dead 2 is still jaw dropping.
― circa1916, Thursday, 24 December 2020 19:37 (five years ago)
Gta v was good on xbox 360. Was the last new console game I bought 😭

Got the disc version of this as a xmas present. So far, at least with the latest patch, the game has been running decently on my base PS4. There’s some occasional frame rate dropping and stuttering (especially with vehicles) but it’s not at all unplayable.
(Of course that’s not to excuse any issues others are experiencing or the developer’s obvious greed and mismanagement of their launch.)
Gameplay-wise its nothing revolutionary but it’s a solid sandbox action RPG. The story’s pretty cliche but I’m enjoying it. Very GTA.
― latebloomer, Saturday, 26 December 2020 20:37 (five years ago)
oh yeah i wasnt saying that GTAV was bad on release just that the PS4 version isn't the right comparison
― ciderpress, Saturday, 26 December 2020 21:15 (five years ago)
rockstar probably also under less pressure to ship their games a year before they're finished
― ciderpress, Saturday, 26 December 2020 21:22 (five years ago)
yeah rockstar won't announce a game until it's on a solid finish path.
― Two Meter Peter (Ste), Saturday, 26 December 2020 21:38 (five years ago)
i imagine one of the big factors in not delaying it again was console generation timing - 6 months from now there still isn't going to be a huge PS5/XBSX install base but the 150 million+ PS4s/XB1s in the wild are going to start collecting dust, and people would put off buying it until they can get a next gen console. despite the terrible optimization this game was always supposed to take advantage of that massive late-generation install base. most studios probably would've done the same thing if they were scared of missing that window.
seems to have worked out well enough for their bottom line anyway, in spite of everything
― ✖, Sunday, 27 December 2020 00:50 (five years ago)

As someone who has had Twitch on in the background for a while: C77 is less buggy than any Bethesda release upon launch, and in some respects more ambitious. Even on base PS4s. There are more serious issues with gameplay balance, which may never get fixed, but objects glitching out occurs about once every few hours, crashes every several dozen.
Yes, in its best visual form it's really demanding of graphics cards. Under 5% of Steam users have a PC with a graphics card that can do it justice (even at 1080p). I'll likely get vaccinated before I find a Ampere card at MSRP or below (Chinese Etherium miners bought most), or AMD updates its drivers to support ray tracing for lighting effects. But for those who were lucky/rich enough to have bleeding edge PCs, its really graphically stunning.

For those of you lamenting there's no means of previewing clothing, a fan-made C77 fashion catalogue and inspiration magazine, as featured in Forbes. Limited to female Vs at the moment.

this is better than saints row 2 but not as good as sleeping dogs, and overall feels like those games--mid/late xbox 360 era GTA clones.
