All the Lego games I've played have been fun - Star Wars, Marvel & Harry Potter - but play them all with my kids as the co-op mode is great

groovypanda, Wednesday, 7 October 2020 06:56 (five years ago)

I thought the first Lego Harry Potter was great. The second one isn’t nearly as much fun.

treefell, Wednesday, 7 October 2020 07:29 (five years ago)

Would also say that a lot of the enjoyment in these games comes from being familiar with the source material

groovypanda, Wednesday, 7 October 2020 07:32 (five years ago)

Yeah, there's a whole lotta "oh, that scene, but in Lego form!" Which tbf is the gist of the actual Lego tie-in sets.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 7 October 2020 13:26 (five years ago)

haha, I am very familiar with the HP source material!

avellano medio inglés (f. hazel), Wednesday, 7 October 2020 20:46 (five years ago)

the kids are wizards. you get it, right?

bogo jumbo boba (Sufjan Grafton), Wednesday, 7 October 2020 20:56 (five years ago)

you'll understand when you don't have to shit little brown studs even once during the whole game bc you know they are wizards

bogo jumbo boba (Sufjan Grafton), Wednesday, 7 October 2020 20:58 (five years ago)

i'll likely be picking up Pikmin 3 Deluxe (a port of the 2013 Wii U game), as I've never played any Pikmin before. i'm pretty excited, i've always wanted to give it a shot

president of my cat (Karl Malone), Thursday, 8 October 2020 15:33 (five years ago)

Yeah, Mario 35 is great - I can't get better than third though.

Bidh boladh a' mhairbh de 'n láimh fhalaimh (dowd), Thursday, 8 October 2020 15:38 (five years ago)

I've never played Pikmin either, all I know is that when I play my kids in Smash Brothers they make me play as the Pikmin guy as a handicap.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 8 October 2020 16:06 (five years ago)

ryukahr's Mario 35 streams are wonderful

bogo jumbo boba (Sufjan Grafton), Thursday, 8 October 2020 16:22 (five years ago)

i'm also tempted by pikmin via smash brothers induced curiosity

bogo jumbo boba (Sufjan Grafton), Thursday, 8 October 2020 16:23 (five years ago)

lol i've been watching some of CarlSagan42's Mario 35 streams but haven't watched ryukahr's yet. i've gone full geek during quarantine

trapped out the barndo (crüt), Thursday, 8 October 2020 16:39 (five years ago)

CarlSagan42 is the most reddit ass username i've ever seen

ciderpress, Thursday, 8 October 2020 16:51 (five years ago)

yeah, it's hard to be competitive unless you are willing to make it your religion

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Thursday, 8 October 2020 18:20 (five years ago)

I got a 2nd! I'm fine as long as I don't think about what my hands are doing.

Bidh boladh a' mhairbh de 'n láimh fhalaimh (dowd), Thursday, 8 October 2020 18:46 (five years ago)

Okay, I won one and can now stop.

Horace getting good reviews. Anyone tried it?

groovypanda, Wednesday, 21 October 2020 06:58 (five years ago)

Looks like a cute little story-driven retro platformer.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 21 October 2020 15:36 (five years ago)

it looked like a game for redditors

ciderpress, Wednesday, 21 October 2020 15:37 (five years ago)

CarlSagan42 would love it

ciderpress, Wednesday, 21 October 2020 15:37 (five years ago)

How about "I Am Dead"? Almost pulled the trigger but stopped short because i remember i always want to like story games and then never do.

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Wednesday, 21 October 2020 15:49 (five years ago)

This looks great, internet 1.0 aesthetic: https://www.pcgamer.com/hypnospace-outlaw-review/

(lol I tried watching some CarlSagan42 videos, but he seemed a little too much like a smug gamer dude compared to ryukahr's buoyant positivity)

change display name (Jordan), Thursday, 22 October 2020 15:36 (five years ago)

hypnospace was my 2019 goty, its good

ciderpress, Thursday, 22 October 2020 15:45 (five years ago)

i was just trying to remember the name of that game. thanks

https://www.usgamer.net/articles/the-first-fire-emblem-is-coming-to-nintendo-switch-this-december

I'll probably buy this just to support these kinds of efforts. That said, I think I missed it the "last time" it was around, when they remade it for DS as Shadow Dragon.

Nhex, Thursday, 22 October 2020 19:11 (five years ago)

yeah weird that they're doing the original of a game that got a remake but i guess its easier to romhack a translation into a nes emulated game than restructure a ds game to work on the switch

ciderpress, Thursday, 22 October 2020 21:25 (five years ago)

also i refuse to buy anything with a limited time release just out of principle. its such a weird tactic on their part that's burning through so much goodwill for seemingly no reason

ciderpress, Thursday, 22 October 2020 21:28 (five years ago)

i agree that this Disney Vault-style time release stuff is completely bullshit

Nhex, Thursday, 22 October 2020 21:46 (five years ago)

(lol I tried watching some CarlSagan42 videos, but he seemed a little too much like a smug gamer dude compared to ryukahr's buoyant positivity)

My apologies, I need to issue a correct. I have not watched CarlSagan42, but instead was thinking of "Thabeast721".

demo of the Zelda Musou up on the eshop
also No More Heroes 1 & 2
also streaming versions of Hitman & Control wtf?

( X '____' )/ (zappi), Wednesday, 28 October 2020 14:32 (five years ago)

Cloud versions are weird but yeah I was like no way Switch can run that game

Guess I'll finally get to play the NMH games, never had a Wii

Nhex, Wednesday, 28 October 2020 14:57 (five years ago)

two weeks pass...

This game rules get it

The Switch version of Towerfall (the classic archery party game from the creators of Celeste!) includes new gameplay variants, six-player battles in widescreen levels, and guest archers Madeline & Badeline — who are featured in the CE trading cards. 💜 @exok_games https://t.co/0RwC78PksT

i only like odyssey and botw are there any other good games, i dont like talking to villagers

lag∞n, Friday, 13 November 2020 15:51 (five years ago)

I've read the technical explanations for why Towerfall can only be local rather than online multiplayer, but it's still a damn shame that it can't be online. I bought it (on PC) and had a blast the last time I had people over to visit, but that can't really happen right now.

Dan I., Friday, 13 November 2020 16:05 (five years ago)

It is super low-latency or something?

Nhex, Friday, 13 November 2020 16:06 (five years ago)

In fairness it's extremely time/labor/money consuming to implement rollback netcode which is only in just recent years getting some mainstream recognition

Nhex, Friday, 13 November 2020 16:10 (five years ago)

xp instagram ads finally convinced me to pick up

~Cadence of Hyrule~

it's an interesting game, and having a decent sense of rhythm and cadence, i am awful at it. (not because i'm moving off the beat, but because it's just dang hard sometimes)

@oneposter(✔️) (Karl Malone), Friday, 13 November 2020 16:35 (five years ago)

@lagoon I’ve killed a ton of hours on the Burnout Paradise remaster.

DJI, Friday, 13 November 2020 16:40 (five years ago)

Here's the explanation I saw about Towerfall: https://www.polygon.com/2014/3/11/5491146/why-you-dont-want-an-online-mode-towerfall

xp Dan I - I will never trust Bennett Foddy, the man who created Getting Over It, to tell me anything lol

Also there have been some big strides in netcode (at least for 1v1 fighting games, which I feel would be applicable here) even in the time since that article was written in 2014. Parsec alone gives pretty surprising results, and people are already using that for Towerfall

Nhex, Friday, 13 November 2020 18:00 (five years ago)

haha wow, Bennett Foddy wrote that article!? I had no idea

Dan I., Friday, 13 November 2020 18:04 (five years ago)

I actually agree with him that online can't really replicate the classic online home/arcade experience of playing with others in the same room, and I get that there are many indie developers who focus on that aspect. All power to them! I've been involved with local gaming scenes, and it's tough, but it does still exist, somewhat

But most people play games online these days, and especially in this moment, 2020, any multiplayer game needs to get it together imo

Nhex, Friday, 13 November 2020 18:12 (five years ago)

But most people play games online these days

Most people play games on their phone, dude.
